Pryde Of The X-men?

Has anyone else seen the 1989 cartoon of the X-Men(no not the 90s series that was popular for several years)? I recently saw the first episode called Pryde of the X-Men and it actually wasn't too shabby. The X-Men team was a weird team-up of Dazzler, Kitty Pryde, Wolverine, Colossus, NightCrawler, Cyclops, and Storm. Wolverine had a really whiny British accent! Cyclops was played by the voice of Duke from G. I. Joe (I recognize those voices anywhere). It was kind of funny but still not bad and was part of the Marvel Hour. Anyone else seen it?

it came out in like 86 or so, wolvie had an australian accent. it was pretty goofy. It was originaly shown in place of Spiderman and his amazing friends. To help with I'd imagine sell the Secret Wars figs... Yes folks there was a time when Wolverine was an unknown and needed a bit of exposure.

I have it on VHS, its been in that format for quite some time now.

Decent cartoon actually, makes most of the stuff that followed look pretty bad.

I have the original VHS release as well, and I agree it was probably one of the best "visually", the story was a bit rushed, but to see Juggernaut and Magneto in that style was incredible.

I just hope they find a way to release it on DVD.

ya, i thought it was pretty bad heh

it was just a pilot and that later became the x-men cartoon

the arcade game was based on it though

It actually wasn't a pilot for the X-Men animated series. It was a pilot for and 80's X-Men cartoon, but upon seeing it, no station would pick up a series of that version of the X-Men, so no new eps were made.

heh i can see why

poor emma frost got it the worst

i think thats the one with her

and poor wolverine

I actually really liked it too. Too bad it didn't continue.

It wasn't a series (only one "episode" was ever made), but wasn't technically a pilot either.

It was Marvels first attempt to market the X-Men. The 'toon was created as a presentation piece to introduce the characters to potential merchandisers. The only time it was even aired was as a segment of the old Marvel Action Universe series.

BTW: It had no relation to Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends whatsoever. It came out several years after Spidey was cancelled.

I had no idea. Thanks Mako.

I've got it on VHS. It's what got me into X-Men.

I got my first real good look at Colossus and Nightcrawler and liked them the most. I

I went out and picked up an early issue of Excalibur and X-Factor, my first two Marvel Universe books. My comic collecting pretty much started because of that cartoon.

Oh, I also loved the Blob's voice. It sounded blobby.

I remember wanting to buy it, but never did!! They had ads for it for the longest time in the comics. Along with this you could get How to Draw Comics video as well, narrated by Stan Lee!!
