A Coupla Questions

1. 501st and shocktrooper. Where do these terms come from? I've just watched the film quite hawkishly and never heard them mentioned. Are they fan-made names?

2. Were the AT-TE Tank Gunners in the film? or quite a lot of characters for that matter, eg: Tarkin? (Red) Clone Commander?

3. Why do the Jedi die so easily? And why are most of them freaks? I think it would have worked better with a mostly human council. Those aliens just didn't scream cool to me.

4. Anyone else think the Jedi Temple battle pack should come with severed younglings? @firedevil@

On the plus side, I did actually spot Bacara this time round, but I still say him and the red commander are the least worthy of having figures made

The name "501st" is a reference to the real 501st, a group of fans who build their own costumes.

I remember 'shocktroopers' being part of the mythos at least as far back as ESB, as part of Boba Fett's 'unofficial' backstory

A lot of the figure choices were probably decided on 12-18 months ahead of time; before it was known how much, if any, screen time they'd have. The only one you mentioned that I know I saw was Tarkin; he's seen for a few seconds, at a slight distance, on the bridge of the Star Destroyer at the end of the film. (at least his scene wasn't cut ;))

The red clone commander is actually Commander Bly, but his colors were changed to match the environment of Felucia better after the initial designs were given to Hasbro and the makers of the visual dictionary. Thus, we got the red figure and he can be seen in the visual dictionary in red. He did NOT appear in red in the movie.

I did see one AT TE Gunner with his helmet off in the background. The shot is only 3 seconds but it is of Anakin and Obi Won walking with each as Obi Won is about to walk on to a Super Star Destroyer on his way to Utapua. If you see it again, watch out for it :)

I don't recall even seeing an AT-TE tank! What do they look like? The ones at the end during the rebellion are called turbo tanks aren't they?

I think that that was commander Fox talking to commander Cody.

Like almost every name in the prequel trilogy they were made up by Lucas and his underlings. And yes, like Bespin said 501st is an homage to the real 501st.
