Hasbro Legends Wave revised 2 pics...

So No Tornato

still not nearly as good as the SDCC versions

NOTHING is ever as good as the prototypes shown at SDCC, regardless of the line being displayed.

That's how it was for TOY-BIZ with Waves 1-15, and that's it is with HASBRO.

Yeah exactly! Silly Clam! @smilepunch@

Something in these figures lack that thing that brought the toybiz figures to life. They are missing something and I can't figure out what it is exactly. Its like when you forget to put that secret ingredient into your cookies and you can taste that something is a little 'off'.

IMO It's the skin tones and the eyes.

This is going to sound ridiculous, but they look plastic. One of the things I dug the most about TB was the face sculpts and skin tones (O.K, not on all figs, but def the majority) and these just look cheap and the heads are "off".

Figs like YJ look great because his eyes are covered and he has no expression, whereas She-Hulk looks like she's trying on a new outfit in a boutique in Laguna Beach.....where's the attitude??

If they ever fixed those two ingredients, then I'll be broke again.

As Jigsaw implied. . . the thing that's missing is a little thing we like to call 'paint.' Hasbro apparently does not find it necessary to paint figures in order to add dimension and texture to their sculpt -- which, of course, means that the finished figure looks like a '90s reject with the shiny, smooth plastic skin and complete lack of detailing which paint washes bring out.

But for me -- even if Hasbro did the best paint apps ever, I'm not buying any figure with that crappy Sigma Six joint. It's stupid, it doesn't look good, it doesn't move correctly, and the person that invented it should be shot in the stomach and left in the desert.

Boy I'm grumpy today. . .

Looks like the same crappy figures to me. No paint washes - shiny, ugly plastic, and yet more downgrading in articulation. I might get a few Quicksilvers, because he uses the Havoc/Moon Knight/Captain Marvel body, and I like that sculpt for some customs.

There's not a single figure Hasbro has released in wave 1, nor a figure I can see from wave 2, that I have any interest in actually owning (aside from fodder purchasing). Thor would have come close, but they screwed him up with their lame Sigma Six arms. Way to go, Hasbro - ruin the only figure I might have actually bought. Oh well, they can keep all of their trash figures until they learn how to paint them.

I need a cigarette.

Come on! In all honesty, if Marvel announced that they were giving the license back to TOY-BIZ, and TOY-BIZ showed these pics, practically everyone would be overcome with joy, and would talk about how TOY-BIZ had "improved upon what HASBRO had started...". But since it's HASBRO, I can't help but think there's an ingrained prejudice.

The recent poll on this board said that 16% of LEGENDS collectors were not going to buy HASBRO figures. If accurate, all I can say is AWESOME!...more figs for me, and easier to find.

Well, another wave with no characters that are particular favorites of mine. Leaves out any prejudice I might have for the sculpts.

As they are, I'm looking forward to Thor because he just looks freakin cool. He'd make a great King Grayskull custom. Only thing I'm worried about are the hip joints (as usual) 'cause the way they look makes it seem like they aren't going to be moving very much. Put that on top of the fact that they are most likely going to use that stupid new hip joint that is so popular and you've got agrivating leg articulation ('cause what's the point of double jointed knees if the legs can't even get anywhere near 90 degrees in front of the body?).

Speaking of that damned hip joint, looks like the Moon Knight (and whatever else it was used for) sculpt is the new thin guy mold they are using. That's great for everything above the waist, but those hip joints are the worst on those figures. Who the hell thought it was a good idea to have to twist the ball before being able to move the leg forward or to the side? What happen to the plain ball joints? Was it too much to be able to freely move the legs back, forward, and to the sides that they felt an added frustration was in order? I don't even see an amazing change in sculpt to warrent the new hip joints. Not to mention the fact that if kids still get Marvel Legends the legs could be easily broken off because some kid (who knows the general use of action figures by moving the legs and arms around) moves the legs forward, finds that they don't move, and tried pushing them until they do (since past figures have been shown to stick sometimes).

Guh....anyway, none of that is Hasbro's fault. Toy Biz started those damned legs. Hasbro is trying to branch out a bit at least; the new elbow joint makes it so the arms can now cross the chest. Before, with the bicep joint, the big bicep would run into the chest when turned to the side. Now the bicep stays straight, the flat part flush with the body, allowing the elbow twist to move the arms directly across the chest.

Finally: what's up with Ult. Wolverine's face? Is that based offa some particular artist? He looks like Abe Lincoln.

Wow, what do you base that statement on???.

For you to presume that "In all honesty......practically everyone" has an ingrained prejudice towards Hasbro is arrogant.

