What would you do if...

What would you do with your GI Joes (or Star Wars, Transformers, etc.) if Hasbro has a similar recall to Mattel (16 million toys and counting)?

In many cases b/c of Lead paint concerns of products made in China recalls have occurred. If all of the GI Joes in the last 3-5 years (including the 25th Anniversary AND the SDCC Destro's and anything you over paid for on eBay) were recalled, what would you do?

Keep the leadies in their current condition? Return them for a refund? Accept a different, new figure in it's place?

Wow! Good topic!!

I would be reluctant to return all my figures, because I don't trust that Hasbro would replace them. I think they would instead do something stupid like issue credit vouchers that were only good for 90 days at TRU or something stupid like that. Then you would have to go in and buy...NOTHING you wanted. Since I primarily only display my figs and don't actually play with them, I would be cognizant of the fact they were lead paint and be ginger accordingly.

If it were my kids toys, I would get them replaced instantly.

I am in a similar situation. I pretty much just display them or customize them and then display them but I often way overpay for hard to find items and customs on eBay. I think I would cry if I had to replace them and at this point from the Army Building alone I have way too many figures from the last 5 years. I will say this, if there is Lead in them it is a wonder I am not dead by now from the thousands on shelves in my basement. Even Superman couldn't see into my basement at this point there would be so much lead.

I wonder how much it would decimate the value of some peoples collections? If you army build and this were to happen, who would buy your lead paint ridden collection? BTW, what does eBay do about such things? The sheer number of recalled toys on eBay must be astounding.

Some idjits would actually be using this as a selling point!

So what is the actual harm? I mean we all know lead is bad for you but really unless chew on your figures, is it really that big of a deal?

I can see how you might be in danger if you do a lot of customizing. You do a lot of sanding when you do that so i can see how breathing in the paint dust would be bad. But for the most part i think the toys just sit on the shelves or maybe like me you might pull htem down and fiddle with them from time to time. So is it really that big of a deal? I don't think I would do ANYTHING.

Exactly, people have been collecting lead soldiers for decades, it's not a big deal. I certainly wouldn't return anything, I'd probably try and buy up more if I knew they were getting recalled.

I am going to be buried with my toys anyway so if they kill me it will just happen sooner.

Can this lead really hurt you unless you swallow it? I'd figure small doses might not be that harmful to adults either.

What if the toys are still packaged, are they harmless then?

On 2nd thought I would make a 75ft action figure mold, die in it, get my wife to melt all my lead based joes down and pour them in the mold. Id return to life as a 75ft gijoe monster. I'd have swivel arm battle grip and a hole in my back for snap on accessories....oh and since I'm made of 99.9%lead I'd be unstoppable. Until someone idiot savant figured out that they could just unscrew the screw from my back. But Id have a hell of a run until that day.
