Hell Hath Frozen Over!

How much advertising does a DUKE toy really need? Any kind of G.I.Joe related material more than likely has DUKE on it, whether it's the little mini comics, kites, birthday cards, pens, playing cards, games etc...

Most of the 3 3/4" Dukes are GONE from retail, but that 12" guy is all over the place and stacked to the roof almost, at all of the TRU's I venture into.

And as far as your decision to articulate your opposition to my opinions...THAT'S MORE LIKE IT! ^_^

It shouldn't have to be like pulling teeth to get folks to be a little more specific and EXPLAIN themselves, when that's only being respectful to begin with. I go out of my way to be as articulate and specific in my comments, so nothing is left to question (although it still is).

Pretty much any duke 2pk of 3 3/4 ich is the easiest pack to find in the wave.

Draven, I had a feeling you'd come around. I actually was surprised at your negativity surrounding S6. Glad to see you've come around.

I actually think the S6 Duke is the best of the wave. All the figures have their advantages.

SE is...well SE. He looks great and has some nice accessories. His alternate headgear is one of his selling points. He looks great with all of the headgear.

SS is now my definitive version of this character. Someone said it on another board, but I'll repeat it, "best ninja toy ever." His gear is fantastic. I'd love to see this figure repainted in all red with red pants....fantastic red ninja army builder.

Heavy Duty is gigantic. His gun looks like it would take out a tank. And he can actually stand up while holding it! I only have 2 small complaints. His bandana and eyewear don't fit that well together. I got them to work, but it's a little tricky. Second complaint? Lack of a handgun. A pistol with a peg on it would have been nice.

Spirit...probably the best version of this character as well. I love his first figure, but this version is far less insulting of a stereotype. His bow is a little large. I don't love the splitting apart aspect of his tomahawk, but I'll just leave it in one piece. He looks so much better without his pants. That sounds terrible, but it's true.

Duke...overall, the best S6 figure. His duel pistols are awesome. His steely look. The padded flak vest. The rifle. His rocket launcher is a little disappointing, though. I wish the front handle went to the side, so he could hold it with both hands. His grappling hook is terrible. It's very weak and the cable is far too short. It's pretty useless. He also comes with a knive and 2 grenades. The grenades can be armed (their tops/handles extend up. This is the first time I've seen a grenade accessory that can be "armed." Amazing. I only wish Duke's color scheme was green/brown/tan based. I'd like to see blue reserved for Cobra forces.

Draven (and everyone else), pick up Duke! You won't be disappointed.

I also recommend SE's Ninja bike. It's got a ton of SE weapons painted silver. It also comes with 2 small "detonators" which are pretty cool. It's got nice hidden action features and is just a nice chunk of a toy. If you guys want more S6 vehicles, you better support this bike.

I have a feeling that VH is right on the money on this one. I've noticed that out of all the stores in my area that have received their shipments of S6, none of them seem to be selling a lot of them.

Sure, people are looking through them, and a few are getting purchased here and there, but these simply aren't leaping off the shelves, at least not in my area. (Although in fairness one of the TRU stores in my area put them up in a really dumb place away from regular Joe products so at that store maybe people aren't seeing them)

When the "big" joes made their introduction in 1964, they were an instant hit. Sales for 12" were HUGE until the negative effects of the Vietnam war slowed them down, and then Hasbro switched to the "Action Team" theme and things picked up again.

In 1982 when 3 3/4" Joe was first brought out, it too was a huge success. I can remember hearing of people getting into fights over these at stores. Like the 12" figures of a generation before, they quickly took their place as one of the dominant toy lines for boys.

Guys, S6 simply isn't making that big of an impact. I'm not saying sales are bad (although who knows, maybe they are). Maybe given time and a LOT MORE effort from Hasbro, S6 would eventually catch on with kids, but from my experience, I don't think Hasbro has the patience for it. Yea S6 is surely generating SOME sales, but so did 3 3/4" VvV, and so did Battle Corps back in 1994.

That doesn't necessarily mean that Hasbro will abandon S6 after a time and go back to 3 3/4" either.....with Hasbro, who knows what they'll do next.

Another thing, and I've heard this from several sources, is that the entire toy industry in general has been slowly losing ground to the video game industry for kids of all age groups. What this probably means for Joe is that you won't be seeing 200+ figure years anymore, as toy companies won't be willing to invest the capital into such expenditures. We might see something like what Hasbro did in 2000, or even as limited as the 1998 lineup.

First of all, the generic Joe 12" line also had talking figures, it wasn't JUST Duke.

Secondly, I've pointed out before that the 12" line had all the aritculation of S6 already AND a more realistic look. So the ONLY thing that S6 has going for it IS the "anime" styled bodies. THAT is the selling point.

As for the cartoon, the could have easily done a cartoon tied into the either the 12" or 3" lines.

Right now, I've seen Snake Eyes, Heavy Duty, Spirit and Storm Shadow and I'd have to say that Heavy Duty is the best looking one of the bunch (he's the least "weird" looking). I'd have to say that Snake Eyes is the least impressive. He looks like a friggin' robot.

