I actually like the Cobra Trooper. I think the Helmet is sitting in a werid postion on his head in the package, once we get some loose pictures we might see if sitting on his head a little better.

Not to big on Grand Slam...It's not that I think he looks bad, but he just isn't doing it for me.

Low Light looks good....Not as good as I was hoping for, but I can live with it.

Med Alert...well Med Alert is the reason I won't be buying a case, just so I can avoid buying this figure.

I need to get a better look at Monkey Wrench to make my mind up about it.

I really, Really like the SAW Viper.....proably build a Squad of 6 of these after I get a Squad of 6 Snow Seperents.

I dunno.  They kept claiming this was an "experiment" didn't they?  So why didn't they gauge fan reactions from waves 1 and 2 better than this?

I dunno. maybe the budget for DTC is only enough to repaint parts with new head sculpts and accessories but not entire body parts. which is fine if a little imagination is thrown in to make cool frankensteined figures instead of straight repaints.

that's my problem with these. while I applaud those in charge for seeing that the Swamp rat would make good Rock Viper, Shipwreck a spot on Footloose, and different arms and a cool sash erase the look of Black Out from Major Bludd, these just take for granted our acceptance of those repaints for repaints are fine no matter what.

Most of Swamp Rat's parts were used to create Range-Viper version 2 for the DTC line. However, it's understandable to get Rock Viper confused with Range-Viper since the 1990 Range-Viper mold was re-used in 2000 to create Rock Viper version 2.

The figures look okay, but SAW Viper needs a much bigger gun. And that Cobra Trooper figure looks like it could be cool, but I'm not sure that the Ghost Bear mold is necessarily a good fit.

Hey, thanks to Alyosha for the blow-ups!

OH WOW! This wave looks awesome! Holy cow. With the exception of Bludd & Footloose, I was SO let down with wave #2 that I feared that the DTC stuff was starting to tank, but I have new hope now! I can't believe how great these figures look with reused parts.. Dwight outdid himself!

I mean..

Grand Slam couldn't be more retro-yet-updated if he tried. New OD camo uni & yet the same quilted orange pads & updated helmet? Oh man.. the detail on that figure is AMAZING. I am not crazy about the yellow grenades, but hey.. that's nothing a little black or OD paint can't fix. :-)

This is the first SAW viper that I actually LIKE. I always disliked the original & this one screams "realistic style military figure Cobra" to me. And the new weapons? omg.. BOUT time we got rid of that huge oversized machine gun! I love how he retained the green goggles.. VERY cool. :)

Low Light is as close to his retro v1 look as I could have possibly imagined.. and I couldn't be MORE pleased! Again.. the new weapon, WOW.

Med Alert is basically a new Lifeline & is not all that thrilling (I'll admit).. BUT.. they took that gawd-awful Hard Drive & actually did something decent/more appropriate with the body, so I am pretty happy. It'll be great to finally have a new medical specialist again though, to be sure.

I LOVE the new twist on Monkeywrench.. very cool & unlike the original, he doesn't have a "Torch wannabe" look to him. Sweet!

And the new Trooper is quite cool as well. i'll definitely be buying up a bunch of these. I've seen where some have hated on the helmet, but I think its just a product of Hasbro giving us what we want. For years I've seen people talk about a removable helmet blueshirt, but inherent in that is that the helmet will look bigger than a molded-on helmet. Its just the nature of the beast. i am not thrilled about the red pads on the boots, but that will be SUPER easy to go over with black paint. Otherwise though, I think the trooper look fan-freakin-tastic.. & with the blown-up pics, he appears to be a darker blue than originally thought. Cool! :)

And I don't mean to be all happy-happy-joy-joy about these either. I mean, like I said.. I was pretty let down by wave #2, so its not like I enjoy everything that comes down the pike, but THIS wave has me pretty excited.. at least for 5 out of 6 figures. #US1#

Ok now that I have had time to actually sit back and look at these babies I am loving them!

