Ok...at first I was really excited because I didn't expect Hasbro to release any pics this early. Wow. Then, like every other G.I. Joe fan in recent years, I began nit-picking and finding things wrong. (How did we all become so critical of every little teeny-tiny detail? Well, that's a big argument for a whole other thread, but anyway...) My eyes immediately went to those double-jointed knees. I'm split on the decision to include this kind of joint because I was afraid that, since Hasbro was incorporating Toybiz's construction practices in their Marvel Legends line, they would start applying it to G.I. Joes. And I didn't want that, because, although I understand why they're doing it (innovating articulation yet again for a figure line well-know in the past for it's groundbreaking articulation and appeal), in my humble opinion, where articulation is concerned, less is more. I feel like more joints leads to less of a given figure's ability to be posed and stand on its own. But on the other hand, I don't play with these things. Playing with toys with this much articulation would be a blast. And this kind of articulation lends itself well to the type of character Storm Shadow is; a ninja that leaps and hyper-extends limbs in deadly fashion in order to use his weapons properly.

So the bottom line is this: there's not gonna be a G.I. Joe figure line that's gonna be perfect for me, or as perfect as RAH was to me back in its hey-day. So I just take the new stuff as it comes. I can take it or leave it. But like I said I don't play with them, and I don't customize them. And...I have very few RAH figures, so they're all still like new to me. And I can see where there are other collectors that have been there, done that, and they want something new on par with the older (better?) stuff. I understand that.

But I am very excited and interested to see where this line goes. Fun stuff...

Thank you Hasbro and thank you for taking the kiddy gloves off and giving the collectors what we've wanted for SO long (at least most of us).

This is what the new sculpt GI Joe is all about!I love the articulation, I love the design...once I get this figure in my hands, this will be my definitive Storm Shadow. I especially can't wait to see more (SNAKE EYES AND CC!) and I hope they end up showing some more.

I know some of you gripe about wanting geniune RAH...but honestly, I could care less. RAH had its time, it's been done and over and Hasbro has been giving you little bits and pieces of it for the best years. I got all I want and now I just want to see *new* stuff from Hasbro instead....just...like...THIS!

It's an exciting time to be a Joe fan again.

You know the thing is... I'm still not done with RAH, and I'm going to continue to buy vintage stuff from Ebay, and probably a lot of what Master Collector decides to put out. And I think it's safe to say that we haven't seen the last of RAH reissues from Hasbro, either, to be quite honest, because they seem to do well as store exclusives.

I'd rather have my RAH stuff and this, than have my RAH stuff and the half-arsed new sculpt stuff they've been putting out in the past.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying; RAH was and is great to me for obvious reasons, but...why not something new? Nothing will ever take away what I feel about RAH, nor to I want or expect anything to do so like others might. It's the same mentality I have with Sigma 6; it's ALL G.I. Joe, whether it's RAH, GvsC, Sgt. Savage, or Sigma 6. RAH may have been (is?) the gold standard for MY generation, but...I also like variety. That's all.

Oh if it has no o-ring*and appears not to* i'll be one happy camper, thats the thing i've ALWAYS hated about the Joe line, the stinken O-Rings, in this day and age there is no need for that kinda of construction on a figure, ML style hips and a waist swivle and a torso joint is all ya need and atm that looks like what this has so screw old school o-rings, time for Joes to be GREAT figures :P

Maybe I've just got a different sort of mentality when it comes to my GI Joe collection, but I've got no problem with seperating my collection into different styled figures. I've got all my RAH figures in one section, the new-sculpt figures in one section, and the comic pack figures in another section. Sure they're all 3 3/4" GI Joes, but they're all stylistically different and each has its own charm for me.

Nothing can ever replace or replicate the original 1982 - 1994 RAH figures, and I'm OK with that. I see the 25th Anniversary figures as a tribute to those figures in the same way the Star Wars VOTC figures were a tribute to the original Star Wars figures.

The 25th Anniversary figures will have their own seperate space in my collection, and I see them as kind of a "Hall of Fame" representing the best of RAH.

