GI Joe fans are a funny bunch. When presented with a new alternative, we're always split down two sides it seems. One side is proclaiming the wonders of the new look, and the other side is constantly nagging about how they don't "fit in" with the Joes from the 80's, or nitpicking them in comparison to our beloved counterparts (and I'll admit I've fallen on both sides).

I've never once seen another toyline create so much controversy. When the new MOTU line was introduced in '02, I don't remember one person saying "THOSE WON'T MESH WITH MY OLD MOTU...WHAT GOOD ARE THEY?!?!" When the new Marvel figures made their appearance, first in the SMC line, and then in ML, I don't recall anyone singing praises of what Toybiz had brought us in the past with the Marvel franchise. Hell, I don't even collect Transformers, and rarely read the boards, but I doubt Transfans instantly throw new lines under the bus claiming the original Transformers are superior in every way.

I know RAH was untouchable in it's day, and very ahead of it's time. I spent many of my childhood years with nothing but GI Joe on my mind. I wish it was still alive and good, in every way it was back then. Getting new figures, in the vintage style, would be nice, but we all know the likelyhood of that happening is slim to none. So, we're left sucking the Sigma Six tittie, and praying that 3 3/4 inch isn't dead forever. Then come the 25th anniversary figures.

From what we've seen so far, these are EXACTLY the same figures we remember and love...just in a different style, with more detail. Yet the same old issues come up..."these won't fit in with my 3 3/4" line"..."the articulation is subpar"..."no O-ring"...blah, blah, wah, wah.

Guys, vintage RAH is D E A D. I wish it wasn't so...but we all know it is, even though some of us haven't come to grips with it yet. Yes, we're given treats here and there...kind of like the way you'd throw a fresh hunk of meat to a starving dog...but it's just to keep us satisfied, and from abandoning the line entirely (save the 2nd hand market).

Hasbro is giving a great majority of us what we've all been hoping for...the same thing many of us wished JvC would be...incredibly detailed, and articulated representations of the classic icons of many of our childhoods. How can you not love this? I haven't been this excited about GI Joe in a long, LONG time. Now that I think about it, I've been more active on the GI Joe boards over the last two days than I've been in the last two years. It just feels really awesome to be a GI Joe fan again.

Anyways, just curious what everyone thinks of what we've been given so far, and what place these figures will find in everyone's collections.

I gotta disagree a bit. I do recall many MOTU fans complaining about the new looks at first and how many times have there been debates from TFans about how great G1 is and such. So these squables aren't really that unique to just GIJoe. Though I will say so far this new 25th line is probablly the most well recieved new GIJoe line I have seen, there are a few who seem to be determined not to like it but overall feedback has been very positive so far.

Well, like I said, TF isn't really my thing, so I was kind of going out on a limb there. @lol@

But, I don't recall any unrest on the MOTU boards over the new look versus the old. I just remember everyone talking about how cool the new stuff looked. @hmmm@

Well, I'm not saying that because they won't mesh with the old ones, they're crap. I think they're great. I just can't see displaying them with the other lines, that's all. That doesn't make them bad. It just makes them different. And like I said, I still like them. I think SS is awesome. I think Duke is so-so. I think someone trying to do a diostory would have a hard time using that SS with the other Joes even though that would be my definitive SS. Now, before anyone gets on their soapbox, I know that these are being made for the masses, and that they can't please everyone, and that the collectors are a relatively small niche in the larger retail scheme of things. I do think that these are looking like great products that will be bought up by anyone interested in Joe (with the exception of ViperHunter), myself included. I will probably just display them seperately is all. And even that is speculatory until I get them in my hands. I could completely change my mind once I put these babies next to other figures in my collection. So, yes, I like them. I think they're great. But, yeah, I don't think (for now) they will mesh well with anything made before them.

Also, it's hard to say wether I love them or if they're just OK until I see more than just two figures. As I said, I think SS is the best thing since sliced bread, but I think Duke is just OK. So I won't vote just yet. The jury's still out for me.

Damn dude, you couldn't do this BEFORE we saw the pics?

Come on, how can you objectively decide on whether you like them or hate them or whatever based on ONE pic!

I'd AT least wait for one of the General's reviews or something first, if not until you get them yourself.

Better question would be:

Are you going to buy at least one to see how the are in hand?

So that means we SHOULD be getting version 1 Snake Eyes and NOT version 2, right? @firedevil@

Maybe he didn't consider Snake Eyes a "great one" until his second figure. :P

Okay, anyone that remembers me, knows that I am a fan since I was a lil girl. I still think that the RAH line was the greatest toy line ever. From the figures, to their back stories, the card back, the vehicles, everything was perfect!!

Since then I have been dissapointed in most of the GI JOE lines since then! I have always wanted a proper update, and since seeing the ML custom Joes, I have seen what could be done with the original designs! Hasbr has listened!! And I thank them!!

To see people actually complain that they won't mesh well with their previous figures is asinine!! This is 2007, not 1987. Guys, it's been 25 years. Stop holding on to the past! I love my memories and the figures I still have, but come on, who gives a rats behind if they don't mesh!! Start a new shelf in your parent's basement!! @loll@ This line is exactly what many of us have wanted, a updated look, using the classic uniforms. I don't want to see Devil's Due costumes, nor Sigma Six outfits. I want to see the classic 1982-91 GI JOE A Real American Hero, but for the 21st century!!! And we now have them!!

My only question, where are the vehicles? Don't cheap out on us and give us rehashed 80's vehicles!! I want to see a brand new Rattler!!! @yipee@

Wanna know how to make these new figures ultimately better than all of RAH? Make a version like this of ALL the RAH figures! @loll@

I'm really impressed with Both Stormshadow and Duke.....though I'm not digging Duke quite as much as Stormshadow. :)

I don't understand the not blending in thing, Like if they did them 6 inches i could see people saying they don't fit in with all my stuff, but there still 3 3/4... with a few more points of articulation. I've never heard ML collectors or star wars collectors say oh i can't get the new ML/SW figures cause they have more articulation than the ML/SW figures from last year. It's a bizzare rationalization i don't understand.

I've never even thought the new sculpt figures before this ever meshed with vintage stuff at all.

I keep all of my vintage figures on a few shelves, then i put the new sculpt stuff on some shelves. And i'm gonna make a new shelf for these.

I actually think these would look okay with some of the later new sculpt joes, but I wouldn't put them together, because these are clearly all classic versions of the character, and most of the new sculpt stuff has been modern designs. But i probably will throw the comic pack cover girl into the new 25.

I think a more proper coraltion would be Star Wars collectors tring to combine their vintage Kenner figures with the modern say VOTC Hasbro figures. They just wouldn't go well together on the same shelf. But thats why you have one shelf dedicated to vintage stuff and another to new stuff.

Articulation has nothing to do with hit. They don't LOOK similar.

The RAH figures had a...uniformity of look (disregarding the garish colors on some). The new sculpts did, to an extent, as well (even considering Barrage and such). But they were similar enough to each other to mesh, for the most part.

These new figures are quite dramatically different. Lets not forget we don't have any actual comparison pictures either. What if these guys are all 4 or 5 inches tall?

Well, based on TWO pics, I can already tell I'm gonna like them if they continue this with the rest of the line.

I highly doubt they'd show us these two, and then show us a bunch of crap.

I've noticed you're one of the people that seems to be pretty harsh on every little friggin detail. What WOULD please you? Myself, this is exactly what I've been hoping for, and I'm excited about it.

Excuse me for having something new, GI Joe related, to be interested in, and be giddy about?
