Howdy

@loll@ Well, if Capt. America had a ventriloquist dummy, we now know what it would look like.

If anything, Bucky Doody here is the one I think needs the most work. He looks too tall, he looks taller than the FA Cap. Plus the "sheriff's badge" is odd, I've checked around and never found a pic of him sporting the star on his shirt, plus that same shirt usually had buttons on both sides, or so I thought. The chaps though, are just weird. Still, it shouldn't be too hard to make him look more like this: http://www.marveldirectory.com/individuals/b/buckyi.htm

Just checked and my suspicions are correct...

Bucky is a straight repaint of the Young Avengers Boxed Set Patriot. It has a different collar on Bucky, but it's the same body, and explains the star that never appeared on Bucky's costume. All that seems new on this figure is the head and different collar.

I do not usually reply to these sorts of topics...but I must agree Hasbro has no idea what they are doing.

It has taken Hasbro well over 15 years to produce GOOD Star Wars figures, no one should have to own thirty Darth Vader's before getting a multi-joint figure.

How do you make more money while supplying the same basic product?

Easy, take away the comic book, take away the paint applications, take away some of the articulation, and in the case of the Spider-man movie figures(which are incredibly lame)decrease the scale.

And when all that is done, charge the customer more money, Whee - Ha it must rule to work for Hasbro.

The truly sad part of this is most of the "collectors" market will still buy these simply on speculation, therefore ensuring Hasbro never learns a damn thing.

It is also a speculation of mine that Toybiz knew the line of primary characters was over, and happily bowed out with dignity.

And as a final statement of my Hasbro bashing...ORANGE BATMAN...what the ..

Now here is an argument I don't get that I see pop up periodically. Ok you don't like Hasbro's ML, thats your opinion and you have every right to it, but what does that have to do with going and buying or not buying the Indie Legends stuff? I mean if you like the characters being made in Indie Legends then I would assume you will go buy them regardless of wheather you like or dislike Hasbro's ML. But I don't get making threats like your going to go buy Indie Legends cause you dont like Hasbro's ML.

well, for me... its not so much a threat.... I am not buying Indie Legends because I dislike Hasbro ML. I love the Legendary Comic Book heroes line, and would be buying them regardless, because they fit so nicely with my Toybiz Marvel Legends (I will not be buying some of the overly-artist specific figures).

However, I will say that it definitely does contribute to how many Indie Legends I will buy. And I am guessing that goes for many, many, collectors.

Hasbro's Marvel Legends are now in direct competition with MarelToys, Legendary Comic Book Heroes for the old Toybiz Marvel Legend fans' money.

Legendary Comic Book heroes will fit in much better with a Toybiz Marvel Legend collection, so many fans will buy them because of that.

Legendary Comic Book heroes are better designed and planned than Hasbro Marvel Legends, so many fans will buy them because of that.

Some fans will not be giving their money to Hasbro's Marvel Legends, and they have to buy something to cure the itch, and Legendary Comic Book Heroes are the perfect scratch.

I mean, lets face it.. Some fans only have so much cash to spend on toys.. and because Hasbro is making an inferior product, they will lose money that way if people choose to buy Legendary Comic Book heroes instead.

In this case, I guess it is a threat. For example, "Because I dislike Hasbro's figures, I will buy more of the legendary Comic book heroes. If Hasbro made better figures, I would choose them instead."

I Hate the cartonization of the ML line. I want my figures to look like little statues. Hence, I will NOT be purchasing any of the Hasbro ML. I will concentrate on the DC 13 inch & the toybiz 1998 Famous Covers. I will get the Hasbro Signature Mego style Doc Ock & Iron Spidey becuase they do not appear in the famous covers. I am going to make a homage to Marvel Mego shelf.

Damn you Hasbro, damn you all to hell!

Legendary Comicbook Heroes ROCKS!

(Though someone deleted my LCH topic from the main forum... @hmmm@ Why?)

I'm game for Savage Dragon, Dredd, Darkness and Marv for sure. I wonder wich figures will be included in the next line. My secret hope is Lobo, but since the new DC direct version just came out, and since he is DC's character, I think it'll stay only a dream for me.

I personally would have been buying some the Indie Legends regardless of how well Hasbro was doing, simply because they look cool. However, I have seen people suggest that DCSH sales are now going to go through the roof because people are so unhappy w/ HML's ( @loll@ ) , so I don't think this suggestion is nearly as weird. Toy Biz/Marvel Toys had a lot of fans so it's natural that people would gravitate towards a new line by them.

You hate "cartoonization", but you're going to focus on buying the Famous Covers figs from 1998??

Sorry...but I'm confused...

He reminds me of the Hamburglar...

Holy cow! You're right!

