DC superheroes

Ok, so lets get explicit about our love for the DC universe.

Tell us your fave DC character and why you like them.

In fact, try to find an issue you like with them in, or 'best bits' and mention it. We could end up finding some issues that really epitomise the character.

Maybe your fav pic?

Hell it doesn't have to be a well known one, just one that caught your eye one time and you think they look pretty cool, and you think they deserve a little press.

Lets bask in DC's warming glow.

Booster had a cool JLU episode. In fact that was a pretty good episode for a few minor JL members. Was good to see them in action.

One of the things that I like about DC is that they will use all the characters they have acquired over the years, they don't get rid of characters if they haven't been seen for a while.

Used to be Supes, hands down but with his books on the boring side for the most part I've been leaning more and more towards Bats. I think his best book was Batman #400, the last Bat book before the Crisis. It's the one where Ras unleashes Arkham to try and persuade Bats to see how futile his one man war on crime really is. I won't spoil it for anyone, but it is the best Batman book I've ever read.

But Supes never seems to fail either. Not with the "Up, Up and Away" arc going on right now. I missed issue 1, but picked up the second one today and I love it. For the first time since the stupid, "Death of Superman" story I'm jumping onboard Superman week-to-week. Couple that with All-Star Superman (Which also came out today) and Supes is hot right now. But he's no Batman.

To be honest, I've never been a supes fan at all. Even when I was young superman never appealed to me. I think its because he is SO super, ie the only thing that can stop him is kryptonite, or maybe magic. having said that I've only read a couple of his comics. I've always been a Bats guy, especially the darker bats. Something about the sinister anti hero that he is, is more appealing to me.

I think I'm more impressed by the fact that he has no powers, and yet still gets the job done. Granted its just as far fetched as an alien from another planet that is invulnerable to everything except a green rock, but I've always liked the fact that he HAS to rely more on his wits, or he really could end up dead, more so than Superman. He's a complex character, and I think that makes for good story telling

I don't much like sups either unless he is teamted up with bats or some such... which is probly why Ilove superman/batman series :P

To me they never quite do superman right... superman is a freakn god and they make him into a wimp... someone throws a car at sups and he goes flying back...

Someone throws a car at sups the car should go CRUNCH! and fall down and maybe go boom, and then sups should fly out of the smoke and flame un touched! To me thats sups!

For me... I tend to like the lanterns of late :D don't care what one :)

For the dc books I read

Supsbats

gl/anything

jla

& the odd other things too

is about it...

Oh yea booster is cool too :)

I wasn't really into comics when the wole GL/parallax sagge was going on, so I don't really have a clue of the significance of losing Hal and having him replaced with Kyle, but I'm guessing kyle is established now?

Ra's Al Ghul is dead but El Kabong was referring above to Batman #400 which is cover dated October 1986 when he was still alive. That's the same month Man of Steel #1 came out. Although Crisis on Infinite Earths was already over by then, Batman issue 400 is kind of meant to be the last Earth-1 Batman story.

what do you mean established?..

As in fans have accepted him as being the GL.

I read initially that Kyle wasn't as accepted as much because he wasn't Hal. Just wondered about the kyle 'climate'

I think half of the resentment towards Kyle was due to him replacing Hal and the other half was due to his status as the last and only remaining Green Lantern when he was introduced.

Now that Hal Jordan has been redeemed of Parallax's actions and the Green Lantern Corps is soon going to receive it's own ongoing series, I imagine most of the readers who hated Kyle no longer feel as strongly. A 12 part Ion maxi-series will begin on April 26th so DC must recognize Kyle has his own fanbase too.

ah , yeah most people who hated em I think just wound up getting use to him heh and as OH says now they no longer have any reason to hate them...

Man though I can't wait for the ion book, or for the GLC ongoing :) so much GL goodness out there lately :)

Black Lightning and Captain Atom (more so the gold/red version). Then Nightwing and Arsenal probably.

That Angel guy has always been kind of cool to. His name was something like Azreal but not. What was his name?

I like the Teen Titans too, but no one character really stands out.

The guy who suppose to be hawkman?

Grant Morrison wanted Zauriel to be the new Hawkman (there was no Hawkman in the DC Universe at the time) but was denied permission by DC editorial, who considered Hawkman's continuity to be hopelessly convoluted.

Zauriel

Thanks. Zauriel, I'll have to try to remember that name one of these days.

Since JLU started showing all the older characters, its been cool.

I first saw Dr Fate on JLU (even though he was on Superman: TAS) and thought he looked pretty cool, so started to look at some of his back story; a superman team up from 1980, the all new Justice League from '87 and the transition of Kent Nelson to Eric Strauss in the four part mini series from '87 as well.

I like the lords of Order/Chaos idea. I wasn't sure what his back story was post crisis though, as he didn't have a JSA/JLA 'counterpart'. I'm assuming he exists on earth one if he is in JLU and the all new Justice League (As Guy Gardner's in it), but he was a charter member of JSA. I haven't read Infinite Earths, so I don't know if they got around it or not. Yet, he is able to go over dimensions anyway, so maybe he just moved into the present one.

Any ideas?
