FIRST OFFICIAL MENTION OF 25th ANNIVERSARY LINE!!!

Sure is alot of negative vibe here. No way can they be worse than the Transformer movie figs. At least we can take pride in that and gloat to the TF fans!

Let's look at the facts: same scale, most detailed (how is this bad?), and most articulated ever. This doesn't mean they are new construction necessarily. It could be ankle, mid thigh, and wrist articulation for everyone. With all the hype we've been getting from Hasbro employees on this, it has got to be a winning combination.

Well, it's good there's something coming.

Beyond that...there's absolutely nothing there but an official corporate press release. Nothing to poop yer panties over, people. @smilepunch@

the only way these will work is if they are exact remakes of vintage joes but with added articulation.

-saboteur

hmm, that sure seams a bit biased, presumptuous, and ignorant.

Biased in that exact remakes with added articulation seems to be want you want, not neccessarily what the toy buying public wants.

Presumptuous in that it presumes the toy buying public only wants exactly what you want and that is the only way they will work.

Ignorant in that you, in fact, don't know what they toy buying public wants, only what you want, which ties back into biased and presumptuous.

the point is that you, in fact, don't know the only way these figures will work, just what you would prefer them to be. I'm not quite sure how one can logically attempt to correlate those two entirely different dynamics.

It would be awesome if all the weapons and accessories like backpacks were painted as well.

Hasbro was actually moving to that trend with DTC, in fact, many wave 4 accessories featured painted stocks and such.

I think we'll see an evolved new sculpt design that drops the oring, but keeps the articulation with all the bells and whistles we've seen in wave 7/DTC figures like Barrage, along with Star Wars figures like the ball knees and ankles.

I KNOW the selection will be Joe heavy, as it was at retail and in the 80s, which means favorite Cobra characters will probaly be the first to be axed.

But I think it is safe to say if we've seen a character used more than 3 times since the start of the newsculpt line, or used in Sigma Six (minus new guys), we'll probably see them in the 25th line.

That's right! Detail and articulation? Who wants that?

Man, I'll never understand this line of thinking. Nothing could EVER be better than the originals?

Plus, you're making a pretty gross generalization based on your taste.

I disagree. Hasbro has pretty much tried doing new designs with the classic characters for the past 5-6 years, and it never really took off until Sigma Six. Doing figures in 3 3/4" scale for an Anniversary line, well... really the only logical choice is do base it off the original designs. I'm not saying they'll be RAH-style construction with a few added points of articulation, and I don't think that's what Sab meant either... The way I see it, is they'll likely be superior sculpts of the old RAH character designs, but more or less compatible with the o-ringed figures we've seen so far - they'll have added swivel wrist and swivel ankle articulation and possibly hinged feet as well, like we've seen on the VOTC Stormtrooper and other SW army-builders, for example. It'd probably be a bad move if Hasbro made any drastic changes to traditional GI Joe articulation points (ie: change the o-ringed waist or swivel arms to ball-joints, for example) because that'd alienate fans and be kind of a waste of time anyway, because it wouldn't improve articulation, just change it for change's sake.

The old designs are a given. Hasbro has done it for both the Star Wars and Transformers lines, to great success.

Yeah, I'm with you, pretty much. They've learned their lesson with regards to the whole o-ringed thing, and a completely new constrution type wouldn't make sense for an Anniversary line meant to appeal to older fans and work as an alternative to the whole Sigma Six thing.

Now if they re-release the Sunbow cartoon series on DVD and make a formal announcement of a live-action movie at around the same time, I think the hype might really take off...

I hope they throw us a cool RAH store-exclusive or two as well...

Cant wait to see pics.

I like that its a huge number, I was really expecting a box set of maybe 12 total figures.

Really looking forward to it.

I wonder if Toy Fair will show it off.

well what ever we get this is awsome news and i cant wait to see what they have comming. it will be new sculpt and thats a fact.

i just hope to see some cool names come out of it. the figs will rock. we all dont agree on what joe is so we all wont be happy but this feels like the last chance for joes before they give us the AXE in the 3 3/4in line. ill buy 3 of every fig.

I just hope they're not gorilla-proportioned plastic-rivet JvsC-type figures.

I would like to see reissues close to the originals but not exactly (like the Viper 6-pack). Vintage-style cards would also be a major plus.

Of course the basics (Duke, Skane Eyes, Storm Shadow) will be there, no matter how sick I am of seeing those three.

Biased in that exact remakes with added articulation seems to be want you want, not neccessarily what the toy buying public wants.

Let's see what would sell better: a restored V.1 BAT or V.2 Snake Eyes, or another new version.

the only way these will work is if they are exact remakes of vintage joes but with added articulation.

I want remakes, but not exact, like the Viper 6-pack. I'd like to see another V.1 Baroness in black and with original head and not the crappy new head, but with silver Cobra emblem and silver gauntlets to make her more cartoon-accurate. Another thing that could be done is use the Crimson Guard body, repainted blue for a V.1-type Cobra Commander.

Personally I would like to see the rest of the original comic packs as well as DD Serpentor. It is excitting to guess what we might see and aparently someone at Toy Fair magazine said that these are the best GIJOE figures ever scene, think SW anniversary or OTC collection..... hummmm.

I'm soooo excited... i kinda feel dirty!

Hopefully it will be barrage style arms and head with sw style swivel ankles and knees. I would actually prefer pte legs rather than 0-ring but many people wouldn't get over the lack of the 0-ring so i could take it too.

