uhh... 15 plus the ten figures in the battle packs equals 25 ;)

not understanding why buzzer, would be in the first wave of figures. if they were initially only planning to make 25 figures (like they said at first but now its obvious the line will continue for a bit) you'd think that they'd include a more iconic character or a leader type figure. i mean there are so many lead cobra characters that would make more sense to me. like major blood, or even a single carded golden destro. why not just release the 3 original dreadknocks in the next wave? but w/e i guess. it still looks good to me considering we'll be getting a sinlge carded trooper. woo. i would have liked to have another army builder figure in there somewhere too. hope we see a bat in the near future!

15 characters is a stretch? @hmmm@

They planned on 25 right from the start...correct?

U sure?

Links plz?

Quotes plz?

From everything I had read, it was assumed on the part of the fanbase that there were 25 for the 25th.

Pay particular attention to the line that states..

Now, twenty-five years later, Hasbro will commemorate the anniversary with the release of a special edition series of A REAL AMERICAN HERO figures that features the twenty-five most popular characters in the history of the line.

That's where I got my info from anyway. Not out of thin air. ;)

Oh, and just for the record, I knew I was going in with my statement on shaky ground. All I'm saying is I haven't seen anything official from anyone employed by Hasbro that says they planned a hard "25 for 25" from the beginning.

But then I haven't read all the Q&As, nor have I been to any official sites or anything. All I'm holding is a pair of fours. . .and I call.

More images added thanks to Carabus.

Thanks!

Noticed some weird stuff... Flint's now an E-6, and Cobra Officers are listed as E-4 or equivalent? Bad mistakes, tsk tsk...

Yeah, I'm thinking that really is what the final figures are going to look like.

So I'm canceling my Flint preorder. Had enough of this "last minute" switch business.

Well, you could always say that he was an E-6 before becoming a warrent officer, which is by no means a realistic stretch. It happens all the time in the Army. And why can't the Cobra Army go by regular Army rank structure? It would make their life much easier than trying to come up with a whole new Cobra Ranking. I think these are very minor 'mistakes' and can easily be explained away with even a little bit of imagination.

But then there's the pesky second Cobra Battlepack revealed shortly before or after that statement was released, which many assumed (rather loadly) that it was part of the 25th and we were getting screwed by half the selection being repaints or minor retools. But here we have card art images for another 10 potential figures.

The fact at the end of the day is that WE DON'T KNOW what timetable Hasbro had to work with, we don't know the financials involved, and we don't know any of the internal decisions made in regards to WHEN figures started being made. Shipwreck is likely coming in wave 3, which means they MAY have had more time than with Flint. Either way, it is a moot point to argue, moreover, why complain about Shipwreck getting short sleeves when stylistically they are much more different than Flint's, so why get all worked up about using a pair of arms that don't belong?

Just to clarifie, the text in the story that link is to comes straight from Hasbro, it doesn't get any more official then that.

Um, did anyone look at PD Destro's filecard? They got his name wrong. Its James McCullen, they put James McMullen. This is not an auspicious start for Hasbro. The figures look good, but they need someone to really put in the time/research for the file cards, like Hama back in the day.

Oh, come on now... These are obviously mistakes. First off, it says "WARRANT OFFICER" in huge letters right over Flint's name. As for the Cobra Officer, I think you missed my point - the original filecard has them as O-4 (or equivalent)... you know, OFFICERS. The new ones are obviously typos, because as E-4s they're little more than an experienced grunts (E-4s are corporals).

Yeah, it's not like these details would be anything to keep my from buying the toys, but I'd probably be annoyed if I was a MOC collector. It's still lame though. It's not like they even have to do RESEARCH - they're just copying the original filecards, for eff's sake!

That's kinda where I'm at, too. I won't pass on any of these because of the silly errors. But, if you're in charge or even just working on a multi-million dollar line with a 40+ year history, you should take some pride and/or responsibility in making sure you know what you're talking about. Hell, they could hire one nerd(i.e. me) to be in charge of stuff like that and it wouldn't happen, I know there have to be people in product development that are big Joe fans, let them take a look at everything before it goes to print.