The fact is, one of the favourite toy lines for collectors has been taken over by another company, some people love the new sculpts, some people hate the new sculpts and some are indifferent.

If you're going to post a thread that will (by it's very nature) inspire other boarder's opinions, then the very least you can do is respect them.

Ummmmm....the thread was started to tell people that new pics are available.

FYI, I base my statement on age, experience, careful observation, and knowledge of human nature.

If that comes across as "arrogant" to you, so be it...and too bad.

@loll@ That is priceless.

Look, I'm glad you think the line is flourishing and there will be more figs for you (well, actually if ppl stop buying them there will in fact be less figs for you because it's hard to sustain a line that ain't selling).

They look cool! Its just a shame Hasbro always photoshop the hell out of their toy pics by giving them a 'black wash' effect.

I have to agree with Tornato. It may be a broad statement but I think it's true in a lot of circumstances.

Uh. . nope. If TB showed these pics, I'd want to know what changed within the company because the new figures are not nearly up to the standards we've set for ToyBiz. We know they can do much better, in terms of paint apps and articulation, at least. So if TB was the company showing off these figures, I'd say I'm very disappointed in TB's apparent drop in quality and value.

But since it's HASBRO, I can't help but think there's an ingrained prejudice.

I don't like Hasbro as a company. Never really have. I don't particularly like Microsoft as a company either - but I'll give them their props when they do something good. Same goes for Hasbro. If they give me something that really impresses me, or reaches my expectations, then I have no problem saying so. Likewise, if they show me something that looks cheap and pathetic, I'm going to say that as well.

Also, in order for me to have any desire to downplay Hasbro in order to make TB look good, I'd have to believe TB is a great company. I don't believe that. They had plenty of problems that Hasbro (from what I've heard) is fixing - like really loose joints, rubbery joints, poor plastic, terrible quality control - etc. What TB did very well is make good looking figures with nice paint applications (barring the quality control issues). TB wasn't amazing - but their figures certainly looked better than anything Hasbro has shown so far.

The recent poll on this board said that 16% of LEGENDS collectors were not going to buy HASBRO figures. If accurate, all I can say is AWESOME!...more figs for me, and easier to find.
Except that 'more for me' equates to 'less for Hasbro.' Lower sales figures is not a GOOD thing, no matter how you want to spin it. However, that doesn't seem to be a problem just yet, as Jesse Falcon said that Hasbro has already submitted their plans for the first wave of 2008. ML isn't likely to end anytime soon unless it gets far worse sales than it has.

(One could also argue that scalpers bought a lot of these figures, expecting them to sell at ridiculous levels on eBay, like TB figures always did. They've been terribly disappointed by the dual harships of better distribution by Hasbro, and lower interest among collectors -- wave 2 could very well sell much poorer than wave 1, as scalpers seem to be learning that HML1 isn't doing as well as they'd anticipated in the secondary market.)

FYI, I base my statement on age, experience, careful observation, and knowledge of human nature.
Age? I'd love to hear how 'age' makes you more or less capable of knowing how many people in a given group have a particular prejudice. Experience and careful observation -- in what? How much experience and observation about how TB fans view Hasbro could you possibly have gained in the very short amount of time ML fans have even known Hasbro was taking over the license? And I'd say, finally, your knowledge of human nature is lacking.

Humans, by and large, have very little loyalty. Do something better than the person they like, and they'll forget about them rather immediately. What humans are not is forgiving. Do something worse, and they won't let you forget it. Your 'knowledge of human nature', rather, should tell you that people complaining about Hasbro's ML are doing so because they genuinely feel the figures are not GOOD.

You are being arrogant, and impressing your opinion as if its fact, and so those who disagree with it are simply 'prejudiced.' Some people do like Hasbro's offerings. Some people think it's sub-par compared to what we've had in the past. Both groups can have their opinions without being prejudiced in one direction or another.

Personally, I hope TB does away with the Sigma Six arms and puts more effort into painting their figures. If they do that - I believe they can be -better- than ToyBiz ever was, even at its best. Until they do that, however, I will hold the opinion that their figurse are sub-par, and do not interest me in the least.

Speaking of that damned hip joint, looks like the Moon Knight (and whatever else it was used for) sculpt is the new thin guy mold they are using.
If you're talking about Banshee -- he doesn't use the Moon Knight/Captain Marvel/Havoc/Bullseye body. You can tell most readily by the shoulders and the detail on the chest. The Bullseye shoulders have that back and forth hinge, like ML6 Wolverine, and the chest has more detailing -- sort of wrinkle lines running outward from between the pecs.

