Is this the new Fantastic Four?

Yea, I agree with you there. The FF is a family with a specific roster, and not a revolving door team like the avengers or the x men. Temps may come and go, but the FF are the FF. I am however plesently surprised to see the Thing on the team and at the forefront(leader?). Here is an article I saw on some message boards last night to shed some extra light on this.

FANTASTIC FOUR #544

by Dwayne McDuffie & Paul Pelletier

Cover by Michael Turner! In the aftermath of “Civil War” comes “Reconstruction,” the beginning of a stunning new era of fantastic adventure! With Reed and Sue taking a leave to work out their marital problems, it’s up to Ben and Johnny — and two new auxiliary team members — to carry on the fight!

32pgs, FC..........$2.99

They took it down shortly after, but I got the scoop first.

On that note after reading you're post I find that sorta interesting since BP & storm are the hot new couple in the MU! They are family!! I wouldn't have really clued into that aspect untill reading you're post here :) So they are family they are just not related at all to ben/torchie :D

So maybe thats why they were picked or what not to be new ff members out of all the rest of the mu...

I duno who else in the MU out there is really hitched with one other other than cyclops and emma but like them and most others I think they have far to much bagage for a book like this, where as storm and BP are sorta a fresh start with out too much bagage on them :) Sureee you could jump in and say peter and MJ but for one MJ has no powers, & for two who knows how much longer they will last! Plus spidey was recently just on the avengers if he is/will be on any team again so soon it would just seem like over use & hype to use him...

Anybody else remember the New Fantastic 4. They debuted during Heroes Reborn. With Spidey,Ghost Rider, Wolverine, and Grey Hulk. That didn't last long

Was that not some weird future version of them or some such?.. I remember reading one of those and peter was all jumping about with out his mask on

Whoa wait... a team without Marvel's cashcow Wolverine on it? Impressive. No wonder it failed. Probably needed more Wolverine. Lol :P

Edit: Man I'm drowsy. I re-read and noticed Wolverine was on that team. LOL.

I thought I saw something that hinted She-Hulk was taking Thing's place again since he left the country during Civil War?

Still...very cool, the Fantastic Four are one of the few well-known super-teams that very rarely have had any roster shake-ups...I don't think I know of a time (besides the whole Wolvey,Spidey, etc. thing) when Mr.Fantastic,Invisible Woman, and Human Torch were NOT on the team.

Good to see Panther and Storm in the forefront too.

Looks like Michael Turner is the hot new cover artists, I like his style (though he could do some variations with the faces and not everyone within the interior art has to look like supermodels) and it's been awesome lately to see him pitch in on DC and Marvel comics.

thing never really did leave... how ever some how I think he has managed to stay out of it all dispite the fact that other super heros who have tryed to leave the u.s. have been hunted down like dogs... go figure :S

Monsters Unleashed the story you are refering to was a one off joke storyline (3 issues) from the early 90's prior to Heroes Reborn During Walt Simonsons run on FF (Art by Art Adams) it was supposed to be a slightly silly but fun story using marvels most popular characters of the time (Hulk replaced the punisher) which it was. It was collected in X-men Visionaries: Art Adams.

Actually, the FF has had a "revolving-door" membership since the 1960's.

Crystal (from the Inhumans) filled-in for Sue after Sue gave birth to Franklin (yes, Franklin was born in the 60's and SHOULD be pushing 40 by now...but in "Marvel-Time", he's still a toddler...). This change to Crystal lasted for at least a year. Of course, this was the 1960's, when the idea of a woman abandoning her work for a baby wasn't "shocking" to our PC sensisbilities.

In the 1970's, Crystal's sister Medusa filled-in for Sue for several issues, and uber-babe amazon-warrior Thundra (I would LOVE a Thundra-Legend!) even filled-in for Ben Grimm a few times. Ben took another hiatus from the team in '76, and Luke Cage joined the team for about 5-6 issues (although he never got a powder-blue, open-neck pirate shirt with a big #4 on it...bummer!).

In the 80's, Ms. Marvel was a member of the FF for a long time (I wasn't reading in the 80's, so I'm vague on details), as was She-Hulk.

So it's not actually a new thing. In general, I'm not against it, I just don't like the proposed line-up.
