How is the GI JOE secondary market on ebay? Is there any interest in this hobby anymore?

Hi, I was a huge collecter up until last summer. I collected gi joe, star wars, and XD and I built huge armies but now I need to sell everything so that I can buy a used car.

I have a garage full of army builders and was wondering if you guys thought it would be possible to make around $10,000.

I know you guys need to see my collection before being able to make a good assessment of whether or not I can reach my goal, but I dont have a camera and it would take days to set everything up. I will be able to do this eventually, but I work way too much to be able to do that at the moment.

I spent about 15,000-20,000 collecting all of this stuff so I hope there is still some interest in action figures among collectors. I have been shocked at how low some of the auctions have sold for on ebay, but there also arent as many auctions now so maybe there is still some value in these guys. I have a ton of stuff: 6 ATATs, 100s of vehicles, 1000s of figures. Tons and tons of armybuilders.

I also have a lot of Marvel Legends, DC Direct, and Halo figures. Im hoping if the joes/star wars/xd figures can get me 10,000 then these figures can get me at least 2,000. I have almost everything in the last few years.

Anyways thanks for any input. Im getting out of action figures and want to get rid of everything by the end of summer.

ebay is dead right now,

I say that because there is not as many listings as there was a year ago

the only things I see selling are some of the new Star Wars

but with ML's the early waves can still get some bucks

but I dont believe you will be able to pull down the numbers your talking about

Thanks for the reply,

Do you think there arent as many listings on ebay now because noone is interested in buying or is it because everyone wants to hold onto their collections and there is still some value for them.

Im hoping I make at least 5,000-8,000. I have a ton of stuff, but I do realize I would need at least 80 lots that are worth $100 and Im thinking I do.

I hope Spiderman 3 increases the resale value of my ML collection, but honestly these are too cool to sell. They also take up a lot less space than my 1:18 collection. It only occupies several large bins whereas the 1:18 collection takes up more than half a car garage. I gave away a ton of stuff to Toys for Tots and there still is a bunch of stuff here.

Ebay is a funny thing. Sometimes it seems like nothing is selling and other times there is a rush, its weird. Ive personally sold items that went way over what I would ever pay for them while the same item sold for half(ive also sold items for less then the guy next to me). Lots always sell for less then individual pieces, but they take less time to sell. I know I made enough on my auctions to go to con last year, and I only sold extras. If you really want to make it easy open an ebay store for 16 bucks a month(plus like 5 cents an auction) and throw everything on there, then keep around 10-15 auctions active so people see your store.

I've been selling a lot of my stuff through the various boards instead of ebay.. but then again, I've probably been loosing out on money rather than making it.. what I mean is.. just cause I spent $40 on that item 6 years ago.. I did have it sent in my head that I'd get that $40 back.. I never bought any of my toys to turn a profit.. so essentially, I got my moneys worth.. so anything I got from it, was a profit to me...

If you want to sell them by the summer, then naturally, ebay would be the best bet.. where I only made around $400 here and other boards the last couple of months, I'm sure I would have topped $1200 and sold everything on ebay instead of having those few little stinkers that people dont seem interested in on the boards...

If I was you, I'd go through your stuff, and look on ebay, if they seem to be going for money, then list them.. and pictures will really help.. I promise you, you wont make half the money you want if you don't have pictures..

Try to limit some of the stuff you're selling though.. if you have 4 ATATs, dont list all 4 at a time, list one, along with other stuff, then when they sell, list another, and then continue like that... same with certain clones, stormtrooper, or any army builders.. to get your maximum amount of dollars, don't list them all at once.. cause then people aren't gonna want to spend as much cause they'll see how many you have... put yourself in their shoes.. "wow, this guys got 150 clones.. I'll just wait and bid on the last ones, by then, I'm sure they wont sell as high"...

Does that make sense? Anyway, that's all I can think of right now, hope that helps..

yeah ebay has very little action right now, before xmas it was hot, now its dead, and the only stuff thats selling well right now is foreign stuff,

if you have a nice foreign collection you will bank on ebay, but if its army builders or something like that id say you probably wont do will,

but even still im sure you would get what you paid way back when

I usually just sell when my collection takes up too much space or I want something new. Right now i`m thinning out my Transformer Collection (taking up waaaaay too much room) and narrowing down to the figures I really want. Didn`t make any profit by any means but at least it freed up a decent amount of space and allowed me to catch up on my RAH figure collection which takes up almost no space. I have a baby boy on the way and with my twin daughters, the room I had been using for customizing and collections is going away. Now I have no place to customize anymore and about 1/4 of the room for my collections.

That's what I do too. I've basically sold off all my Star Wars stuff (although I'm toying with the idea of collecting the vintage figures), and it's true what you say, a nice bonus with GI Joe is that it doesn't take up all that much space... well, until you start collecting the vehicles, as I've found...

I'm getting rid of a bunch of extra figures on Ebay, just stuff I've gotten in lots and that sort of thing. Too bad the market is slow, but on the other hand maybe I'll be able to catch some great deals on stuff I don't have with the money in my Paypal account...

I actually see a lot of items selling for way more than they should, even common stuff and not just the somewhat more expensive stuff I'm after

I don't know if I'd agree, although I see alot of Ebay sellers (the ones with stores, mostly) TRYING to sell them for way more than they should. People should use the "Best Offer" a lot more often.

Yeah. I agree. Except with some places your best offer'll get shot down instantly. :) For example, Cloud City Collectibles had GREAT prices when they sold their non-AFA stuff... But for anything they got graded, you're definately going to pay their prices, or "ten dollars less" so they still get the listed price after shipping. :)

I disagree. It seems to me stuff is going for way more than I am used to. I have been looking to get something cheap for months and cant. I figured since there has been no new product for sometime, that more people are shopping ebay for vintage joes. Either way, I'm seeing good figures in good condition sell for top dollar repeatedly. I mean heck, Raptor + Crystal Ball going for 13.50 plus 3.50 shipping with OVER a day left? Wow.

Well, the seller "weauctionit" has also put up one of every figure released in the US in the past month too... Someone sold their collection for a pretty penny. :) Finally got myself a Headhunter MOC from 'em too... :-P (And some other stuff, but forget what it was.)

Just wait until I post my auctions. I will take the advice of another poster and offer "best offer" on all my auctions. I have some great stuff and if the offer is reasonable I will accept. I will also post a counter that shows how close I am to my goal. If I reach it I will accept almost any reasonable offer just to get rid of everything.

I have fleets of helicopters, tanks, troop carriers, army builders, and others. Just some of the things I am looking to get rid of: 70+ figures from the TRU cobra soldier/officer set, 125 figures from the night watch set, 12 sets of the crimson sabotage, 50+ green vipers, 12 fuscia vipers, 3 hammerheads, 3 rolling thunders, 80+ greenshirts, and whole lot more.

The vehicles are impressive the army of tanks that support the iron grenadiers could fill a small room, the same goes for almost all of the various armies I built. Not to mention all of the XD buildings and other things I have. I bought these toys w/ the intention of owning a hom and having huge battles in my backyard.

Everything must go, I need an SUV so I can move around and carry my belongings. Get ready for law school. I will miss my joes, but I had a change in plans. Thanks for all the input and advice.

I will have to check it out. Make sure to post a link to it in the wants/trades/sells section at the top of this forum.

So, there will be Crimson Guards to be had, then?

hmmm. Maybe I need to eBay some of my stuff so I can make money to buy your stuff.