Med Alert reminds me of Lifeline and that is a good thing! And I always liked the Hard Drive mold, it was just sloppily painted.

Saw Viper at first I was like ehhh to realistic but its grown on me a lot already. Will keep the two I get from a case.

Cobra Trooper, freaking sweet!!!! I love the Ghost Bear mold and I think the helmet will look better when we get loose shots.

Low Light turned out just like I pictured and I am digging him quite a lot.

MonkeyWrench is probably my fav!!! I love the look and it does not look like a Burnout head to me.

Lastly we have Grand Slam and it is exactly what I figured, I don't know what some of you were thinking at all if you did not think it would mostly be Bazooka. Looks great to me!

At first glance, I'm pretty disappointed by this wave. I love the character choice, but the execution isn't up to previous DTC levels.

Best to worst:

Grand Slam - awesome. Don't like the yellow grenades? Their on a removable bandolier so just toss 'em. He reminds me of how awesome the repaint of Shipwreck made a completely different looking Footloose. His large gun looks like it'll attach to vehicles. Sweet.

Lowlight - perfect execution of keeping the RAH design. His gun looks awesome and long without being unweildy like the DTC Barrel Roll's gun.

SAW Viper - an efficient if not too inspired reuse of Rollbar. It works, but the figure lacks punch. Maybe green shouldn't have been used for the visor? I think this figure's ultimate coolness will rest with his gun. Thank god it isn't gigantic like his RAH version. What is the red/pink accessory? Is it a backpack? I think he'll end up being far cooler out of the package.

Cobra Trooper - besides the helmet flaring out too much, you know what bothers me the most. The offset Cobra symbol. It should be centered which is a reason for not using the Ghost Bear mold. I have 50 VvV blue Vipers and was planning on getting as many Cobra Troopers when they were announced. These pics changed my mind. I might get a dozen, I'll really need to get the 2 from my case first. What's the weapon on the left side of the package? It looks like it might plug into the smaller holes on vehicles.

and then things go way downhill....

Monkeywrench - what the hell is that trenchcoat? It looks awful. He's too obviously a redo of Burnout. The jacket/dress doesn't do much to hide his awfulness. In fact, it makes it worse. Some of you want sleeves on that thing? Imagine how awful that would have turned out. As it is, he's another Dreadnok, so I have to give him an edge over....

Med-Alert - holy moley, hide your taste 'cause it's about to get insulted. Yeah, I know he's supposed to resemble Lifeline. Know what? Lifeline kinda sucked. Doc was a far better medic and looked like he was in the military. Medics in the armed forces don't wear red jumpsuits. It's a terrible idea for GI oe. I also just hate the Harddrive mold. A new paintjob isn't going to help it. He's just too...thick and misproportioned. His one saving grace....a new gun which looks pretty cool.

4 out of 6 ain't bad, but the Cobra Trooper is borderline.

Are there any vehicles for Wave 3 or does the Rhino fill that role? What about a 6-pack?

Sorry to the DTC die-hards, but Wave 2 of Sigma 6 looks more appealing to me at this point. The Tunnel Rat and Ninja BAT look awesome. The Scuba Duke doesn't look so bad, either. I can't believe I just said that.

Any idea on the release date of this stuff? December or January?

Monkeywrench looks cool as well as the new SAW-Viper which I am impressed by and will probably but a good amount of.

But the new COBRA Trooper is a joke. Maybe Hasbro will get it right with the COBRA Officer in the next wave but I'm not holding my breath.

Hmm

the Ghost Bear Body mold as the Cobra Trooper actually works IMO The trooper should have a fairly streamlined uniform, which this works fairly well as. I don't mind that the current trooper Uniform is a bit differently laid out than the origional any more than I did with the Viper. The helmet doesn't seem to fit well, but we'll see, I wasn't wild about the DTC range viper helmet until i actaully got him.

