Discuss the 25th Annv. FIGURES here

I am sure they have someone on their pay role that does promo shots of all (or alot) of their toys but the problem is that guy probably takes pictures of all their board games, all their RC Cars, Transformers, everything. The lighting and such is really great and he does a great job with that. But I don't think the guys knows how to "play" with action figures.

I posted it before, but I'll do it again here...

Imagine all the figures we've seen so far, posed in these types of various ACTION poses, demonstrating the awesome EXTRA articulation they're bragging about?

It would sure answer a lot of questions and concerns and even make the figures LOOK even better in just a photograph.

I'm sure the coming argument will be that Hasbro doesn't have the revenue these OTHER companies have, in putting forth the added expense in such a photograph. <_<

HOLY MOLY!

I just saw the rest of the pics... wow.

here are my thoughts:

Baroness: everything looks perfect (especially her hair sculpt!) but her face isn't quite right... I'm hoping it gets fixed up a bit before it hits the toy stores. if not, it looks customizable...

Cobra Commander: WOW. this is basically the PERFECT Cobra Commander. DEAD ON. All he needs is the white stripe on his helmet :) He looks a bit ripped but not TOO much. Either the helmet or the helmet and mask come off it looks like.. maybe for a hood? Or will that be a varient? Either way, I have never seen a Cobra Commander battle helmet look this dead on. Can anyone tell if it has the crease down the center of it or is it completely rounded?

Cobra Trooper: The only thing I dislike is the skintight helmet. Otherwise it is an exact replica of what the trooper looks like on the card art.

Destro: I don't really dig the headsculpt on him... never was a big fan of the green eyes either... But the body and accessories look great.

Duke: I don't like the character but this is another great figure that looks dead on.

Gung Ho: WOW. Is ANYONE complaining about this? It rocks!!

Roadblock: The head looks weird to me... But another solid figure.

Scarlett: Perfect in my eyes.

Snake Eyes: :( I love the body but really don't like the head... and I usually love the 82 design. I hope there is a varient with the visor.

Storm Shadow: Perfect.

I'm thinking the rest are:

11: zartan

12: major Bludd

13: flint

14: lady Jaye

15: dr. mindbender

16: stalker

17: serpentor

18: firefly

19: scrap-iron

20: shipwreck

21: copperhead

22: hawk

23: BAT

24: crimson guard

25: tunnel rat

anyone know if these are all single carded or will there be any 6 packs or anything like that?

Seriously, they need to hire someone who's job is to do nothing but pose figures for their promo shots. I could come up with twenty better poses than they have presented us within about 5 minutes.

I am rather certain Hasbro does, and that is who has posed and taken the picture. a major company like Hasbro isn't just handing out a camera to the secretary to take promo pics of product.

Undoubtedly earning just over minimum wage then....because they SUCK at their job specialty. Do the shots like the ones of the Microman figures, they have on Coreys site, in all the various poses.

Or maybe they are photos of very fragile resin-cast 2-ups, taken in a single afternoon to meet a deadline, which is how its often done.

The figures have to look good first, and if posing stresses the resin parts, they can break. I've got a few resin protos in my collection and they don't take much abuse at all. Therefore a static pose is more practical than a action pose.

Placing a rifle grip into a resin figure's hand, and then tucking the butt to the inside of the arm would place too much stress on a the thumbs--for example. Break the thumb and the figure is ruined for that shoot. And I don't think they have dozens of painted copies of each figure lined up just in case.

So maybe someone doing their job doesn't suck at it......maybe someone is doing the best they can with the time and materials they have? Interesting how a different perspective puts a whole new positive spin on something negative, eh?

If you were the perpetual happy-go-lucky POSITIVE Mr. Happy pants 100% of the time, I'd say YES, nice positive twist on my perspective, but you're not. ;)

You pick and choose your arguments (the same as I) and cast doubt on positive things, as well as throw a lame excuse against a legitimate "negative" gripe, such as this, regarding one-shot photos of action figures, which is all Hasbro EVER does, even when the figures aren't just flimsy, breakable resin protos.

OH DAMN THATS PLASTIC HOTNESS!!!

Gung-Ho's six-pack is so tight its bullet-proof!!!

Baroness looks great, the face could use a little work though. Or at least from that angle it doesn't look so good.

Oh man, that's MY MAN COBRA COMMANDER!!!!I hope they add some waist articulation but other than that he is on the dot,PERFECT!!!! I suppose this might be a dual hood and faceplate interchangeable head version...or they might have a separate hooded version.

Cobra Trooper looks fantastic as well!Army builders are going to be all over him!

Destro looks awesome as well!!!!He looks great, I hope maybe they'll do the chrome head ;)

Roadblock looks sweet as well...DAMN that's a huge machine gun. He also looks "bigger" than the other figures (a la Gung-Ho). Nice work on "hiding" the articulation on his knees.

I LOVE this Snake-Eyes...a perfect transition of the original. But I also have hope that we will see a new sculpt of the '85 version as well. I wouldn't be surprised since he is one of the main characters.

On another note...isn't it ironic that with Transformers the movie coming out the Transfans have been crying for G1 this and G1 that and how they hate all the new Bay-eque designs...while us GI Joe fans are finally getting our long awaited due on the figures and outfits we wanted? :)

It has finally occured to me, that all that Hasbro EVER needed to do, was just release the SAME characters, in their SAME original uniforms and different only in scale or style.

Duke in his original garb like this, in a 12", 8" 2.75" 4", mini bust, statue, hood ornament, ventriloquist dummy, Power Ranger, Marvel Legend knockoff, you NAME IT toy brand....

would have all you 30-somethings wettin' yer britches?