I'm not sure which body Banshee uses -- Iceman maybe?

Who the hell thought it was a good idea to have to twist the ball before being able to move the leg forward or to the side?
I may be mistaken -- but I think it's a matter of how the joint can be positioned. The Moon Knight style joint is set into the pelvis-piece at a 45 degree angle. Because of the way it's sunk, it cannot move freely, as you point out. It has to be moved around in order to be moved forward or backward. What you lose in free range of motion from this, you gain in poseability; The 45 degree joint looks more natural in the sculpt, and can be positioned to move the legs much closer to each other.

The other type of joint is sunk at a 90 degree angle, so it can swivel and move freely. But because of the angle, it cannot be brought in to put the legs as close together, and usually also doesn't look as natural in the sculpt.

Again, I may be mistaken. That's just how I recall the joints functioning, and the reason for the disparate styles of articulation.

I agree that the new joint allows for some movement that the old joint didn't. However, in my opinion, the new joint also looks far less natural (cross your arms without your biceps turning. . I dare you). That's my problem with it. It's not that I don't think it's functional -- it certainly works very well. I simply think it -looks- terrible and causes very unrealistic positioning, and so is a step down from the bicep swivel and double-elbow, which may not be as easy to pose, but still works well and looks much better.

But that's entirely a matter of opinion. I don't think most kids, and probably not all collectors, will care overmuch that the arm doesn't move correctly, so long as it poses in the positions they want.

Actually, I never gave a second thought as to whether others would express their opinions. I guess I'm confident enough in my own opinions that I don't get bent out of shape if others express theirs, and especially if they disagree. You, apparently, are different in that respect.

With age comes wisdom, experience, and sound judgement. Wisdom is priceless; one day you'll understand.

To quote the great Ronaldus Magnus:

"I am not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience."

I'll follow suit. Have a great day!

As I said to another post-er, with age comes experience and wisdom. The beauty of wisdom is that it can be extrapolated to ALL things...also, the older you get, the wiser you get, so it never stops coming!

I'm sure I'm not the first person to discover this axiom, or to say it.

And, like I said to the same post-er...one day, you'll understand.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's cute that you're this passionate about toys.

Maybe. Unfortunately, I don't think you ever will.

Wisdom only comes with age to those predisposed to it. Just because you have more candles on your birthday cake does not mean you have any more insight than someone else. Need an example -- how about the United States senate? Lots of old guys with a combined wisdom equal to that of a dead cat.

You're completely misrepresenting what I said. Here's the quote you're referencing:

Nowhere in this quote do I say anything remotely similar to "Practically everyone" who disagreed with you [me] as having "Ingrained predjudice".

You either never learned the fine art of critical reading, or you're purposely attempting to distort what I said.

In any event, you failed on both counts.

Now...do you actually have any insight to add...or would you prefer to flail away blindly?

Wow, that sounds REALLY deep. I'm so impressed. Are you a student?? You must be to utter such sanctimonious profundities. And of course, you place yourself in the latter camp - those "predisposed" to wisdom? What a surprise!

Regarding the US Senate...you know, you're probably right. But I prefer our Senate to any limp-wristed, appeasing, socialist "Parliament" (such a funny word!) of Europe...so I guess we're doing OK!

So No Tornato... wouldnt it be easier just to make one REALLLLLLLLLLY long post replying to each and every person's reply that rubbed you the wrong way???

I will admit I am one of the people that is hating on Hasbro's ML's. I have seen the all the 1st Series in person with the exception of Hulk and IM and I am still not impressed. As much as it pains me to say it, Beast is probably the best, if not somewhat under-sized, figure from the series... too bad I dont collect movie figures. Hercules stilll has that STUPID grin and his skin-tone looks like he got a REALLY cheap and crappy spray on tan. Emma looks like a anorexic crackhead (Calista Flockhart anyone?). Banshee looks like he could REALLY please another guy with that "open-wide" mouth of his. Also I find it HILARIOUS that everyone is saying that IM packaged with the Helmet on or off is a variant or that a blatant mispaint that was caught during production of Planet Hulk is a "variant". If you think those are true variants, you need to go back to collecting Star Wars figures.

Series 2 DOES look better then Series 1.... in photos. I will reserve my judgement until I see them in person, however, why does Hasbro give the characters they make such STUPID fuggin grins? She-Hulk has the "screw-me" eyes and grin. They need to make the facial expressions on the characters they make more fierce and angry.... like I know we ALL want... not stupid smirks and lopsided grins.