I'm no artist, sculptor, engineer, or any other sort of "expert", save for the many years and many dollars I've devoted to my various figure collections. I think I'm a fairly ardent 3 3/4" GI Joe collector, and Ive got no problem with what I've seen as a glimpse into the 25th Anniversary line via the Storm Shadow figure. An o-ring by itself does not a GI Joe make - there have been plenty of other 3 3/4" figures made with o-ring articulation. I really like the Marvel Superhero Showdown figures, even given some figures' propensity towards losing a limb.

Sufficed to say, as a 20+ year GI Joe collector I will be picking up these figures if the Storm Shadow prototype is indicative of the rest of the line. If anyone doesn't like them, that's just one less person I have to fight with in the aisles to get these for myself.

please don't compare these to superheroshowdown, those are p.o.s. (i have a black spidey and parts fall off him if i stare at him funny) while this looks great.

That's my one and only concern. I bought my first (and last) showdown fig yesterday, a Cap America on clearence at K Mart. Straight out of the package one arm is loose and the other's ball joint falls right out of the socket, so no holding onto his shield. Complete garbage.

Hopefully there's some kind of quality that goes into these new Joe's construction, because they look really great so far.

Impressive.

The articulation isn't as overdone as I feared it would be, although the torso/chest needs to be "examined" as it looks like there something going on there but it is hard to tell

The forearms articulation is interesting. If the joint stays firmer than the wrists, I don't have much trouble with it. But in the pic, it looks like his hands are going to fall off. That seam is HUGE. It will be enteresting to see how that plays with other figures that have bear arms (if there be any).

The head/neck works better here than "neckless" Cover Girl.

Think the arrows are removable? And is there a peg hole in the back for the backpack or is the backpack "held on" with the strap across his chest?

THE HANDS! Those are some freaky looking hands! It looks to me like they were designed to hold guns a little more realistically. I sure as hell hope so because, when they have done weird hands like that in the past, it tends to backfire and the figure can't hold their weapon at all.

Yeah...I'm sure glad Hasbro made ANOTHER G.I.Joe hater happy, by dumping our style for theirs.

Who knew we were buying crap all these years?

Honestly I would rather the o-ring. I think the reason is because when you turn the waist it doesnt look like his bones were broken, lol. But it's all good. We'll see how it goes down. I love the look of this Figure honestly

Throw your other Storm Shadows in the trash.

For those with a complete v1 with no yellowing, the trash is

heh, I was just being over dramatic of course. Plus my v1 Storm Shadow is missing some of his weapons.

I'm wondering who in this particular thread, has been griping about "wanting genuine RAH"?

I'm about the ONLY one griping about anything on this particular figure, and it's not been because it's not "genuine RAH". It's because it looks stupid....to me.

Details are nice, paint apps look to be great, but...as we've seen in the past, when they're trying hard to add extra articulation points, the symmetry and proportions of the figure get sacrificed, and there's odd looking bends and deformed appearances of the appendages on these things, and this SS has plenty of them. His arms and legs AND O-ringLESS crotch, all look like hell.

It's nothing to do with glory days, and "genuine RAH" wet dreams.....it's all about the figures and how they look NOW.

I give the preview shot a thumbs down.....at this juncture! ;)

I keep going back and looking at the picture, and I just can't believe how awesome this figure is!

I haven't been this excited about anything GI Joe related in quite some time. I'm really anxious to see the other figs!

wow...WOW...wow.

I can't find anything to really complain about. I hope we get a Destro, Baroness, and Viper like this.

Only thing I don't like is this rumor about them being sold in 5-packs instead of single carded figures. That's going to make army building impossible.

I seem to be the ONLY guy here griping on this figure, and people are throwing the whole damn lot of us under the bus.

I hate THIS figure, have expressed as much...

and suddenly it's "RAH IS DEAD....GET OVER IT!!" @grumpy@

Almost like it's a scripted response to ANY negativity expressed towards the 25th anniversary figures.

Because it's DIFFERENT...doesn't make it automatically good, at least not to me. I don't want RAH carbon copies pooped out with slight paint variances on them, been there, and done all that.

I do want something new and better, but this ain't it...as far as I can tell so far.

I wouldn't consider RAH to be a perfect representation of the human body either; If it was, we all would have big heads, huge sagging behinds, gigantic hands, and smaller lower legs.

I think beauty is in the eyes of the beholder whether or not we are bias because of nostaga.