Works for me, VH! ;)

Actually, it's like Superman, Spider-Man and Batman (for me) they really haven't altered their costumes too much over the years.

What do you guys think of the double knee articulation and the upper body articulation?

Not happy with it.....in theory!

Having one to play with and pose it, in various stances will be the ultimate test of whether I like this articulation style for my Joes.

Looks alone? Don't care for it.

Amen my brother. I was happy with no articulation below the knee period, with just a simple hinged knee-joint at that. But I do like the chest articulation. Now I'm all for that. I loved it on the Saga Obi-Wan and think it's a no-brainer for Joes.

I know it is too late, but can we NOT discuss the figures most still haven't seen yet?

Gung-Ho is my favorite so far. Does it look like his jacket is removable to anyone else?

The STILL can't put the friggin' guns in their hands correctly! I'm starting to wonder if these figures even CAN hold them correctly.

And while I'm thinking about it, I sure as hell hope they don't do the "rubber band into the hand" crap.

If they do it RAH-style (which is what everyone seems to hope/think), I guess we'll see separate little bubble-areas for the weapons and gear.

OK my opinion on these recently revealed designs:

SNAKE-EYES: Looks exellent! I'm glad they went with the version 1 look rather than the version 2. He doesn't appear to have a sword anywhere on his person. Looks like a commando rather than a ninja. That's a good thing. I can see why a lot of people view this as being the best figure of the lot but seeing as how Snake-Eyes just wears all black it's difficult for me to pick him as a favorite. My only complaint is that his pants look almost a little too wrinkled.

ROADBLOCK: Wow! Great figure. I have no complaints about this figure. One of my favorites so far. I assume the helmet is removable. I wonder if he comes with a pack?

GUNG-HO: This figure is also great. However I do have a few minor complaints. First, maybe it's just the way his vest is but his arms look like they are positioned too low from his shoulders. Second, I still do not feel they have got the mustache right. It was longer on both the version 1 and version 2 Gung-Ho figures. This Gungo-Ho's face looks more like version 3. I do like how they did away with the turquoise camo the original had and replaced it with a military green.

DESTRO: I'm sort of disapointed with Destro here. I'm not really sure what it is. I think it's his eyes. They just went with these green eyes . . . I'd rather he have black eyes with a whiteor green pupil like in the cartoon. The shape of his mask also appears to have been more influenced by the version 3 Destro than the first 2. And while I understand they are actually doing his red collar RIGHT (where it is just red in the inside) I almost wish they would have gone with the big exagerated red collar from the cartoon and version 3 figure. And like all Destro figures I'd have perfered a metallic head rather than a painted one. His accessories are cool though.

COBRA TROOPER: I love me some Blue Shirts! The first thing I noticed about this figure are his hands. The original had blue gloves and the cartoon portrayed them as having no gloves. Here he has black gloves just like an Officer would. Other than that minor nit-pickish compaint I love this figure and it is probably my second favorite so far. His accessories are cool. Just like the original.

COBRA COMMANDER: I'm actually disapointed with this figure. But that's not to say I hate it . . . I just have high stanbdards for CC. I think it looks TOO cartoony. Like it just doesn't fit in with more realistic figures like Gung-Ho. It's the shade of blue I think. I know the Commander wore a lighter shade than the rest of his men but I almost wish they had gone darker this time around. And what's up with that red stripe around his gloves? Seems to be an undeed update to the design. I also was hoping they would have put that white stripe on his helmet (as seen in the original card art and the comics). The way they wrinkled his skirt where it is tucked in looks a bit odd to me too. Despite all this I still like it though.

BARONESS: While Scarlet is one of my favorite new figure the Baroness is just sort of blah. It looks like a great, more detailed update of the original but that's all it is. I think she needs better glasses and maybe a slightly different hair style or something.

As long as there's an equal amount of articulation then it's cool. I think these figures look incredible!

I could care less about the O-ring. As long as this is an improvement to the figures, then I welcome the change. from what I can tell, it looks like you can still achieve a good amount of articulation on these new figures. Truthfully I am amazed at the amount of detail on the characters.

Destro-I agree that the head sould be galvanized chrome with black eyes with a little green cat streak on the eyes.

Baroness-I love the body and the hair; the face is a little too round. Maybe if they sanded down the cheeks and gave her some eye brows she would look better. I also miss the cobras on the forearms of her gloves.

Cobra Commander-The wrinkled lower torso makes the figure look a little strange. I like the red strip around the gloves-shouldn't the pants have a red stripe on the outseide as well? I do wish they would have gone with the GIOJOE (MARVEL) #1 uniform the Cobra Commander wore with the hood and the Gold rope around the shoulder. To me, that is CC's best look.

Gungo Ho-one of my favorites; He needs his trademark handlebar mustache.

Roadblock- loos great, although not my favorite character.

Snake Eyes; He looks really cool. I hope they also make him in his 85-86 version.

Cobra Soldier; Looks Great!

Storm Shadow Looks Amazing! The sandals are actually growing on me!

Duke: Love him! I wish they would have given him the original boots, and I wonder what he looks like without the helmet.

Scarlett: My favorite so far! Best female Joe ever! Maybe they can also release an Undercover Scarlett varient in the future.

Here's hoping for:

11) Flint

12) Lady Jaye

13) Shipwreck

14) Spirit

15) Dusty

16) Zartan

17) Major Bludd

18) Tomax

19) Xamot

20) Stalker

21) Hawk

22) Dr. Mindbender

23) Crimson Guard or Zarana

24) FireFly

25) SnowJob, Flash, or Breaker
