from MC, the July letter doesnt have much about 3 3/4" stuff, but it does say this:

"For all you 3 3/4" Collectors, have faith as we ar working on a whole year's worth of 3 3/4" exclusives that we plan to announce soon. We are searching for tools in China right now."

A years worth? What, are they going to start kicking them out once a month or something?

Tell me what you guys think.

From what I remember at the Master Collector Roundtable...

-2 packs every quarter, probably starting around November

-each 2 pack in a window box, with the 4 window boxes creating a larger scene

-approx price $20-25 per 2 pack

If anyone took notes or recorded that roundtable, please feel free to correct me, I'm just going off memory.

They've been talking about this for a few years, but the basic idea is 2-packs issued quarterly (4 a year) with artwork laden boxes that will "join" together to form some sort of picture. And all the sets will tie together in some unifying "theme" for the year. I'd be surprised if we got to see anything before next year.

Oh how nice! MC exclusives at MC prices @rolleye@

If they roll out with some assinine, overinflated prices on these things, I will seriously be pissed.

I know I know, lots of times they produce low figures and have to compensate for overhead and costs and blah blah blah, but to hell with that--if they are going to bother making these exclusives, I would hope they do it right and make plenty of them.

I do realize I am jumping to conclusions, and as long as the packs are decent then a $20 price tag isnt bad, but any more than that then its probably pushing it. Less would be much better of course.

Anyhow, thank you for the info JeffBohn!

You mention another topic worth thinking about here.

When is Master Collector going to start reflecting the changes in the GI Joe community by making 3 3/4 inch topics and discussions the main showcase of their news letter?

Anyone at the convention could tell you that there was a lot of 3 3/4 buzz and I for one didn't hear even a mention of 12 inch Joes. So what's up? Why not 3 /34 inch Dio-stories in the newsletter? Why do I pay for a membership to a publication that hardly dedicates two pages a month to my collectible?

Thats great News. Yes there expensive but take the Crimson Viper per instance, that is the Zenith of Gi joe quality. So think of all those great molds with sorry paint jobs. They could deliver some knock out stuff. So keep your fingers crossed.

Great point! I can't wait to see what master collector comes up wit it better be good lol! For some reason I think they will make a lot of these things at good prices (fingers crossed). See I buy 2 of everything and it would be twice as costly!

As far as the material goes: the idea is that the club members are also free to contribute their own articles and discussions to the newsletter. If there's little being discussed, then there's little being contributed.

Mastercollector's staff just assemble the stuff, they seldom generate material on demand, afaik.

BOOM!

I wholeheartedly agree, and couldnt agree more. I was really disapointed with the July newsletter.

What, 2 friggin paragraphs about 3 3/4 stuff? gimme a break. And especially right here around the convention. Sheesh.

Even if its just a bit of news and maybe a review of an old theme (like they used to do...maybe someone took the month off?) then Im happy.

$20-$25 (and that's probably the member price!) for two figures? And then more for shipping? No thanks.

Yup that was discussed. I am not sure the picture would be, but I hope that we hear something from their first two pack before Dec 2005. They said they are just waiting for some samples back to see what they look like. If they are anything like the ones that we got this year in the set, they are going to be a big hit, even to the ones that bad mouth this years con exclusives and then turn around and say they want them @loll@, it is ALL GOOD ;)

Vehicles would be excellent too.

The more collecting becomes a "serious" adult hobby, the less interest I have.

When you pretty much have to join a club to get reduced prices on something....forget it.

I'm not surprised by the little coverage of 3 3/4" Joes, up until 2002 or so, small joes were treated as the bastard child of Hasbro at the convention. Now they smell our money, and with the 12" dying of old age or moving on @smilepunch@ , but I suspect the club is still dominated by the old hold outs, clasping their Action Soldiers to their chest as they hack out articles on an old typewriter because computers are too hard for them to understand. Yes, let us honor these decript old timers who cling onto nostalgia long past the point of quaintness and well into creepyness. They shant be with us much longer.

No kidding, especially when the "reduced" prices are ridiculously high too.

I can deal with the hobby becoming more serious (that might even be a bit more enjoyable to me personally) but what I don't like is that while the hobby shifts that way it also changes from being about enjoying and sharing the hobby to it being some sort of juvenile "status symbol" where people measure themselves against other collectors by how much schwag they have.

I'm a supporter of the GIJCC and the convention exclusives (I buy them every year because they produce quality stuff [usually] that I enjoy having in my collection) but lately it seems that the club is all about making/ taking money rather than being an organiztion that enriches the hobby. That newletter that's touted all the time is a waste of paper and ink. Of all the things that could be in there, it's a small pamphlet with very little hobby information stuck inside a big book of ads. It's great that they offer the thing, but for $36.00 something a bit more content rich would be appreciated.

I really can't see how it makes sense that Master Collector can dig up lost molds, or more likely Hasbro does it for them, which are used to make limited run exclusives. But Hasbro just repaints 90% of the same stuff over and over. 3 RAH 6-packs for this summer and they are all previously reissued/repainted figures. Yet they'd have to have higher production runs than anything Master Collecter will ever do.

Out of 7 six-packs for 2005, the only one that contained rediscovered molds was Winter Operations, which oddly was the least liked of all. "Green shirts" used an existing retooled head that hardly seemed new. So really 4 figures (Stalker, "Avalanche", "Blizzard", and most of arctic Snake Eyes) out of 42 figures!

Comic packs, lots of new head. But only parts of Hawk, Buzzer, Ripper and Thrasher's bodies are previously unseen in the past 5 years (excluding con sets). 4 figures out 21. Thankfully there were 17 new heads made.

Dude, this is hilarious. And seems very true.

The 12" collectors are swell and all, and to each thier own, but its time the smalljoes got some recognition now.

and as for joining the club just to get discounts---yeah its a croc. Sure it might be more worth it IF they ever have several exclusives a year, but as for now I am paying $36 for a jungle viper and a couple of small newsletters once a month (or 2 months) that seemingly only contains about 5-10% of info on the hobby I enjoy in the first place!

No kidding, who IS "searching" for these old molds?

Out of 7 six-packs for 2005, the only one that contained rediscovered molds was Winter Operations, which oddly was the least liked of all. "Green shirts" used an existing retooled head that hardly seemed new. So really 4 figures (Stalker, "Avalanche", "Blizzard", and most of arctic Snake Eyes) out of 42 figures!

What about Barricade, Charbroil, Mutt (parts), Roadblock (v4), Flak Viper, Scrap-Iron (parts), Tracker, Downtown, Storm Shadow (v2), Stalker (v3), Salvo (body), Laser Viper (v1), Major Bludd (v2), Rock Viper, B.A.T (v2), and Over Kill (v1)? Of ALL the 6-packs, that makes 20% of the slots with previously unseen molds. Nearly 40% if you consider JUST the molds themselves.

The problem is we are seeing the same characters (regardless of mold) all the time and not JUST in 6-packs. Tunnel Rat, Firefly, Duke, Snake Eyes, Stalker, Storm Shadow, etc. I mean we aren't getting Sub-Zero, we are getting friggin' Snake Eyes! Did we need TWO Firefly in the CG sets? Given that, who doesn't think it would have been easier to include both twins in a single set and dump Firefly?
