2003 Hiss Driver - Unproduced Wal Mart Exclusive - Profiled!

Time has made the profiles about a monthly thing these days. But, if I'm only going to showcase one figure per month, it better be a good one. So, this month's profile is the Unproduced Wal Mart Hiss Driver from 2003. I've never cared for the Hiss Driver mold but after I got one of these, I had to get a few more. The figure is that good and is easily the best version of the Hiss Driver out there. It's just too bad he's not more widely available.

Man, I forgot all about those Wal Mart figures. I agree, although the original Hiss Driver has nostalgia behind it, that version does look much better than the red and black of the original.

that is one of the figures I REALLY wish i had....that and the red/black viper. I'm sure you dont want to reveal where you get them from, but if you have any for sale or if anyone knows someone who has these please lmk.

i actually always loved the hiss driver mold...i army build the originals but havent had the chance to pick up any rip-its

Those ARE nice looking figures. I didn't bother paying attention to those exclusives since they were mentioned and just as quickly dumped.

That HISS driver is okay, but I couldn't help noticing that the blue is lighter than the blue used on the standard Cobra troopers also seen in the photos. It probably would've looked better if it was that same "Cobra Uniform Blue". As it is, it reminds me more of the blue used on the helmeted Cobra Commander.

 

But, I also think that what would've been much, much cooler than that repainted HISS Driver, would be a HISS Driver based on Hasbro's original HISS design artwork. For the benefit of those that have not yet seen the artwork I'm referring to, here it is, for your viewing enjoyment:

 

 

Imagine a HISS Driver figure based on that! I guess you could say it would be the G.I.*Joe equivalent of the (extremely popular and hard to find) Star Wars figures based on Ralph McQuarie's original design art for the movies!

 

So yeah, I think the HISS Driver would be about 10 times cooler clad in all black!

 

Of course, the beauty of it all these days is that it isn't too terribly difficult to repaint a HISS Driver to give him a custom paint job of your choosing!

I love that figure. I bid on it on ebay and had it swiped from me. Now I know who got it. At least its in good hands, good review.
