The Women Of Legends.....Why Do You Have To Suck?

Mystique, Scarlet Witch, Emma Frost........all suck.....

My question to my fellow collectors is "Why does it have to be so?"

The articulation being difficult on the thinner limbs of a female sculpt is one thing, but why are the faces sooooo ugly.

DC Direct has done a good job of female faces and forms (generally), but articulation suffers.

I for one, would be pleased with a better female sculpt with less articulation if I get a figure that looks good.

Having said all of that, I like the Phoenix and the Wasp figures, to me, the best females in the line.....but still, there is room for improvement.

What say you?

I think it's because, being "women", the figs are made thinner and more slender. This makes the joints look knobby, so to counter that, the make the joints smaller, which makes them delicate.

Personally, I would sacrifice some articulation for a better sculpt, which is why I prefer the FF Classics Wave 2 Invisible Woman to the other incarnations of that character done by Toy-Biz.

FYI, IMO the following female figs "do not suck":

Black Widow (IMO, the best female Legend...)

Warbird

Invisible Woman (as above)

Wasp (red & blue variant)

Psylocke (excellent sculpt, and well designed, if a bit small...)

Phoenix

Kitty Pryde (even though I don't like the character, it's a good figure...)

X-Treme Rogue (outstanding sculpt...I finally found her the other day at K-B Toys...)

X-23 (not great, but not "sucky", either...she looks like a teenager, which is what she is...)

However, the afore-mentioned Scarlet Witch and Emma Frost belong in the "suck" HOF...

IMHO Psylocke was and is the best woman sculpt-wise that we've had. It can be done, but yeah it's difficult. Let's just wait and see what Hasbro gives us, eh?

I like Psylocke as well, but her size hurts her....I'm not talking about height. For me Dark Phoenix is still the best.....her neck is not quite nice, but from head on you dont really see joint.

Psylocke is OK, hate the hips though(hips like that should not be allowed on ML figs) and her face just isn't all that good either, and she's not bulky enough, Psylocke is posed to be larger then that. Emma same deal however she has good hips if a tad small looking but lame elbows and no bicep swivle hurts, her face isn't that bad really, main problem with it that i see is her cheeks need to be a more puffy. Witch's body sucks(but thats cause its Mystiques) and while her paint on her face is awful its an ok sculpt lying under the paint, but yeah for me Phoenix and Warbird are THE best ML females(specially Warbird her face sculpt/paint is awesome) followed very closely by Storm.

Really? I think you're the first person I've ever heard who likes that figure. How can you overlook the neck issue?

But I do agree that a lot of the other figures have been good. Sure, some have sucked, like Mystique, but probably an equal percentage of male characters have sucked as well. Maybe it's just more noticeable with the ladies since there aren't as many of them.

I don't even notice the neck issue.

Costume: Perfect

Sculpt: Excellent

Articulation: Just right

Hair: Perfect. Very 1960's

I actually thought Mystique was a good sculpt - I mean, she's looks like Mystique looked in her first appearance in Uncanny X-Men # 141. The problem for me was that the finished product was physically flimsy. No sooner had I taken her out of the package than her left arm broke off at the shoulder. I returned her to Toys-R-Us, and found another one. And guess what? No sooner had I taken her out of the package than her left arm broke off at the shoulder!

To this day, I don't have her in my collection. I refuse. TOY-BIZ really soured me on her.

Why has no one mentioned Storm yet??? @smilepunch@

She's one of the best/accurate sculpts in the ML series!

I agree with the Black Widow neck thing... its horrible and ruins her completely.

I agree with Stormfan... why isn't Storm getting any love here?

The ML8 Storm figure is hands down the best female Marvel Legend, and in my top 5 of all-time best made Marvel Legends figures... its nearly perfect.

I disagree...

The ML Storm figure has excellent detail. The sculpt however is way too skinny, and the head is really small. She looks like she has an eating disorder and suffers from shrunken head sindrome. If the body was a little fuller and the head bigger she would be perfect.

I do love how the leg joint is done on storm, althought the crotch looks like a diaper. the belt should have been sculpted on the crotch instead of the waist so that the crotch part would not look so big. The boots and heels are perfect.

The Elektra neck joint that was used on Phoenix, Warbird, and Black Widow is horrible, as well as the horrible duck feet.

There is so date no ML female figure that is perfect.

I will say that Phoenix has the best articulation and has the best bootie. Wasp and SpiderWoman have NO bootie, but the chest/torso area looks good.

You're right! She's one of the best. Props to ML 8 Storm. I forgot her...I hang my head in shame...

Yep, the best ML female figure IMO is Storm. They got it dead-on with her and then they never bothered to follow up with the design.

I agree that Black Widow had a great body design as well, but her neck was the aweful design on her. My friend and I discussed that when she came out as to why they could do that great neck design on Storm, but couldn't on her?

The only other figure that comes even remotely close to being a decent design was the movie FF Invisable Girl figure. The one with the disc-shooting stand. Always though they did a great design on her as well.