Forgot they put that Warrant Officer on the front. Oops. So I guess it would be a bit of a stretch to make him an E-6 before becoming the warrant, when he's already listed as one.

As for the Cobra Officers, for some reason, I got it in my head that we were talking about the Cobra Soldiers. You're right, officer ranks are with the O's, and the enlisted guys are with the E's. Again, an oversight on my part. Sorry.

So, yeah, these mistakes are a bit dumb, and unresearched. Sounds like the typical workers of today. Find a quick and lazy way to do something. Oh well. I like reading over filecards, but they've never been a major selling point to me. Back when I was a kid, the filecards always ended up in the trash, no matter how much I tried to keep them filed away somewhere. And nowadays, they all get thrown into a nice little box after I open stuff. SO, these errors won't bother me if I decide to pick these up.

What does bother me is the obvious size difference. These figures are bigger than the JvC BATs, and that's no small feat. They've got to be pretty big. But, I guess I'll just have to keep them separate from the others, except maybe MAJ Barrage, who won't look so intimidating now that guys like Flint are going to be the same size as him.

I would say its a little reference to the screw up in 97 when the original PDD was to be released.

kinda neat reference if you ask me.

Someone mentioned earlier in this thread something about changing sculpts to match the card art, or changing card art to match the sculpts, or something else similar to this. I think they were making a point about Hasbro trying to make the new sculpts match the art. Anyway, the point I'm getting at is the sculpts don't match the art, not if the second Storm Shadow is any indication. Of course, this could be because the second Storm Shadow is just a repaint of the resculpted first Storm Shadow (seems to be that way except for the obvious head swap). Unless they're going to change the second SS from what they've shown, his forearms will not match his art, nor will his coloring.

If this is the case with some figures (matching the art for some, not matching for other repaints/reused sculpts), it's difficult to guess who will be accurate to their card art and who will vary slightly. So Flint and Shipwreck might share parts, and therefore might be inaccurate to what they're supposed to look like. Long story short, original sculpts should match the art, figures with reused parts might not.

And it's my bad if someone already said all this, or if this is not news to anyone. These figures are so sweet I just had to say something about them.

Storm Shadow, 1st version

Storm Shadow, 2nd version

* Edit to say that I'd forgotten, despite realizing it immediately when I first saw the carded 2nd SS figure, but the card art for the 2nd SS is different than the original art. It's been modified to show him with a different bow and different sleeves. The point I wanted to make about this was can we expect more of this with other figures? Or just with other repaints/reused sculpts? So far he's the only one I've noticed that isn't the same art as the original, but Storm Shadow was the only one I truly paid attention to growing up.

I think that shadow/silhouette is definitely Satan, but I'm not convinced we'll actually get a Satan. Though a red ninja would be cool and not totally out of the question (like someone said, they were a part of the comic from fairly early on) I just wonder if they didn't have the original Storm Shadow art anymore (other things were lost from the original figures, why not some art, too?) and used the next best thing. That seems unlikely to me, as they modified the second 25th SS art, so they could easily come up with similar but new art for the first SS (assuming this isn't Satan but rather a reissue SS in a single pack). But who knows. The only thing I'm positive of is that one silhouette is Satan's, whether that's the figure we'll get or not.

Now I'm torn as to whether or not I'm down with this, lol. Is it homage when you make a mistake twice? Too late for this much thinking, lol.

Actually, now that I look at the original Flint's filecard, it lists him as E-6 too. Guess it's the same thing.

The Cobra Officer one on Yojoe though, that still has O-4, not E-4. EDIT: Unless there's a variant I'm unaware of?

V2 Storm Shadow is another one I didn't realize was a repaint... So, if we put them side-by-side, are we to assume that one will have the tattoo and the V1 version won't? Because, they way it's pictured now... The tattoo is above the wrappings on the V2 version, which means it would have been visible on the V1 as well, but it's not (and it shouldn't be). Ugh, that's going to bother me I think... At this point I'm not even that annoyed at the repaints, since they seem to be adamant about using them, but so many problems could have been fixed with different forearms, at least...
