Spidey 3....

Just got back. I think it's the best of the three. More action than the first two. Sandman and Venom looked well-done. A LOT more laughs in this one than in the first two, as well, which was cool. I think some people are not going to like some things, but overall I liked it quite a bit!

Okay...

Saw it last night and I have to say I'm disappointed. It really seems like it was trying to squeeze too much in and not enough respect was paid to anything. Technically, FX wise, it was the best of the 3. Story, it was the worst. Nothing really clicked. It looked like Raimi was just given a list of things that had to be put in the story and he threw it all in and shot a movie but didn't really give any care to any of it. It was like Avi or some came to him and said "Okay, you want to make a Spidey movie with Sandman, fine, but the fans want to see Venom so you HAVE to add him and people complained Gwen hasn't been around so throw her in there and OH Harry needs to be Goblin too and, hmm.... Bad guys can't be bad guys cuz they are bad guys, they really have to be good guys that are misunderstood, and OH, make sure you completely throw ALL continuity out the window and tie Sandman to Ben's murder... and...."

Come on. The first 2 built on each other so well and this one just did the same thing X3 did for me. We'll throw a movie out there with the same name, get the money and lose all respect for the property.

If you've not got tickets, I'd say don't pay more than matinee prices and I'd almost go so far as to say wait for rental. I was really disappointed and not because of incontinuity with the comics as much as the fact that there didn't really seem to be ANY respect in the way it was written. It almost ventured into the "Batman" 60's TV show level of corny in large parts of the movie. Topher as Eddie just completely SUCKED. He did what I was afraid he'd do and just played whiney ass "Eric" through the whole thing then "Eric" with super powers taking it out on Peter. I realize Raimi didn't want to put Venom in but he could have at least done a more respectful job with the character when he did. (BTW, when he is full Venom, FX wise he was really cool).

Anyway, that's just my 2¢ worth.

They should have made the movie longer. With so many characters in it, they need there own time to shine. Hope they make an extended cut. :(

It's already 2 1/2 HOURS LONG!!!! and that was too long for this movie. It should have been 2 movies. 1) Sandman, Gobby Jr. & Spidey finds black costume and goes dark. 2) spidey loses everything due to the suit, escapes the suit and Venom & Spidey face off. AND LEAVE THE CAMPY HUMOR TO BRUCE'S CAMEO!!!!!!!!!

I really really like the movie. My only complaint is the whole "Peter being a badass" thing was way over done, and really annoying after awhile. The whole jazz scene could've been left out.

I was dissapointed, but I liked it alot more than the first. Just not the second which imo is the best of the three.

Now first, the negatives.

Raimi said that he never wanted to have both Octavius and Osbourne in the first movie because they both deserved their own story which could fill a whole film on their own. I liked that; the movies gave all their concentration to the story and development of the characters.

This third one would have been just as great if they had kept it to one villain like the other two. Instead it gave us 4 villains (if you include Symbiote Spidey) and it just gave me the impression that it was struggling with the amount of new characters/personas it had to deal with.

The Sandman was, to me, the main antagonist in this movie, yet ...well, actually no. I'm confused as to who was. The fact that it had 3/4 villains to deal with just sapped the concetration from every one of them.

The Sandman had alot of potential to carry this movie on his own as the 'villain'. I won't give anything away to folks who don't know but his story line could have been taken further I think. At most, I think if they kept to the Sandman then they could have had Harry as a side villain.

Now Venom is a whole different story. This film hyped the crap out of the black suit and when it came to it I don't think alot happened. The obvious hype for me would be that the black suit was leading to something bad. But the film never really gave that 'bad' a chance to show itself. Instead it was more comical. Or at least no where near as bad as it could have been. To me it would have been better to make Symbiote Spidey actually aggressive instead of telling someone to 'get a door fixed' then go staring at women. When I think of aggressive, I think of someone being nasty, not a smarmy ass. Now about a quater of the way into the film it introduces Brock and shows him throughout the movie in a few scenes where he acts much like Symbiote Spidey - smarmy. Suddenly, he gains the black suit and becomes Venom and has murderous intentions. Are his reasons good? Possibly, but the film didn't make me care what happaned to him because all the scenes he had were either comical or were so short it didn't let his character develop enough.

I guess those are the major negatives for me.

Now onto the positives.

The visuals are by far the best in the trilogy. The Sandman's 'birth' was very nice to look at (my god that sounded wrong). The action scenes involving him were also the most epic and impressive in the movie but Harry's were pretty cool too. They were definately the most fast paced and exciting whilst Sandman's were all about the visuals. Venom's, whilst cool, could have been better I think. They were a bit meh and for a film that built up the excitement over the awesome power of the symbiote left me a bit underwhelmed.

