Official Movie talk for those who HAVE seen it. SPOILERS GALORE

Jazz has a black voice, is named after black music, there's no way you can say his character wasnt't based on african americans, robot or not. Too say Jazz has no race would be like saying a transformer with a star of david symbol where the autobot symbol should be wouldn't be jewish. Or the entire cast of Transformers: Cybertron weren't Australian.

Transformers isn't a documentary, it is a movie made by human beings using human culture.

And up until the 90's when it became cliche and racist, the black man was always the first to die in movies, so to kill Jazz is a step back to racism. I understand that a non racist white person may not understand that the color of the skin of the person dying makes any different, because we're all people, but racism still exists, and the people who make decisions to kill off black characters first in the movies know exactly what they are doing, and it's wrong.

R.I.P. Jazz 1984-2007.

My hero!

Actually I read that Bay didn't like the solstice because it was too small. I think that's probably the main reasoning. Besides of the cast only iron hide was expendable, but even he had fire power and such.

Ratchet - medic, very much needed

Prime - 1986. nuff said

Bumblebee - has become like the poster child for this movie

Ironhide - has fire power and was being used in another scene

Jazz - small, no personality (thanks bay), stereotypical... he himself was bordering on racist. In retrospect I'm sort of glad they killed him off, he was a mockery of g1 Jazz -- the coolest tf ever.

So I doubt there were any racist undertones from his death, and with all the decepticons dying they had to kill an autobot. Still if anyone thinks Jazz isn't black that's total bs.

Or the entire cast of Transformers: Cybertron weren't Australian..... comedy gold man.

Hi!

Saw it yesterday.

There was one thing I didn't understand. The All spark is the fountain of life right? Why the hell did it kill Megatron? I thought the All spark can be destroyed only if it's fused with the Matrix wich was in Optimus' chest. So why was it destroyed by Megatron?

I'm not sure that was the matrix in prime's chest, just his spark. I think the idea was that if the two (spark and allspark) came into contact all that power would somehow destroy the allspark along w/ the tf, kinda like the "spark mingling" was thought to kill tf's in bw.

Well Ironhide literally WAS black and he didn't die. Nothing in his personality or voice distinguished him as being of any particular race. So in that case seeing he is black you can say that there was a black bot that lived. :P

For the record, that kind talk is pure sillyness. THEY'RE FRICKIN ROBOTS!!! @smilepunch@

Jazz was offed cuz he was the smallest and apparently easiest to kill autobot. Besides, HE'S A FRICKIN ROBOT!!! They'll find a way to bring him back in a sequel. :D

Tis true... kind of pointless, and the whole scenes with John Turturro were ridiculous. He got on my nerves.... and the undershirt and boxers was pointless. Why did they had him take off his clothes? That was weird.

Don't forget that bb peed on him which was just weird :S worth a laugh but still a wtf moment @loll@

Oh...wait...

@loll@

@loll@

Okay...I'm cool now...

@loll@

Anyways...do you really think the directors/writers/producers of this movie made the concious decision to kill Jazz because he's a "black" transformer?

Someone call Al Sharpton. @hmmm@

Please...

If it were me, I'd kill Jazz just to piss off all the TF fanboys, and to cause an uproar.

Truthfully, when Jazz was introduced, I moaned a little inside, because they were playing him up as the typical inner-city moron...white, mexican, black...whatever. It's an insult to anyone who was watching this movie who has an education higher than the sixth grade, irregardless of race.

If I recall correctly, Prime said the power of the Allspark was too much for his own spark/body to contain. Merging the two was enough to destroy both.

The Matrix wasn't in the movie.

We're already there, my friend, were already there.

Yes, I believe racism still exists (unfortunately).

What also exist is people READING TOO MUCH INTO THINGS.

"Killing Jazz is a step back to racism"??????????? I'll never buy that. Heck, Jazz could have been played by an African American actor instead of a CGI robot and I STILL wouldn't buy it! (Key words there were CGI ROBOT).

I can see how he was a stereotype to an extent, but how was he a moron? His pleading w/ prime to help bumblebee helped show his character..and speaking of "education", "irregardless" isn't a real word (sorry, english major pet peeve :P ).

This topic is the perfect example of how almost anything could be construyed as "racist" if you want it to be and if you are willing to go to ridiculous lengths to find "reasons" why something is. There have been numerous reasons stated for possible reasons why Jazz was killed off. But some only choose to believe it is because he was "black", because they want to find some racism there. It's actually really pathetic.

Ok...what if you have a horror movie where the first person killed is a white kid who talks and acts like he or she is black. Is that the same thing???

Hell, I think most people (even black) would actually WANT to see that person killed first!

I've seen and even known a few white people who talked like they were black, or hispanic or something so did that mean they were? NO. They simply look like idiots.

Well, same thing here. We're not talking about a person, we're talking about the persona. It's not "I act like, therefore I am!" I can put a dollar in a jukebox and play a Prince song, that doesn't mean the jukebox IS prince.

Jazz is a FRICKIN ROBOT!!!! If he wanted to he could have sounded like Pee-Wee Herman!!! BECAUSE HE'S A FRICKIN ROBOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I have seen this on other boards today

Because he is voiced by a black man doesn't mean he is black

Remember Golaith from Gargoyles

Yes comparing golaith to a black person is just out right silly!! Hes clearly PURPLE! POWER TO THE PURPLE GARGOYLES PEOPLE!!

hey Darth Vader was a white guy being voiced by a black guy!

Jazz was lame, i hated the solstic anyway, it was sad seeing any of the bots die so easly, but if it had to be someone, let it be jazz, he seemed to never listen anyways, always complaining about bumblebee.

Rachet told Jazz to fall back, and Jazz didnt, decided to go after Megs, and got killed, its what happens when you dont listen to your C.O.'s

Ah...but it is a real word.

It's just the nonstandard, often times unaccepted, form of regardless.

I bet if you look in a dictionary, it's in there. ;)

Yea, I meant "not a real word" as in nonstandard, as it's a double-negative. Being an english teacher/major, it just sounds goofy/redundant to me; not a big deal, just a peculiarity of mine. ;)

One thing I wish we would have seen, and I think it would have been CLASSIC! Is if when the power leaked out of the allspark and started bringing things to life if it would have gotten a few of those furbies from the blown up furby truck and turned them into some psychotic little KREMZEEK looking bots.

C'mon...how could they have not thought of that?!?!?!?

Because it would seriously freak out all the little sisters in the theatre?

Perhaps it would cause an uproar on the Furby-boards?

But most likely, the TF fandom couldn't handle the payback to be done to TF if they ever make a real life Furby-movie :D

Saw the movie last week at the Arclight on sunet. Easily one of the best movies I've ever seen. Plus I got to see the autobots in person! Well at least in their vehicle modes, which they had on display.

As for the "black bot" getting killed; if it makes any difference scorponok killed the white guy instead of Tyrese. And does anyone know where I can get that air freshener Bumblebee had when he was a classic Camaro?

Here ya go:

The real thing, not the promotional "Transformers" tie-in version that's being sold at a premium at some outlets.
