1997 Destro - Profiled!

This week's profile is of the 1997 Destro figure. This isn't many people's favorite version of Destro and is certainly not the preferred mold, but this version does have some redeeming factors.

Nice profile. The only versions of Destro that ever interested me were the first two. You are right that at least this one does stick apart from the rest--though not so much as the PDD version. I don't know, but it seems to me that with every version of Destro released, he seems to become less and less Destro and more and more someone else.

Well I think this Destro is ok, but I like the comic pack version better. The one thing that's keeping the comic pack version from being one of the best is the white gloves and the lack of a wrist rocketlauncher.

Yeah, those white gloves are awful.

 

Good profile, but yeah, I'm kind of with the rest on this version. I did own it up until a few months ago. I just don't really have any use for it, now that I've got my minty V1 Destro, so I sold it on Ebay.

 

I think my primary problem with it was how thick the chest was.

So you had no problem with his head not being a nice, shiny chrome? When I look at it, it almost makes me think that Destro's been letting himself go or has forgotten where he placed his polish.

The chrome is always a nice touch on Destro (although I don't think it works on the Sigma Six version), but I think I would have been happy if the gloves had been black.

I've always loved this mold.I agree that the 97 versions choice of colors were out there.With the comic pack release they could have used Trip Wire's lower arms for his gloves and gauntlets to get more of a classic Destro feel. Instead we got Destro's v3 arms with white gloves.This really took away from the comic packs look.

1997 Destro is pretty bad. Chrome head is the best part. If 1997 stuff had a higher production run, most if it would be pretty unpopular. a lot of the figures look odd and were made badly.

 

Comic Destro was half-hearted effort. They took the comic colors too literally, as Destro's gloves were probably meant to be steel or silver colored. It's strange, too, because Duke has a brown shirt in that issue and the figure has lighter khaki one. really Destro's torso should've been retooled to remove the shoulder guards and correct the necklace...or barring that, recast the 1983 torso.
