Con Check-In

Recommended Posts

I woke up this morning with this feeling like I was missing something.....oh yeah, I remember now.....I AM MISSING THE NORMAL TIME OF THE CON (thanks to TF)!!

We've done the "Who's going to the con thread already", so now it is time for the official check in. Since apps are out now, who has filled their out? Who has sent theirs in? Who has made hotel reservations? This would also be a good time to ask the group questions like, "Who has found any good flight deals?" or "Who needs a roommate?", etc, etc.

I know a good number of us have been before will more than likely be getting together for some meals and adult beverage consumption. So if this is your first trip or if you missed out on some of the infamous debauchery from last year, by all means, JOIN IN!! :)

The secret to the con-going experience is not just to share the hobby with other collectors, but it is to make new friends outside of the board and just have a good time. If you go just for the figures and the dealer room.....well, you will just spend a ton of cash and not have as nearly as good time as you could have. The phrase "What happens at the con, stays at the con" originated here!!

So....let's do this!!

I'll sewcond that. I want to go (since I live in Atlanta anyway) but I have no idea where to begin. Can someone lay out the procedure for those of us that are totally clueless? Thanks!

I'm good, i'm down, and I heard G-Money was gonna make a appearance, so he's buying me rounds of JagerBombs.

G$!? I have no idea who that is. @rolleye@ #party# @drink@

First, go here and print off the Attendee PDF:

http://www.mastercollector.com/neat/gijoe/atlanta/index.cfm

Next, fill out the app. There is a member and non-member price if you want the package. A GIJCC membership is $36/yr. The cost difference between a GIJCC member and non-member for the convention package is $50, so if get the membership and purchase your con package, you save a whopping $14. I chalk that under the "BETTER THAN NOTHING" catagory. There is always a special vehicle included with your figures. The very first con set was a Red HISS tank. I got the at-home package that year and missed out on the tank. What I paid to get that fully justified going to the con instead.

Next, call the ATL Marriott Marquis and reserve a room. Be sure to tell them that you will be there for the con, so you get the $129 per night rate.

Now all you have to do is worry about how to get there. ATL is Delta's main hub, so you may get your best rate on that airline. I expect there is a shuttle service from ATL to the Marriott.

Last is to hook up with SKARAPZ because he is buying the second round of J-Bombs!

Do not forget to budget in for the other con exclusives via the GIJCC store (ie Destro figs this year, Slaughter fig last year, etc). Always around $400 or so. Total weekend out-lay from door to door should be $1500 or so.

Since you live in ATL, first off, the party is at your place. Secondly, you don't have to worry about the hotel, just parking downtown.

There is walk-up admittance to the convention and dealer room. I do not remember how much that is. The con sets are sold all weekend. You do not need to be a member of the club, but if you are, everything is just a little bit cheaper.

I hope this helps you both. See you there! Keep the thread alive guys!

Thanks for the help!!!

I'll probably be staying at a different hotel with my brother to save some $$$. $1500....thats a lot of dough. Also, i really hope that the con exclusives are good this year... its pretty easy to f*&% up female troopers.

at least this year i'll have some time to start saving.

NP Sab. The $1500 is a roughly based high estimate for flight ($300), Transportation ($40), Hotel ($129 x 3 + taxes = $430), Con Set ($270), Con Store Exclusives ($400), Food & Drink ($40 x 8 meals = $230), and whatever you to take for spending money. You can save on a flight for sure or use miles if you have them. On the hotel, you can save for sure if you use points, shop around or find a roommate. And of course, if you are a light eater, you can cut that food number down too. So there are plenty of ways to save.

Hey man, I look forward toward seeing you there!

Cool man, definitely! I feel like i'm definitely going to buy a lot of stuff from dealers, so i want to save as much $$ as possible. I'll probably get all the exclusives, but i didnt know that the con store exclusives are $400! Are these like the driver three packs and mini vehicles and stuff???

At least i dont have to worry about drinks... i dont drink at all and i dont need to go to any fancy restaurants or anything.

I just hope my brother still goes with me after he sees the bill!

Yeah, $400 is for all of the extras like the Warthog, Carded Slaughter fig, Carded Maurader 3-pack, etc, etc from last year. Again, it is a high estimate, but if you budget that number, you will be ok. I found the prices that JayC posted last year:

3 3/4" Renegades 3 Pack, Souvenir set LE 1000 $50

3 3/4" Sgt. Slaughter, Souvenir LE 1000 $25

3 3/4" WARTHOG APV LE600 $48

3 3/4" Ferret ATV 2-pack, LE800 with decal sheet and directions $25

This only totals just under $150. In the past we also had the Moray which was $75, but that was the highest single item price that I can remember. So I stand corrected, $400 is a bit high. $300 is the top end. I asked the bank (aka wife) the highest I spent and she said $275. The bank is always right..... :)

I haven't mailed the forms in yet, but my fiancee and i have already paid for the flights and the hotel room. To save about $300, we got rooms at the Days Inn, which is about a half mile from the Marriot. Like I said, it was $300 cheaper even after we added a rental car, since Days Inn doesn't have a shuttle.

I tend to be a little dense sometimes and just to double.. double check. I only live maybe 30-45 min from there so I won't need the travel/room etc. Do I have to fill out that form or can I just waltz up to the front door that weekend, pay, and slide on in? And do I need to fill out the form for a convention exclusive or can I just buy it there? Treat me like I'm 5. Explain it slowly and with tiny words preferably. :D

The Airport has city shuttles. Check out the ATL Airport webpage.

If I remember, people who submit the registration forms and pay in full are guaranteed sets. If you do not fill out the form, I think it is first come, first served. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

See above. Be sure to find us. SKARAPZ is the tall ugly one.

Well I got my hotel room, form has been submitted so I will see everyone there. It is going to be another awesome con!

Awesome! Year 5 in a row bro! Dude, is the fam coming again?

So it appears there's four of us staying in the two hotel rooms I have booked. If we don't get one, or two more people, I'll drop it down to one on the reservation...

Are you counting Card? You can always transfer to me if you want.
