Classics Bumblebee and Starscream

Well, I got BB and SS for Christmas, and I love them both.

However, you know I can't resist modding my TFs... ;)

First, Bumblebee's eyes; for whatever reason, Hasbro molded his eyes as a seperate piece. They further molded them in clear plastic, but didn't bother to go all the way and provide light-piping for them. I gave his face a new coat of silver, getting rid of his yellow-rimmed eye sockets, the yellow stripe across the bridge of his nose and the yellow "chin-strap" thing.

I can't do anything about the light-piping ATM, but I COULD do something about their color:

I coated the eye piece with clear blue; these pics are of me holding the front half of his head with tweezers under my work light. (Mine was clear, frosted plastic, but Wingus told me his had an amber tint. Make of that what you will.. *shrug*)

So far, my only ideas for the light-piping problem are trying to recast at least the front half of his head in clear/clear-blue plastic and paint it yellow and silver, allowing for space to transfer light to his eyes; the other idea is using some pieces of sprue from the clear-parts tree of one of my models and gluing them to the back of the eye piece, then drilling corresponding holes in the back of his head for them to take in light.

I've got a lot of touch-up painting to do on Starscream, but the first thing I felt the need to do was remount his null-ray cannons on his forearms instead of his shoulders, 'cause they really hinder posability up there.

As for my paint touch-ups.. anybody happen to know the names of the red/burgandy and blue colors he's got?

So how did you do it?

I took his arms off (just a screw through the back of his shoulder), marked the spot for the new hole, then used my drill with a 16/34" bit.

It's less than a hair larger than the launchers' posts, so they were slightly loose, but a little clear nail polish on the posts and the holes fixed that right up.

There's actually a circle on the inside of his forearm, which is what I was aiming for, but the drill bit slipped on the first try, so the hole ended up slightly lower than I'd intended. Luckily, it turned out to be exactly where the hole needed to be to make the launcher match up evenly with the top and bottom edges of his forearms.

All I had to do after that was hold the arms together (backs of fists facing each other) with the help of a piece of scotch tape and mark the other other through the new hole. After that, I just had to drill the matching hole.