Low Light is cool, I always liked the JVC Torpedo Mold

I like Med Alert, But I liked both V1 Lifeline and the mold of Hard Drive

SAW Viper is interesting, not what I'd been expecting but does have the features I was hoping for.

Monkeywrench I can't make my mind up about, I think I'll have to see it in person.

Grand Slam looks good, FWIW thats not any exisiting head mold: the VVV Bazooka mold has a fairly unique neck joint structure and most, if not all, other JVC or VVV heads won't fit in it customisers can file and sand parts to get arround that: for a production peice like this it would mean making a new mold anyway, so for that reason if no other the head sculpt is probably all new. (this also explains why DTC frankenstiens so far have less diverse part sources than many customs: any part that would need modding by a customiser would need a new mold and thus be pretty much as expensive for Hasbro as a whole new part)

These look good to me, they always look better in person, its so hard to get a feel for depth of color and stuff online in a pic. The monkey wrench has me pretty excited. Anyone know when the other comic book pack, the DD one is coming out?

Im not overly impressed with this wave... in fact i'm a little dissapointed... but take into acount however we are gettign 2 entirely new molds on the comic pack with this wave... so that might have stripped the budget for this round a bit.

Saw-Viper looks decent, colors could be more "Cobra" tho. They make the wave 2 Range Viper (a survivalist figure) in grey/blue, but a heavy weapons troop gets more "field" colors? But it looks decent.

Cobra Trooper: Well, it aint gonna replace the wave 7 Viper as the backbone of the Cobra infantry. BUT, if it had a different head, it would be a good Frag-Viper. I'll use these guys as Frag-Viper trainees.

Monkeywrench: Definitely looks like a white Burnout. Red or brown hair would've helped the repaints credibility. He should've gotten Grand-Slams grenade bandolier.

Lowlight: Actually looks good, really hope he didn't get VvV wave 7 Snake-Eyes hands.

GrandSlam: Again, looks good, a few more silver highlights would help. But why are the grenades the only yellow thing in this package?

Med-Alert: Still waiting for a JvC era figure that began life as a medic. Putting a note in Hardrives filecard did not make him a medic IMO, and does not justify the figure as a medic. A handheld medkit or backpack would help.

I think this lineup is being rushed out for the holidays. People wondering where the new figures are, well the BAT v5 and new Covergirl are pretty much it for this year. I do think DTC Joes will continue through 2006, tho maybe only a couple figure waves and filling it out with things like repaint 6-packs (a pack of the VvV Vipers with removable helmets is probably coming) and DTC HISS repaints/retools (I could see a red repaint, a blue version with cannons on the turrets and a Python Patrol repaint of the previous) pretty much filling being it. They're probably saving resources to make the 2007 anniversary line really special.

I agree that since we are getting new sculpts in the six pack and in the comic pack (isnt hannibal all new too?) that is probably why this wave is skimped a bit..... Im not too worried yet.

I'll buy three Grand Slams-one to paint silver pads on, one to keep as red pad Grand Slam and one to turn into Flash. I like his figure the most. The grenade belt can be painted or tossed, so it's no big deal. Lowlight is also a good figure. I will definately buy him, the SAW Viper and Med Alert. I might buy Monkey Wrench. The Cobra Soldier is the only one I don't like in this wave.

Ok Im cornfused.....this isnt supposed to be Harddrive...is it? I thought it was just Med Alert in a uniform similar to Harddrives.

5 out of 6 isn't bad.Wish they'd done a better job on the cobra soldier though.I can live with frankensteins and repainted figures as long as they look good and make sense.I've been using the repainted Flint that came with Blackout as Falcon since it came out.Wonder what vehicals if any we get with this wave?

I think Hannibal only has a new head along with that jacket thing (new arms maybe), but I see you're logic #US1# . I think getting a completely new sculp Covergirl may have dried up the budget for this wave, though I could be wrong.
