The Legends we DON'T want...

OK.

 

Instead of talking about the LEGENDS we really, really want...let's take a different approach today.

 

Let's think of the LEGENDS we don't ever want to see, or have no interest in, BUT are convinced will appear in future waves for whatever reason.

 

Nothing is out-of-bounds. If you have reason to believe that HASBRO will reissue the TOAD from the X-MEN Movie Figs: Wave 1, then say so!

 

But...don't just say it. Back it up with some explanation. That way, if your prediction come true, you'll look like a genius...and we'll all pay homage to you...

 

Here's my 1st prediction: (hmmmm...this is actually harder than I thought...)

 

1. Ultimate Cyclops (in the Frank Quitely/Grant Morrison costume, NOT the one in HML 3).

 

Reason: We have a Xorn. We have a maskless Daredevil head. Customizers are all over this idea. I think it will probably happen...and I have no interest in it.

Ronin - Don't want him, as far as I'm concerned he's not a legend, just some new character that was suddenly thrown in and has made little to no impact on the marvel universe (if this has changed in the past 2 months, forgive me as I'm a little behind on my comics) Why I think he'll be made is that the character is getting a lot of hype from the creators and from marvel itself. I personally don't see this hype reflected in the fans - much like with X23, and they made a figure out of her.

-Quasar- you know it is going to happen. He's going to appear in wave 7 hehe

-Beak- he's got an entry in the new Marvel Encyclopaedia they may just do him.

-Blastaar- When all else fails, include a villian that has not been used in a while.

-Cassandra Nova- She will appear in the same wave as Beak. She will come with a re-used "wild" sentinel from TB days

Ultimate Universe - For me, the term legend refers to the characters from the true marvel universe. I don't want any more ultimate characters.

I just don't want any extremely obscure characters that made maybe one not-so-memorable appearance, or they're just extremely minor characters.

There are certain characters that deserve to be here and ones that don't. I don't mind the movie ones. But people like Xorn and Ult. Wolverine are just to new.I think we need more old and memorable people.

Thing is, some of those very minor characters end up being kinda cool for what they are.

Sure, characters like Razorback, Aquarian, Angar the Screamer, Space Phantom and others would make for dopey figures, but others like Sunturion, Caliber and the Master would be very neat to have as toys.

Characters like Le Peregrine or Sabra might have had only a couple of appearances, if that, but they LOOK pretty neat and that is really a prime requisite for a toy.

 

I'm pretty sure that all those I've listed are pretty obscure, but obscurity is relative. Some fans have only been reading comics for a couple of years, some for decades. For example, I'd get pretty tired of seeing nothing but characters from the Jim Lee era on up until today--mostly because I was more interested in comics BEFORE his arrival on the scene. Likewise, a younger collector might grump and #$#@# about any character done before 1990, simply because they don't know them.

truth be told i don't mind what they bring out once it fills up my marvel universe. okay so characters like some of the x-mansion student will never be made but im glad with that as they change so often it hard to tell whose attending that frigging school.

 

also dont forget that even when tb was in charge they brought out some of the most unexpected characters like the FFC impossible man and ml's doop pack-ins who are both very minor and forgetable characters but people wanted them to complete the marvel universe. that just my opinion anyway

The line is called MARVEL LEGENDS.

 

Ultimate characters are not legendary.

 

They are pale distortions of the original characters.

 

The original Marvel characters are legendary.

The thing is, I'm almost certain we're going to keep getting Ultimate and Movie Legends figures. Why? Character recognition. People tend to buy more figures when they're of characters they're really familiar with and like, such as Spiderman, Wolverine, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, etc... They tend to sell much better than say, an X-Men villain that appeared in one story years ago. However, most of those big characters have already had their primary costumes/looks done as Legends and remakes of the same costume might not sell well to people who have the original figure. The solution? Alternate costumes. As long as people keep liking the big-name characters, they'll keep pulling new versions of those characters from any comic, movie, or whatever that has done a unique version of them. And like it or not, the movie versions in particular are how much of the general public now pictures those characters so they tend to be the ones chosen. Plus, I think the Ultimate line of comics is picking up a fair amount of readership among younger Marvel fans simply because there is less back story, making it easier to get in to.

IMO, no more Ultimates or Movie Figures...Ultimate Iron Man was the only one I have interest in. Movie figures should stay in their own lines.

If what I here is true with the upcoming waves, the character selection is gonna be quite nice. You have 8 to 9 figures a wave with the build a figure. 3 classic figures from traditional marvel, 90's or before. 3 Modern figures 00's to current. 2-3 Movie figures.