So far, Spirit and Storm Shadow are the only ones that have sold.

Its good that more people are liking these s6 toys...maybe as long as gijoe has support one way or the other, then maybe theyll keep kicking out both types of joes!

Im sure ill think the s6 stuff is cool when i finally see it,but i dont want to get into collecting it cuz i HAVE NO ROOM!

Sigma-6 has the same problem that the 3 3/4" line had before going DTC....It doesn't matter how much we collectors like them, Hasbro mainly cares for whether or not kids like them and buy them (or get their parents to buy them).

If that means making S6 figures with Action attack and neon weapons, don't think for a moment Hasbro wouldn't do it!

Welcome aboard Draven (and to you, too, VH!!). I was just playing with my Storm Shadow and Spirit figures and I'm 24! It's been quite a while since toys have actually gotten to me like this. Oh, sure, I fool around with my Joes, setting up big battle scenes and putting together a diostory, but there's something about these figures...ya know? They just beg to be played with! Plus, the cartoon is pretty freakin' cool! I can't wait until the second assortment of these figures hits! Army building B.A.T.s is going to be really fun! I sure do hope S6 reinvigorates the whole GIJoe craze for years to come!

@hmmm@

@lol@ Come on Jase is there somthing you want to tell us? @smilepunch@

Draven

I repeat.....

Draven

Hehe. Actually after seeing them in person I don't think they look that bad. Even though I've been thinning out my collections (except DC Direct...which continues to grow) I have considered picking up one Sigma 6 figure just to check it out. But for $15 I'm not sure.....yet.

The packaging is really nice. I've seen all of the first series of figures and I like the look of Storm Shadow and Duke the most. I dunno. I don't really want to start collecting another line just as I'm purging many others from my collection. Time will tell.

I'm kind of getting tired of the 3-4" scale of figures (in general) and really have taken a liking to the 6-7" scale. Sigma 6 doesn't really fit either so.....? I checked around yesterday for a Storm Shadow, but he was the only one I couldn't find. I guess I should've picked him up when I saw three of them at TRU last week.

Glad we both came over on the same time. lol It was the same day we both admitted it to each other! @loll@ But yeah you shoould at least try out Storm Shadow! He looks great and I am hoping to pick him up tonight! :) Errrr my gf will actually as I am broke but you all get it. lol Plus Jase you could just wait till the $10 ones too. As I will get Duke, HD, etc in that form. But definitely give them a try. The quality is really, really good. Its sad that the 3 3/4 Joes do not get this amount of pride but into them.

Draven

What are the differences between the $15 and $10 figures? I assume the accessories and/or case? I really like the look of the case.

Did Molly hit the lotto? @lol@

Yeah its the case that will be gone a Sigma lovin friend told me and some gear/weapons probably. Should have their main gear though.

No but she got paid a huge ass paycheck!!!!!! @lol@

Guess what, Got the last Stormy, LOVE him!!!!!!! I will get the Spirit asap.

As far as this whole 12' Duke vs Sigma its stupid. The 12" Duke sucked, had no real toon to back it and yes looks like a Barbie to some kids. These are just what kids like today! They are selling well around me, even at $15 and I am shocked at that. This line will be huge imo. Mark my words!

Just curious how "huge" the line would be WITHOUT the cartoon. Or, how big would the 12" line be WITH a cartoon?

I wouldn't think that "bashing" those who bash Sigma Six is any BETTER route to take either. <_<

Just enjoy your newfound love of the toys and don't get defensive over criticisms by others...against them. I'm not calling fans of S6 "f**king stupid" for why they do like them, and I don't roll my eyes at them when they suggest how big a success they think they're going to be. I try to cite examples to back up why I think they won't be....and well, you see what that got me?

I just give my heartfelt opinions on what I think about them, question some of the comments on them, compare ALL forms of G.I.Joe in expressing myself and also state what I think about Hasbros way of implementing them. If these critiques are taken personal, that's not my problem, and I'm sorry if it ruins the happy, happy, joy, joy moment for those just wanting to ewww & ahhh without distraction.

I never criticized you personally ONCE, for having purchased a S6 toy, and actually having decided you "love them now" Draven because I respect you, but yet you want to chime in, when the little snide remarks are being made to belittle my participation in the discussion here, because I'm still negative on the toys?

i, for one, wont be getting any s6 figures (at least not right now). im not a hater of the design, im not thrilled about it, but its better than the gi joe extreme. i like the cartoon. i balk at the price tag. for $15 i can get 2 VvsV 2-packs or for $5 for dollars i can get a tru 6pack.

if they flop and go on clearnce for $7-8 i might pick a few up. but for me the choice is an economic one, plain and simple.

I was not personally attacking you VH and I realize you where not doing that to me. Believe me if you were, you would have had a lot worse reponse to it than that. @lol@ Feel free to continue the discussion. Its a free board. Its not bothering me really.