The comedy. There was alot more of it in this one (again, strange for the film that looked to be the most brooding of the three). However I'm not really complaining with this one. They were some of the funniest moments out of all three films with the best parts going to Jameson and Bruce Campbell who this time had a cameo in a French restaurant.

Overall, although there were some big negatives for me with this movie, I'd still say it's very watcheable. I'd give it about 6 out of 10 since the action, acting and visuals were pretty good. If only Venom could have been a solo villain in a following movie.

So let me get this straght...Killing Sandman (so he thought at the time) and being happy about it, disfiguring Harry and leaving him to die, beyotch-slapping MJ and ruining Brock's life all while wearing the symbiote isn't "nasty" enough for you?!?! Spidey is as squeaky-clean as they come...what more would you have had him do then the above??? Get real. @hmmm@

The movie was awesome. The scenes that annoyed me the most very small ones. Like the reporter covering the big showdown, I turned to my friend and was like "this is really cheesy". I really disliked the milk and cookies scene in spidey 2 with that girl. I felt it didnt add anything. In this movie their "relationship" is even more odd. The landlord guy is really odd too, and didn't get any laughs in the theater.

The major important stuff was awesome though. Venom was sorta lame and a disappointment. But Sandman was definitely the best villain in any of the movies. Sure he's just the misunderstood nice guy making bad decisions, but his scenes were cool, and Church was AWESOME. I'll never be able to watch wings again. I sure hope he makes an appearance in yet another sequel.

I liked Harry a lot in this movie. Though those pumpkin bombs explosion power seems to vary. It could blow sand man apart, or blow the crap out of you know who, but when thrown at Harry all it does is disfigure his face?

I like the first movie the most, that's just me though. I liked this one more than 2, and although 2 is very highly regarded I don't like it as much for whatever reason. But overall all 3 movies are excellent and definitely what I would use as a benchmark for comic book movies. If all the other comic properties try to outdo the spidey trilogy, the world wouldn't be a better place, but it'd he a hell of a lot more entertaining.

/SPOILERS

I encourage EVERYONE to see it in theaters. DO NOT WAIT FOR A RENTAL. Almost always the main reason to see movies in the theaters is for the special effects. You're not going to want to miss out on all the explosions and sand and everything.

Overall the movie was good not super great but good enough to watch and buy the DVD when it comes out. The two major things that I think should have happened is that Sandman , if he was really sorry should have turned himself in, I mean he killed uncle ben not to mention all the destruction and people he hurt. That whole misunderstood bad guy things was stupid to me. he could have been much more evil and hardcore. Plus after Pete forgives him he just floats away like some fairy @grumpy@ . The other thing was that they should have showed venom survive, cuz I definitively think he should be in the next movie. also I would of like to hear Venom refer to himself as "US". Other than that I think it was good, but thats just me.

Good lord this movie was awesome. I'm crossposting this from somewhere else cuz it's essentially what I want to say here:

This topic is for ME. It's for my own selfish curiosity.

I just got back from the movie and thought it was amazing, the best of the 3. Venom was awesome and so was everyone else including Green Goblin 2 who I thought would be boring.

I was so excited about this movie but my hopes got brought down real fast with all the negative reviews. Maybe that was a good thing. I was so scared I would walk out of the theatre feeling flat (like Pirates 2) or completely losing interest and my love of the franchise (Revenge of the Sith, TMNT) but none of that happened. I loved it. I have to honestly say that anything people didn't like about it is probably an inconsequential nitpick or a problem with a sense of humor. Such as...

My only complaint out of the whole movie was lack of screentime for the black costume Spider-Man.

So please indulge me, what were your "nitpicks" or serious complaints about the movie.

---

Basically, super hyped for this movie, lost all hoped today before seeing it, was blown away.

Excellent

Some spoilers here:

I have to go with the it was ok but not fantastic group. It seemed like it tried to cram to much in and nothing really got fully developed. Certainly lots of action in this one and good special effects, but I just didn't come out of the theater with that feeling that I had just seen a really fantastic movie. I agree that the part where Peter does his Jazz thing was a little to over the top, and the part were he breaks into tears on the bridge when Mary Jane is dumping him was a little hard to watch to. I also never really saw where the black suit gave him more powers. It certainly made him more confident to the point of arrogance, but all the things he did with the black suit seemed to be the same things he was able to do before.

I did probably like this one better then 2 but not as much as 1. Also was better the X-Men Last Stand.

I think the fans just had to make their own conclusions as informed viewers

like me, I figured he went to a planet to fight in the Secret Wars and the comet came back with the symbiote because it wanted Peter again. Or it was just a scene to substitute what really happened, like with Evil Dead 2

The fight scenes were aggressive, yeah, but then again Spidey's fights are always aggressive. Only difference I saw when he was fighting was the fact that the suit was black and every now and again he'd make some comment to piss off the enemy. Which he tends to do anyway. I'll admit, the whole pumpkin bomb being thrown at Harry was good. That's what I would have wanted more of. More anger from him rather than dancing around in a club. =/

The whole being pleased with 'killing' Sandman. Again, that's mean not aggressive. And that's fine, make him mean too, it just emphasises how bad he is. Just don't dance. His intentions were bad but the way he went about them were just silly I thought.

