ML: Aesthetic vs. Articulation

I pick aesthetic value over POA just because I like cool looking figures.

Right now I'm fine with Hasbro's Banshee/Quicksilver sculpt and its amount of POA.

 

Don't need to get crazy with POA because then they're more points for the figure to break at.

If I want aesthetics, I'll but statues.

However, I want toys, and toys need articulation.

Toys are meant to be played with. Statues are meant to be looked at.

ToyBiz's Marvel Legend's product had superb articualtion, but without loosing a lot of it's aesthetics.

Which, made a great looking toy.

I keep seeing the distinction of either a 'Statue-esque toy' or 'Toy Biz's Marvel Legends' in this arguments. Wanting aesthetics isn't asking for McFarland type figures. Its just saying some of the joints are necessary and tend to leave a character much harder to pose. Finger articulation is not a big deal for me ESPECIALLY with characters like Elektra, Deadpool, Punisher, etc.. who hold weaponry. They can hold it with the fully articulated hands, but often times I find it difficult to get Deadie to hold his swords in a good looking stance or Elektra to hold her sai's. Firearms are a bit easier because normally the index finger is made to lock into place in the trigger.

 

Maybe Hasbro shouldn't have said aesthetics. In fact, most of us arguing against heavy POA aren't arguing we -need- more pleasing images. We are griping that at least a few of the Toy Biz figures had loose joints. I also prefer Toy Biz's late in the line and Hasbro's joints. Where you can hear them click as they are turned.

It is a load of BS when Hasbro takes us back to the 90's with the 5" Action Figures and charge us more than the ToyBiz Marvel Legends with no extras like comic reprints, minimal paint and non-existent washes, mediocre sculpts, less articulation, inconsistent availability and BAFs that are smaller in comparison to their predecessors. Hasbro needs to take some pointers from ToyBiz!

Also, I think there is so much dislike for Hasbro, that even if they had said aesthetic over articulation, the same people would be arguing against them.

 

Besides, since when does someone buy a figure JUST because it's articulated. I mean seriously. Doesn't anyone buy MLs for the characters anymore? People liked the Toybiz articulation and sculpt, but the root factor that kept everyone buying was the characters they made. Who cares if they don't have a double hinged elbow, or individual articulated fingers. If it's a character you like, get it. If it's not, then don't. Simple as that.

I think you hit it home. When Toy Biz was pushing out toys this forum was littered with angry posts about loose joints, sloppy paint apps, horrible 'new' types of joints, etc.. Now Hasbro has the ball in their court and there is a new scape goat.

Paint job is something I can "fix", articulations aren't!!! The Hasbro sculpts are fine IMO, I just don't like their style of articulations on some of the figures...