But I'm still psyched to get a Golden-Age Bucky and Cap. Could anymore Golden-Age Marvel greats be far behind??

Destroyer?

Original Human Torch (and Toro)?

Black Marvel?

The Angel?

The Patriot?

Flaming Skull?

The original Vision?

The original Black Widow?

Hmmmmmm..... @hmmm@

Yes, thats correct. Those figures are so horrible that they are cool! PLUS its a throwback to the 1970s Mego figures, which I said I am making a homage to that style & era. So those work for me.

When i first got into marvel legends, i was a really big spawn figure freak. With their statuesque look and really great paint apps and details. I was never into articulation at the time. But as the line progressed i saw more realistic details and the articulation was becoming much better and less noticeable to me. Now with Hasbro taking over and how big a fan base that toybiz made for the line, youd think they would keep that same formula and put their name over toybiz. I mean hell they even used the same damn hulk sculpt with some minor tweaks.

Why not keep the same formula i.e. same type of articulation, paint apps, washes, etc. Instead they seem to be less than what they were when toybiz was in charge. Toybiz protos to finals started effing up when their plastic started to become cheap.

Seemed after their first 3 giant BAFs their expenses started to pile up and they had to cheapen their products to make up for it. That was about the same time as the onslaught wave, when their lines started to show depreciation and cheapness. I still really love their last waves though and onslaught is still a favorite to me. But i saw how the plastic became more maliable and the paint apps became less and less. Hell look at the scarlet witches' head. It looks like a 5 year old painted it and with paint from the dollar store.

With some people saying hasbro just needs a few waves to get adjusted, i think they have plenty to go on and if they have the same team that worked on the toybiz lines then nothing drastic should even occur. Yet with these new waves look more and more blocky and basic and less detailed it kind of worries me. They even changed the toybiz sculpts they were using to make their muscles less detailed and more blocky. Quicksilvers body was originally using capt marvel/moon knight/bullseye/taskmaster but they blocked out his biceps and legs and smoothed down the muscle striations on his thighs. If i wanted cartoony, less articulated versions of my favorite marvel comic characters i would go buy toybiz's older lines before ML ever happened.

With hasbro in control of where ML is going, i just cant fathom buying ML much anymore. Dont get me wrong, i dont hate hasbro, but in my personal opinion, i do hate where they are taking the ML line.

Hate to say this, but toys always look better in 2-ups. Quality is lost in the downscaling and I've come to expect it. Happened with MOTU, happened with LOTR and it happened with ToyBiz ML too. Prime example of quality lost with ToyBiz ML was Series 11, the Legendary Riders wave. The figures shown on the back of the packaging are the 2-ups and they look spectacular, however the actual figures them themselves were terrible.

2-ups are also there to be shown to retailers. To show them the upcoming products and get them interested. Large retailer chains aren't looking at it as a collector would. They're looking at the 2-up and thinking "That's interesting toy, we'll order that. It will make money.”

An argument for the Jean Grey figure looking really bad compared to the 2-up could be made, however even that photo is a little old now and from what I've seen online, they actually have improved the head sculpt:

78147ebc37f_Main400.jpg

The Jean Grey and She-Hulk are the only ones that really look very different from the 2-ups and while they haven't changed the She-Hulk's head sculpt, as I stated they appear to have changed Jean's. They rest of the figures don't look that different, other then some paint detail. Remember as well, this is a massively produced line and paint detail isn't always going to be added. This isn't NECA, which is catering to the collector; this is Hasbro, which is catering to the mass market.

Do I think Hasbro is doing a bad job? Not really. They are doing a different job. Their figures are proving to be not as articulated as ToyBiz's were, which to be honest I think makes for a much sturdier figure. I won't say this is the case from every figure Hasbro has done so far, as their Iron Spider-Man figure is pure crap. However I will be giving them a bit more time before I completely judge everything they put out.

Oh, and Mattel put out an orange Batman as well.

those two are just as cartoonish in my opinion.... looks like Toybiz had some growing to do with their first wave, too.

Problem with that is that Toybiz had barely started with that kind of articulation and sculpting, Hasbro has TB's sculpters, and resources but aren't using them all, and making up their own artictulation which sucks. And then alot of their own sculpted faces. @puke@

I know the resources are there... but wouldn't you want to make your own place, and not have everyone think you are just copying someone else's idea?

I don't think these look cartoonish at all. They look exactly like Cap and Ironman. The Ironman especially looks like Gene Colan drew him during his classic Silver-Age run on "Tales of Suspense".

Now, if by "cartoonish" you mean they're not over-detailed in the hyper-realistic style of 90's-type artists like McFarlane, et al, then I would agree with you. And I'd still prefer these.
