Sigma 6 (the toys)...a year later

In the beginning, I had an opening mind about Sigma 6 but truthfully, I was dedicated to the 3.5. At first, I was skeptical about the figures but after time, I started to grow a liking to them. But when there were announcments of more variations of the figures, I admit...it's not what I wanted to hear. And with the many reruns of the cartoon and the scheduling of the animated series, to tell you the truth...I didn't know what to think.

I believe it's been a year or almost a year when I started with Sigma 6 and although I haven't started with the 2.5 (because if I did...I would drive myself crazy trying to get everything), with the 8"... I admit that I dig it a lot.

Today, I was looking at Destro. And you know...this is the frikkin best Destro that I have ever seen. And with each variation...especially DUKE...as mentioned, I was put off by hearing more variations of him but essentially, there is a signficant difference with each DUKE...I thought it would be like SOTA Street Fighter or Transformers...repaints and a little bit of accessories and boom...that was your figure. Not even.

I know many of you are die-hards with the 3.5. I am still a die-hard but seeing the upcoming ZARTAN, Cobra commander and just seeing this latest Commando series. I'm actually quite happy with the series.

I definitely would like to see more different characters. A female character...if it can't be retail...then do it as a Hasbro Toy Store exclusive. Because I want a Scarlet and a Baroness and a few others.

I haven't picked up the vehicles (like the motorcyles) nor the Duke on the ATV (yet).

But...just wanted to see what others thoughts on the S6 toys a year later.

I allways thought this line would do quite well, I'm glad to see more and more people get sucked into it. Though does anyone know just how well this line is actually doing?.. The tv series kinda sucks but the toys are great fun!! Whats up with the series as well?.. I don't think I have seen a new episode in a long time...

From a pure sculpting and tooling standpoint, the line has already grown by leaps and bounds in the last year. Just compare Heavy Duty Flamethrower's headsculpt to the standard one and you can already see such huge differences:

Not to mention Long Range w/ Desert Gear:

So, even from purely a technical standpoint, this line has really grown and matured. As far as the storyline goes, Sigma 6 continues to draw me in in ways that the 3 3/4" line couldn't even do in the last couple of years. There's a story here...a certain character that some of the later releases were lacking in 3 3/4".

I'm not saying that I prefer the larger scale, not at all...but Sigma 6 over the past year has developed it's own identity and it's own sense of fun, which is vital to a line's success. I'm VERY happy with how it's gone over the past year, and almost giddy thinking about what's to come. I think next year's holiday season will be incredible.

I'm quite happy on how the line is turning out... I mean, look what we'll be gettig in the next couple months, at first, I was a bit thrown off with the multiple Dukes and SEs... but some of them are so well done, you cant help but like them. I personally cant wait to get my hands on Destro, I was excited to get Firefly... I think I'll be twice as happy to get the Destro fig.. and I dont think I can put into words how much I cant wait for that Zartan( Heck, I've already tarted looking for a nice hog for him, lol)... Grand Slam will turn into Bazooka for me.. but I'll probably get 2 and turn the second one into 'zookie

Over all, I'm really happy with the line... yeah, it's not the Joes I grew up with, but it's a great new rendition, a slight new twist.. but it still has that Joe feel to me.

i think for the most part sigma 6 has done above average. what comes to mind are the weapons. they are well designed making even the same character variations unique. the commando wave is really a great deal when you compare them to other toys in the aisle for ex. dcsh line retail for the same price, yet they can't even compare to what sigma 6 is offering. i put off buying aquatic duke because i thought hey he is just the same guy, but he a great figure, nice accessories, and a great price. the unique aspect for me in the 3.75 line was the individual weapons each character had, and this factor applies to the sigma 6 line as well.

Well, when I first heard and saw S6 I "thought" I was done with Joe. But when S6 hit the store and I could see then up close... well I think the pic below says it all. :D

Now, I haven't bought ALL the Dukes or Snake Eyes. I just buy what I like! I have been VERY impressed with the figures. I think Hasbro could have a hit on there hands. BUT...

They need to make different charcters (it sounds like this will be happening.) and for me more Cobra! Atleast keep the BATS or (sometime soon I hope) another troop figure in the line up in the following waves. A better mix of Joe and Cobra because around here the only thing you can find is Joe. Duke and the boys need someone to fight!

So, yes I really like the S6 line now. I hope to pick up the ATV soon and I'm looking for DESTRO! (Can't wait!) I am really looking forward to ZARTAN. Less of the Dukes and Snake Eyes, a few more Cobra, and Hasbro will have a huge hit! :D

Depends... I hate the show, so I can't get into the "new takes" on most of the characters. I do like the ones that remind me of the originals, like Storm Shadow and the first Snake Eyes, and I'll probably get Zartan and maybe Destro too.

But Duke and the rest... terrible.

I, like almost all of us, hated this line when first announced and I thought it was the worst mistake for Hasbro.

But once they came out... I bought a few and really enjoyed them.

