VOTC GI Joes

I would buy them, but I don't think this is nesseacily the way to go with Gi Joe... with Star wars the designs are obviously set by the Films, but often with Gi Joe the V1 uniform design is not actually the best design for the Character: Dr Mindbender being the obvious example, Grunt, Snake Eyes, Shipwreck, Spirit and Hawk Being other good ones. IMO the uniform should be true to the Character, not nesseacily the V1 design.

Whats wrong w/ Shipwreck's v.1 sculpt?

I'm talking new sculpt, but completely true to the original design, on the original design of the card (except the back would be a bit different), basically like the SW figures.

I sure would.

Hell yes I would buy them, but only if the sculpts are right. Some like Baroness, Zartan, and Firefly, are pretty hard to beat.

No matter what I would at least get a few to collect the vintage cardbacks.

I'd be first in line! I really hope they are planning something like this for the 25th Anniversary in 2007. I'd love to see all new sculpts, with all articulation available, like the 2002 Joes that featured feet (i.e. Duke, Snake Eyes, Firefly, Night Creeper), hands, and thighs (Firefly). I loved the Star Wars VOTC series, as I purchased them all.

Three words:

Inna. Heart. Beat.

Brand new, character-accurate, "ultimate" versions of the classic core Joes and Cobras, with a standard number of extra articulation points, the tradtional O-Ring waist joint, everyone with removable helmets, backpacks (with web gear) and a small arsenal of weapons.

If we could get Duke, Snake-Eyes, Scarlett, Shipwreck, Roadblock, Gung-Ho, Cobra Commander, Baroness, Destro, and Zartan... I'd be a happy soldier for years and years!

The fact that his clothing owes more to the Village People than any actaul modern naval uniform or work gear.

sailors don't wear dungarees anymore? sure, he could be in coveralls and a baseball cap, but that doesn't mean traditional sailor dungarees aren't also uniform of the day.

Well, as pointed out, it would matter WHICH version of a given character is best.

Sticking with the example of Dr. Mindbender, most would agree the last (lab coat) version is best. But what about Snake Eyes for another example? Most people would consider version 2 "best" and the Wave 7 version does the best it can to emulate that popularity.

As Blaster pointed out, the main thing about VOTC is the improvd articulation and there really isn't a lot of improvement they can DO to a Joe figure.

To me, something like that would be best served not with new figures but with reissues. It would be the perfect chance for Hasbro to bring back lost molds, and at $10 a piece, they'd surely make the money back to justify the trouble.

YES/NO!

- YES:

But not an odd size and must keep the original features, ie O-Ring, etc.

-NO:

Although I like the original look for nostalgia, some of the looks are simply out dated IMO.

I think they have been trying to adhere to original looks with DTC in many cases but like everyone says, the expense for completely new sculpts like Torch, Cover Girl, etc are out of the question for most anyway.

I wouldn't touch them. Why would I want to pay $10 for a figure that I could get otherwise for $6? Joes just don't lend themselves to the VOTC idea as the figures already have standard articulation beyond that of SW figures and Joes don't have the nostalgic drive behind them like the SW community does. Every time a higher price point figure is released, collectors incessantly whine and complain about it. As such, I think charging more for packaging would just lead to another failed line of figures. The higher price wouldn't be no where near enough to offset the lack of interest from collectors and casual buyers.

Besides, the DTC stuff has been pretty close to VOTC in terms of retro style packaging and quality figures. I'd rather Hasbro focused on those than make the packaging spiffier and add $4 to the price....