I do fear that the ml showdown will be the base and they just simply had too much articulation for the size. I loath double knee and elbow joints! also while a mid torso joint might seem nice it hurts the lookk more than it helps the articulation. Also i prefer not to see ... balls @loll@ well y'know that the arms and legs go on.

I do hope they keep the screw in the back.

okay since everyone else is doing it... my 25 (based more on my guess of what would sell than want i'd actually want ie dd serpy and wraith) :

1. Duke

2. Hawk

3. Scarlet

4. Se

5. Stalker

6. Roadblock

7. Lady J

8. Flint

9. Wild Bill

10. Tunnel Rat

11. Dusty

12. Shipwreck (although i doubt it will be my preferred ddp version :( )

13. Ace

14. Gung-HO

Cobra:

15. cc himself

16 baroness

17 destro

18 stormy

19 zartan

20 buzzer

21 Firefly

22 major bludd

23 cobra viper

24 cobra trooper

25 cobra officer

Some even if re done masterfully i wouldn't buy again, but that's not true for all. Even with a custom duke i'd love a new one, i could always toss the parts back to fodder. I really wish i could say i think we would get a zander, but just highly doubt it.

im pretty excited (like everyone else) about the possibilities that lay ahead with the 25th anny line. my biggest hopes for these is that they go with the "classic" look for the figures picked (generally v1 colors and uniforms).

the thing im most concerned about is the cost. especially if they do something along the lines of the star wars VOTC. those were $10 each! that make $250 to get them all!

i'd love a falcon but i'd say their are several joes in front of him. He was definatly one i'd want over say, a classic shipwreck but i doubt we will get him.

as for cost i'd say 6 would be be fair so i'm betting they will charge about 8

We've been getting hype from Hasbro? This is the first official mention! Besides, anything "unofficial" before that...just said the same stuff.

And all that detail and articulation means more $$$ per figure.

I think this kinda fits.

The "negative vibes" comes from the stupid things we've seen Hasbro do with G.I. Joe in the past. What fan wouldn't be at least a little put off?

My thoughts: I'm excited. I'd like to see the older plastic but on new sculpts, and to fix the problem of broken thumbs I'd prefer them to have the softer plastic of the newer figures for their hands. And that goes back to the articulation I'd prefer; classic construction but with the swivel wrists, with maybe the chest articulation like the Saga Collection Obi-Wan figure.

My wants (I can't resist...):

Duke

Snake-Eyes

Roadblock

Shipwreck

Flint

Dial Tone

Low-Light

Gen. Hawk

Scarlett

Beach Head

Stalker

Dusty

Gung-Ho

Spirit

Cobra Commander

Viper

Zartan

Destro

Baroness

Firefly

Serpentor

Tomax

Xamot

Major Bludd

Storm Shadow

Weren't we, originally, getting Falcon in Wave 4 (along with the Cobra Officer)? We've seen the other four (Airtight, Munitia, Outback and Night Viper)...but nothing for Falcon and the Officer. Maybe the pulled them to "update" them (especially since nobody really LIKED Falcon, from what we saw)?

As far as the articulation issue....I'm not a big fan of the EXCESS crap, like swivel thighs, hinged ankles or swivel boots.

Any acceptable deviation (for me) from the articulation features of the '85-'94 Joes, would be the swivel wrists. Everything else distracts from the figure and usually requires a skin-tight spandex looking outfit (like S6) to allow for the extra points of articulation.

Only Super Hero's wear that crap and of course Sigma Six Joes! @grumpy@

All that articulation on a military soldier, in fatigues, looks like crap (imo) and not EVERY Joe is a ninja.

Just squat and hold your weapon right is good enough for me....oh, and sit properly in a vehicle! @cool@

I'll sum up my feelings by saying I'm cautiously optimistic about this announcement. Twemty-five figures, if they're all unique sculpts, could cover a lot.

Some figures need to be slightly modernized versions of their 'definitive' look: Duke, Hawk, Storm Shadow. Some, like Destro, could use an amalgam of two or more designs. I'd like to see Cobra Commander in an outfit very similar to what he wore in the first Devil's Due run, same for Shipwreck (long sleeves and a full beard this time around!). And I'd still like to see the "Reloaded" version of Doc in figure form.

@loll@

I guess if you want to take my opinion as doctrine you can. Just to let you know, my opinion is not what is necessarily true...just my opinion. chill

IMO these should be on the same lines of the votc line...original packaging, original style figures with added articulation.

Once again, thats MY OPINION. This is a forum, right?? we are allowed to voice our opinions, right???

and is it biased??? YES i'm a gi joe collector of vintage and new and i like vintage better than the new stuff they've been putting out. big deal.

Presumptuous? Yes, i guess so, as the VOTC line has done well, and hasbro seems to be putting out waves of those, it would make sense for the TWENTY FIFTH anniversary of the RAH line to be based on RAH figures.

Ignorant?? seems like you're the ignorant one with poor reading comprehension skills...but once again if you want to take a personal opinion to heart as a fact, go for it man. @dunce@

that's right! Detail and articulation? Who wants that?

you are completely right, i did post that with my taste in mind...once again...my opinion. I personally dont care about articulation. Thats just the way i feel. Am i wrong for feeling that way?? The most articulated joes ever seems to me like the look and feel of the 33/4 gi joe would be sacraficed for obscure articulation... once again, MY OPINION.

I think one key thing to keep in mind is that because this is the 25th Anniversary RAH Collection that these figures will be geared towards and primarily aimed at the LONG-TIME FANS AND COLLECTORS.

I'm not expecting to see silly designs and bright colors like VvV because those were aimed at kids. At least...I hope not!