Now I have almost all of them except for two DUkes and One SnakeEyes, which I'll pass on for now. I guess I like them because of their uniqueness and style. It really works well for what they are. The accesories are awesome too. You can't beat the weapons for some of them.

That is something that the 3 3/4'' Joes lost since the relaunch and w/ Spytroops/V vs V.

The accesories have become crappy and redundant. I remember when the accesories were the best feauture and were unique to each character. The accesories used to define the characters back in the day. That is something that Sigma Six has captured.

I look forward to what comes next in this line.

and am very glad that Joe still lives in some form.

The toys are really fun.

I am not a fan of the 8" line. They look like fun and seem to be well made and had a lot of effort put into them and yadda yadda, they're just not something I want to own. Ditto for the 2.5" line. I would prefer to stick to one scale and expand that collection (lots of vintage items I don't yet own) then get into these.

I wasn't very interested in these when I first saw pictures, but seeing the finished product changed my mind. I've got everybody except Destro and a couple of the different versions of Duke and Snake Eyes.

It's just an awesome line. The figures have a neat look, great articulation, and cool accessories. Can't wait for Zartan. :)

I'm a fan. Have been since day one.

But I'm still hoping for improvements to the overall design. Shipwreck and Grand Slam are a move in that direction for me. Zartan too.

I think a very few things need to happen before this line goes out:

Females (Scarlett and Baroness are necessary)

Troops (Vipers/Troopers, and more BATs)

Mainstay characters (like Stalker, Gung-Ho, and Wild Bill. The Dreadnoks, too)

Otherwise, I'm very happy with the way it's progressing, and look forwardto good news at Toy Fair this year, unlike in 2005.

I was looking forward to this line and ready to give it a chance when I first heard about it.

I thought the t.v. show was terrible, the voice acting made the show unwatchable for me.

I liked the look of the figures and was ready to buy Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow when I first saw them, but S6 is just too expensive here in Canada IMO.

$22 for the commando figs at TRU, and I just saw the Destro fig today at Wal-Mart for $20.

Sigma 6 is out of my price range.

What do they cost in the U.S.?

Awsome toy line. Have the figs, vehicles for them. As far as the 2.5 line is concerned, there are only a few things I want. I definitely want the Dragonhawk. As far as the other vehicles are concerned, I don't know. If they make a 2.5 RHINO and ROCC, I'll get those. And if they make Duke's mech from the first ep (which for a full size wouldn't be too much (probably about the size and price of the current Dragonhawk). Destro's mech is nice though too.

As for the first season of the show, it's kind of like season 1 of G1 TFs. In that show, there were only 16 episodes for the first season, and in season 2, there were like 45 eps. So I'm sure the S6 cartoon is the same way. They only produced a very limited number of eps that they could roll into one small pilot season to see how well the franchise would do. If it did well, it meant a longer season for the next year, which we're clearly going to get. With the introduction of Lt. Stone, the Dragonhawk, the Night Ranger Quad, and Firefly in the season premiere alone, well, we should be gearing up for a nice season 2. I know this because 1) I took a production/broadcasting course in high school, 2) It's simple and a moderately known fact.

When the line was first announced I was very optomistic and was looking forward to it. When i first got my hands on the figures I really enjoyed them for a little bit but then lost interest. But i continued to pick them up anyway. Now that we have more characters to choose from I am liking the line even more. But I am still a bit concerned about not having any female figures. I keep buying hoping that we will eventually get Scarlet. So right now I am happy with the line and will continure to buy them. I have all the individual characters and a few of the repaints. I don't mind the repaints for 2 reasons. 1) For the most part the repaints make sense (environmentally specific and/or cartoon accurate outfits) and 2)This line IS expensive. The repaints allow me to not have to buy every new figure that comes out. If every single figure that came out was a new character, I would want to buy them. As it is now I am only buying two or thre characters for every 4 or 5 they are putting out. It does help from a money perspective.

And the 2.5" line is not bad either. I just wish the figures for them were less "pre-posed". The line really brings me back to the days of M.A.S.K

A year ago, I told myself that there was no way I was going to buy any of these. Now, like a lot of others, I have a shelf full of them.

Whereas I'd prefer the stores to still have pegs full of 3 3/4" figs, I'm glad that G.I. Joe still has a presence. Everytime I see a kid in a store looking at a Sigma 6 toy, I think about what it was like to be a kid and find the newest G.I. Joe item on the pegs.

I think they're really cool, but 8" is a little too big for my tastes. I just don't have the space for figures that big. I bought a couple, but gave them to a fellow Joe collector and he likes them a lot. I really like the design aesthetics, especially Cobra Commander's design. The upcoming figures look awesome, especially Destro and Zartan.

The TV show is goofy so far, but it has the potential to be good. Zeus parts 1 and 2 are my favorite episodes so far.

I'm a little disappointed in the 2.5" line, especially with the awkward pre-posed figures. I like the vehicles, but they're no good to me if the small figures can't interact well with them. I hope in the future they go with a uniform T-crotch design and basic articulation like wave 1 of the 3 & 3/4" Joe vs. Cobra line.
