I was looking at the cases of Wave 5 figures over at starwarsshop.com to see exactly what will be shipping in August. The "Endor Wave" figures are all there:

Moff Jerjerrod

Death Star Gunner

"Ol' Yellow Eyes" Emperor Palpatine

"Bendy Knee" Threepio

Chief Chirpa

Commander Cody Repack

"Bespin Luggage" Darth Vader

But what really caught my eye was R2-D2.

I thought it was yet ANOTHER rerelease of the VOTC/Hoth R2 in a seemingly endless sea of blue and white astromech figures. But when I looked closer at this figure's pic, I noticed something different. It looks like the mold for R4-P17 has been used for R2-D2! This is considered by many to be a nearly perfect sculpt of an astromech, since its an improved retool of the VOTC R2, minus the pop-up scanner. Instead, its replaced with a middle leg that is raised or lowered by rotating the droid's head. There is definitely a rectangular opening in the bottom of the figure for the middle leg to fit inside...and the leg itself looks like it has a pivoting "ankle" joint...just like on R4-P17.

Did Hasbro finally do what many of us have been wishing they'd have done back with the VOTC mold or am I just seeing something that's not there?

Here's the pic, courtesy of Starwarsshop.com:

That is the same picture that was used back when the first pictures of the Hoth R2 were showing up. So I would say its probably just a Hoth R2. But considering that that picture exists it wouldn't surprise me if it was a new Endor R2. Just don't be disappointed when it's not.