Like I said, I still enjoyed the movie. I just think it could have been better in parts.

Some spoilers!

It had it's scenes that were beatiful. Especialy the crane scene. BUt overall i'd give this movie a big fat F. I hate to say it but it was highly disapointing and a very big stinker of a movie. Venom never named himself didn't get near enough exposure, if i didn't know who he was, seeing him would have offered 0 interest. Sandman was not important to the story, he slowed it down. THe black suits anger could have been effectivly shown on the goblin rather than murdering sandman. The jazz number was way too over the top. The love story was way overdrawn. Rather than seem crazy Harry just seemed stupid, or high. Brock seemed a little creepy at first but was still not brock in my mind. The damage a single pumpkin bomb could do changed through out the movie. Small burn to harry's face vs. completely vaporize Eddie Brock. Sandman didn't die leaving a dangling plot thread. Way Way Way to much of Peter parker's face showing up in the spiderman suit. Surely someone would have seen him, which btw really hurt 2 for me as well. And finaly the ending was terrible. IT could have been half way redeemed if Peter simply dropped to his knee, held out the ring and said simply "forgive me" It suffered a lot from what x 3 did, lets crame everything in so if we can't make another fans can say they have seen it on screen!

I hate to say it but i just think this movie stunk. Hopefully they WON'T make another one. I really these negative reveiws will stop at least some people from going. I would have hoped they learned from x-men. I don't want them to keep making bad movies!

I woke up today still excited about this movie

it was so freaking awesome, and SO freaking funny I loved it

the cookie scene and the Ash scene were awesome

God Raimi is a genius, godlike almost

and to the guy above me, it's all subjective. They DID learn from the x-men movies. X1 and X2 were horrible, but at least X3 FELT like a comic book movie

Hahah I loved that cookie scene, along with Peter "rolling his eyes from boredom look" as Dr.Conners rattles on about the symbiote. What an awesome movie! I forgot that Sandman was that mechanic in Wings. Topher Grace was good. I liked where they went with the Goblin. Will definitely watch this one again.

Just to add my 2 cents - I liked it quite a bit. The fights were well done and the humor was funny - especially Campbell's French host - hilarious. The thing I didn't like was how they glazed over all the characters in a superficial way. I also liked the development given to Octavius and his crossing over to the dark side. The 3 villains here were all cookie-cutter and superficial. I definitely enjoyed the movie but it did feel very constructed. You could just see the writers putting the plot together to lead to the big pay off battle at the end. I'd rather they had just done Venom or Goblin with maybe a minor secondary villain to mix it up.

I did like the movie, im with the ok group.

What I liked about the movie:

Peter´s attitude when he had the black suit. It emphasized his ocult side: he wasn´t shy anymore, it was self confident , agressive while debunking Eddie´s photo and fighting with Harry in is apartment, or slapping MJ!

Harry´s story. He´s a bad guy, loses his memory, he remembers again, becomes evil again, then he redeems himself and dies. Easy.

Action: Raimi knows how to make really cool scenes with different angles, he knows how Spidey should move, and were to move, like in Gwen´s rescue sequence: Spider-man goes throught the moving crane, then propels from the falling building pieces to reach Gwen, it was just amazing.

Church´s acting, the humor.

What I didn´t like:

The whole symbiote thing.

Symbiote´s origin: a space rock with an evil alien in it falling zactly where peter and mj where?

the previous villains had a solid origin background. The symbiote´s a black oily thing that fell from space.

Venom: don´t get me wrong. I loved it, BUT there are things that are basic to the character and the symbiote that i didn´t see in the movie.

-He never refers himself as "us" or "venom"

-He doesn´t have a deep voice. It´s like seeing a tough guy, speaking with a 14 year old voice.

-Screen time: 30 mins??? less??? WTF??

Finally, James Acheson...

He was the light and the shadow. He creates an amazing Spider-man costume. One of the best hero costumes. but what happened to Black suit Spider-man??? He just made it black! It could have made it look better, honestly. He just distortioned the spider a bit and left it greay, or silver, not even white. It looked dirty

On the other side...Power Rangers Goblin? Ock as one of those flashing guys, just using a coat? a Gotcha mask Goblin!?!?? and Venom??? he looks great, from the neck up, but the rest?? same thing that happened to spidey´s suit, the big white spider is hardly noticeable. It was a simple design, why ruining it??

the symbiote plot, should have had another movie.
