Man, I need to get back into comics

I was looking some comic characters up on Wikipedia, and noticed that one of my favorites, Venom, is now the guy that used to be the Scorpion. That seems pretty dumb to me. And I read about Eddie Brock auctioning off the costume, and the gangster's son who was deemed an unfit host by the symbiote. Maybe I shouldn't get back into comics. Seems to me that they just ruined my favorite character. Venom will always be Eddie Brock to me. And I liked the McFarlane era Venom the best. Before he got the huge tongue and drool all over the place. I dealt with it, but don't think I'll be able to deal with these major changes. I don't like them one bit. Does anyone else feel the same about this, or am I alone?

it was a decent story, but having Gargan as Venom is still a bit weird. He seems to have a lot of control the symbiote and at times hs manifested a tail. But i think Eddie will be back soon enough. They always come back

Glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks this way. Man, I wish they would give us a super-articulate "origins" Venom some day.

And yeah, the thing about the Scorpion is wierd. I was doing the same thing as you (Wikipedia is great when you are bored) and I was kinda shocked as well. The new Venom certainly looks freaky...

My idea is that with the "Back in Black" (and Spider-man 3)hype the Marvel is building (Spidey returns to his black costume) that Parker may regain the symbiote and learn to "control" it (even hiding the fact its the symbiote from Aunt May and Mary Jane) only to find out later on that Brock is alive and the symbiote was just tricking Parker as some big plot for the original Venom to come back

To me, the definitive picture of Venom will always be the cover of AS #316. To me, that is what Venom should always look like. Sometimes, change isn't always good. Bagley tried to take Venom back to that look, but his head always looked weird to me.

Man I was just thinking the same thing the other day the only real Venom is Eddie Brock, if they did not want to write more stories about Venom's Eddie Brock than they should have done what they did with Toxin, Toxin worked out his differences with his symbiote and returned to his family to be a cop again and fight crime and he has quietly disappered. It seems that every time there's a new writer or Marvel gets bored they change the personality and beliefs of the character along with the character's originality. Next thing you know the Hulk will be purple and will only transform if he is sad and cries and the Punisher will no longer believe in the death penalty and that killers and rapist deserve a second chance. @smilepunch@

I gotta throw my vote in too; I'm sick of the bulging, slobbery Venom. Those are the only figures we get (except in the Sinister 6 pack which I never wanted to buy to get one figure that I wanted). Then of course, I hear about the Origin's line with a "spidey VS Venom" two pack to find that crappy old mold with his chunk of tounge sticking out.

In terms of the comic: I haven't been reading for years. Mostly because it's hard to keep up. You miss one or two and suddenly you're lost. Last place I was in the story was somewhere around Spidey and Mary Jane patching things up after her "death". Sometimes I wana pick one up but there's always something going on that i don't wana get in the middle of. First there was that whole thing with Spider Man turning into a spider (doesn't he have natural web shooters now....and some arm spikes? Bleh.) and then the Civil War started up, which is a great idea but I didn't get there from the start and I don't wana pick it up in the middle.

Yeah, mostly I'm good just hearing about what's going on.

my fav venom was from the erik larson era. the drool and giant mouth were great. sad to say no figure has really captured that look. the venoms by toybiz don't really interest me at all. the best venom toy out there is the marvel select one and has a decent base too.

as for the comics, i got out a long time ago and glad i did with the sh*t writing going on. iron spidey, WTF! venom selling the symbiote? AGAIN WTF!!!!!!!!

Of all the people they could give the Venom symbiote to, they went with Scorpion?!? I didn't read that story so I don't want to judge it, but the notion of Scorpion as Venom is Super Lame to me.

I did like the early Eric Larson Venom. I've just never liked the tongue version.

As for the other things, it seems to me like the writers are better suited at writing wrestling shows. Most of the stuff nowadays seems like it's all set up for shock value, and not much more. Some hyped up story that lasts a few issues, and then is quickly forgotten and buried. I do like the look of Venom now, but it's still just not the same. I would rather have had some no name take over for Eddie Brock, and have Venom look the same, than have Scorpion take over as Venom. I could see their line of thinking as far as scorpions and venom, but I don't see this guy ever reaching the level of the original Venom. I still think Brock will be back, and then Venom will finally come full circle, and be right back where he should have been in the first place.
