Variant Psylocke & Luke Cage on Ebay...... for $2500 !!!

Honestly, this is nuts, and I'll tell you why these will start showing up real soon in larger numbers than one case each (and if anyone else here works in manufacturing, please back me up).

The manufacturing process is expensive. Breakdown and set-up times on the manufacturing line cost money, not only in parts but in actual labor. The employees are idle for a set period of time, but still being paid. For this reason, manufacturers hate disruptions in "the line."

Therefore, I have a REAL hard time believing that they would discontinue production on these variants after making 1 case worth of figures. It's simply not cost-efficient from a manufacturing standpoint. More likely, TOY-BIZ would want to recoup the loss of the license by making as many as possible, and shipping them as soon as possible.

We were told that these were effectively "dead". Now it turns out, per this guy on E-Bay with his mysterious "source" in Hong-Kong that they made 1 case (?!?!?!). Sorry, but it doesn't ad up.

If this guy can make $2,500 for these, more power to him, but "Ex caveat emptor!" ("To the buyer, beware!")

Sorry, I don't want to argue, and this is the last I'll post on this topic, this is why I don't believe that these toys are authentic.

Hey I totally see what you and so no tornato are saying, because logically it does not make sense that only a case of these would have been made. But it isnt the first time this has happened with a product.

See the GI JOE "Pimp daddy destro" for a great example...there are only a handful of them accounted for

The dubious "Wonder Bread HeMan" from the 80s MOTU line...

"Vlix" from that animated Star Wars line comes to mind too, though that one may have just been produced in small quantities to begin with.

But really, going back to the manufacturing process and all, it really just comes down to a paint app process. Psylocke and Luke Cage were not changed for the variants, other than the colors. I bet if t hey had different heads or different bodies (a la Thor Buster Iron Man vs. Destroyer), then I would REALLY be shocked/pissed off that toy biz didnt create more. But in this case all they had to do was begin squeezing out a few of these, maybe as prototypes, then decide to nix them after a hanful were made.

At any rate Im glad Blackcat has them, but I am hoping they show up again later down the road. Even if they do, she has a true rare item as I doubt they will be presented how they are in the packaging t hey are in.

Not trying to argue, but if Toybiz had an opportunity to bring these variants out in full force, they would have. But their license was expiring and the manufacturing companies in the east had no time to get them out. If there were only a few of these produced, great. It doesn't mean that they have a huge warehouse of them and that we will see them at retail.

I'm no expert, but companies like Toybiz have to have mock-ups or even prototypes to present to potential clients such as Walmart. Remember when the Walmart wave got out "early" because an employee "accidentally" put them out on the sales floor, even though they were prototypes fully packaged? If they made a case of each variant, that's their thing.

There was a thread that we would soon see the much in demand figures of Doombot and Annihilus, but they have yet to surface today. It's a good gesture that they are giving the collectors a chance, but until there's some sort of official press release that they will be released, along with these variants of Luke Cage and Psylocke, I don't see them coming. Maybe Hasbro will put them out in future ML waves, but it won't be the same as what could of been with Toybiz. Look what Hasbro did to their very first ML wave, which was tweaked very much from what was shown at Comic-Con.

On another note, last year's San Diego Comic-Con, I saw Jesse and some reps from Toybiz with a few cases of samples of Marvel Legends from both Hasbro and Toybiz factory sealed on cards. They opened them up and put them out in the counter cases for display. Among them were the scrapped figures of the "X-babies" and the evil organization soliders such as AIM, Hydra, and the Hand. How many of these samples were produced? I don't know, but the bottom line is they too were factory sealed like they were ready for sale, but I'm sure they had unique bar codes and what not because they were samples.

Hi everyone-

The only thing that I can't account for is the actual number of these that were manufactured.

Sorry to throw a wrench in the works but I actually have one of the Luke Cage variants.

I'm thinking of putting it up on e-bay, but after reading all these posts, I'm not sure how much to put it up for.

Any realistic suggestions?

Thanks

Put it up for $400, each, and I'll buy them from you.

if anything s tart it low with a set reserved price that will make you happy if it gets made :) Now that we all know how rare these are who knows whats they could go for. I'd sell them each separately as well ofcorse :)

yeah but its his money, let him do with it what he wants.......i mean hell i paid 400 to get the series 8 + variants 2 to 3 months before everyone else.

I remember that.. it was some kind of special auction or something, for a charity right?

anyways.. I am not bashing the guy who bought them. I was just replying to the poster who said we all would if we had the spare change... and I would never... we all have our own morals and values... I am not trying to put anyone down.

yep, it was for Jesse's friend who had some blood disease and was in need of a blood transfusion. thats one reason why i had no problem paying that much for them. it went to help save someones life.

Your mind indeed has been clouded by the darkside of the force.....they are not coming, young padawan. Use the force, and you too will see empty hands for you. which leads to much sorrow, much anger, much fear D"OH the path to the DARKSIDE is for you.

I'm leery of them showing up in Hasbro's line--simply because they are just repaints. With no new parts to them, there's really no need to reissue them.

Now, something like the Wasp, with the prototype's long hair sculpt would make more sense--but its still a extremely unlikely thing.

Hasbro got the molds and brand to continue from Toybiz/Marvel--but I really doubt they see any need to continue the same marketing plan.

I could see re-using certain older molds and parts of older molds to make "new figures", like in the proposed Marvel Heroes sub-line. But I just can't see it so that we can all get a silver-shirted Powerman.

Just doesn't make any sense to me.

Huh? Since when is Hasbro not interested in repaints? There is an Emma, Wolverine and Surfer ALREADY...and they have only released 2 waves, lol! Talk to a Star Wars collector about Hasbro and repaints. They bought those molds and will squeeze out whatever money they can from them. I could care less about the Cage variant but few collectors would pass on the Psylocke and Blue Wasp, IMO.

I agree. They'll be out sometime in the near future.

Honestly-I don't think spray-painting an old Wolverine figure, or NOT painting an Emma Frost figure qualifies as a repaint

that's weird I could've sworn the starting price was $300 or $350 now it's $400 with no bids. Upped the price mofo1?

yup

I re-read post #79 of this thread that mentioned $400

and then I saw that the other auction had a buy it now of $800, so I figured I should at least start at half of what the other one went for, and WAY less than half of the original price for the set of Psylocke and Luke that sparked this thread initially...

The thing I find odd is that most of the ones that were/are up for sale, seem to be coming out of the NY area. Once again, the midwest gets ignored by toy producers. I claim shenanigans!!

So let me get this straight, then...re-painting something DOES NOTmake it a re-paint ????

Man, that's weird...kind of like my friend Siwhe...who's been told he's NOT an African-American...even though he's from Liberia, and lives in New Jersey...

...so what is a "re-paint" then ???

...and does this mean that a figure with no joints is "highly articulated" ???

...weird...
