I was fortunate enough to have Bendis sign a few comics in Toronto at a commic con a while back.......when asked when Hawkeye would be back Bendis said:

"Dead is dead".

And yet, we now know our favourite bowman is back!

But what about Cap? Will he be back? Or has this portion of the American Dream been put to rest forever?

What say you, true believers?

Sadly I think they'll stick to their guns this time and keep him dead for a while.

God I can't wait for Quesada and Bendis to leave Marvel.

Kurt where are you when we need you?

LOL....

One of the wonderful things about comics is that no matter how bad it gets, they can always make it right again.

Even Gwen Stacey sleeping with Norman Osborn (yuck) can be changed to a clone Gwen...or she was artifically inseminated and brainwashed...or it was a skrull posing as Gwen...etc...etc...

So some way...some how....I think Cap has just got to come back...he is one hero who I think is truly irreplaceable.

What will America be like without him? Who else can sum up the spirit of the USA like Cap did?.....It will be bad no doubt, but then Cap will return and make it right.

But I agree it will be some time.......

If I had just seen the comics, I would think that Cap was not only going to return, but was still alive and would be by the end of the arc, but this has been all over the media, so they are obviously serious about it. They don't throw around the death of comic book characters too much in the media, Spider-Man died last year too, but no one outside the comic community knew, because he came back. Cap IS dead.

If he were Superman, or even Hawkeye, where the character is defined by the person in the suit, he would be returning one day, but Captain America's costume is the symbol of America, not the man inside it. It's possible he could come back someday, but I think it is more likely we will see a new person become the classic cap. Much like Barry Allen Flash was replaced by Wally West, and they stuck with it.

I don't believe he's dead either. We saw a gloved hand dangling from under a sheet. He'll be back and soon. He's probably set himself up to appear to be assassinated to promote the healing after the Civil War. He'll probaly get back into action as the new new Ronin or somebody.

I agree that a new person will take on the Cap mantle in the near future.....I would love to see Falcon do it, but I think perhaps Isaiah Bradley's son (his name escapes me right now, but he was in a limited series with War Machine) may be the candidate......the Marvel Universe knows that Steve Rodgers is "dead"....so a look alike is not necessary and in my opinion not preferable.....Sharon Carter would be a good candidate too and I think big things are in store for her regardless......

It took DC over a decade to bring back Hal Jordan, despite a lot of anger and angst from the fanbase.

But have no fear...Steve Rogers will one day be back. The guy who got killed was a clone!!! (just kidding! but wouldn't that be perfect?!?!?)

Personally, I couldn't care less anymore. Captain America disappeared during WW II. The guy they thawed out was "Captain Sensitive", a conflicted, angst-ridden wuss.

If the Steve Rogers that returns is more like the Ultimate Cap, the one who kicks a**, takes names, and doesn't get all verklempt about treating criminals and terrorists like the scum that they are, then I say "great!". But if it's Captain Sensitive, the one who quit after Watergate(??), drew comics freelance for Marvel (LOL!), and gets all misty about the supposed rights of terrorists, then I hope he never comes back.

But hey...that's just my opinion...

The way I've heard it explained was 12 was just a temp number with the hopes of Tony being able to increase the number down the line. Atleast one character took the deal, the Falcon as shown in Cap #25. The members of the New Avengers were all offered the deal and turned it down, which is why they are now being hunted as fugitives.

How do you know they were offered it?.. I do agree that I thikn falcon took it though because hes flying right out in the open in that iss & no ones going after him at all which is kinda weird! Other wise I don't remember reading much about who was offered what ... & I do recall though that in civil war tony said they had 12 & he was going to try to get something like... 42 more or 49 more or some such from the big P ...

I say we won't see Steve Rogers for a couple of years. It would be cool to see Falcon take up the mantle of Captain America, or a version of Cap's costume.

I'm a little confused though. In Civil War:The Confession, we get two stories featuring Cap and Iron Man; the first is Iron Man talking to Cap's body, and the second is Captain America being detained on the Shield Hellicarrier. Cap and Iron Man have an exchange of words, and then it ends. So I'm reading this as a big conspiracy that Iron Man faked Cap's assasination, and now has Cap tucked away on the Hellicarrier. I haven't heard much else about it; what do you guys think?

The Cap story takes place before the Iron Man story.

I'd like to see bucky/WS take over as cap and lead the YA team :)

That would be fun :P Of corse it could be two books, one focusing more on bucky & one more on the YA

Hey they killed Superman and brought him back within a year. Hawkeye was "Killed" and brought back recently, so I can safely bet that Steve Rogers will be back. They will probably keep the title going w/ having friends or allies of cap filling in going against Cap villians.

And it was one of the happiest days of my life.... :D

I'm guessing that Steve Rogers will be back. Icons don't stay dead for long, hehe.....
