Ok thursday I saw rots and what bugged me was the end when the evil trio was looking at the frame of the death star. How could it take 17 years to make the first time and then have the seond made in such a short time? was the death star finished that many years before anh ? anyone have any ideas?

Well here's a couple theories....

1. The 2nd Death Star could have actually been started just a few years after the first one was started.

2. The first one could have taken a really long time due to the Emperor still needing to continue his take over of the galaxy and locking everything down, then by the time he needed the 2nd one, he had so much control he could just access the resources he needed alot easier and thus push a faster production time.

I have always thought that maybe the Empire had planned on having more than one death star cruising the galaxy at once. It would be difficult for one station to monitor the entire galaxy.

After seeing the trailers (The scene with vader and palps looking out into space) I thought we might actually see both death stars being built, with one being further along in construction.

Also, after doing something once, isn't it usually easier to do it the second time?

Maybe it was harder to get the proper funding for the first one.

well if you went by funding then it would be more likely that the death star 2 would have had a harder time if the first one ways destroyed so easily by a rookie rebel pilot, but I really don't think funding was a problem. palpy could do what ever he wanted, it was his empire.

But for the first Death Star he still had the Senate to deal with, even though it was an Imperial Senate. By the time it came to build the second DS he had desolved the Senate and could then appropriate the funds without any checks and balances.

What I dont get is, why did they build this one's outer shell first... yet, in RotJ, the send death star is being built differently... with this, I think that I'd have to go with the idea that the first one was real hard to build, and then after learning their flaws and all that, the second was a lot easier to build...

What would be even cooler is, for those who read some of the books, they actually visit an area where Tarkin was when they were constucting the death star, and there was still a steal frame of one, I dont remember if it had the laser or not, but it'd be cool, if the one in the movie was THAT one in the book(which, if I remember, it was a test one).. now that'd be cool... though, I doubt it, lol
