this link has the first look of Superman from the new movie SUperman Returns.

I dont know but I wanna laugh when I was looking at this pic but I just can't point out whats wrong. I tought it was becoz the tiny chest plat but then I looked at the Hush SUperman next to my computer, it doesnt seem like the reason. Maybe its the angle of the pic......... @smilepunch@

The thing that strikes me as the most off is that the collar is just too high/tight. Given that the cape attaches to the collar, that means the cape also attaches up at the side of his neck now, instead of at the front of the shoulder. It really just looks... wrong. A cape is something that you wear over shoulders, not just hanging down your back from your neck (uh, not that I frequently wear one, or anything).

I'd probably prefer the symbol being larger, and don't see the need to repeat it on the belt buckle (it's redundant, distracts from the single iconic shield), but really, other than the collar thing, the costume looks good.

I said this on another board. I don't know what everyone's problem with it is. That is Supermans outfit (blue jump suit, S stmbol in middle of chest, Red cape and undies, Yellow belt) I mean thats it. I read some people say colors are off and I can kinda see that but they can't be to off since thats blue and red. I don't want this to sound like I'm bashing anyones opinion, I'm not, thats what message boards are for. But like I say thats Supermans outfit.

My only issue is the size of the symbol. I like the darker shades, I like the 3 dimensional synbol, but it should be larger. Of course, he cites alot of the really early stuff as influence, and tht symbol was smaller, if I remember correctly.

Should translate well to film.

It doesn't look too bad. The only gripes I have are the size of the symbol (I think it should be larger) and the belt buckle. I think it will look good on screen though.

Looks like crap to me. The S symbol sucks, the red is way to dark and the boots dont look like they even fit. If this is the final product I am very disapointed. Even the cape looks like it is made of vinyl or leather or something. The cape is suposed to be light and airy blowing in the wind.

I'm really disappointed with it. Routh is too lanky for the contemporary Superman (yes, I know Supes originally wasn't all that big). The Red is too dark and the symbol being 3D just looks like a bad halloween costume. An embroidered symbol is better, and brighter red. Also, the "red undies" seems a little too small. They need to be larger and the belt needs to be higher and the texture isn't necessary.

Well I'm going to agree with most and say the shield is a bit small. Maybe they can still go in and alter it a bit before they shoot Routh in the suit. The red is a bit dark but then again it could be the lighting in the picture that causes the red to be darker. The cape attachment is a bit different but not a huge problem. I like the shield on the belt actually. Instead of taking focus away it reinforces the focus. You KNOW this is Superman. The smaller underwear is another plus in my book because you're not supposed to think about it being underwear so making it smaller draws less attention to it. And as for Routh himself, I can't see how anyone here could tell me he doesn't fit the part when the only men alive today who could play profession sport or wrestle for Vince McMahon and we all know they're not the norm. This is a realistic depiction of a fictional character and I think they're trying to go the route of, "if Superman were real would he really look like he does in the comics? Pansy red booties, underwear on the outside, giant shield on his chest shouting out who he is as if we don't already know?" It's a realistic re-interpretation and I'm quite sure is subject to some change. Nonetheless I'm just friggin happy we have a Superman.

Im surprized by the leather cape. And this belt seems to be too low!

Here's the changes I would make:

Logo bigger, Actor BIGGER, "red undies come higher & belt come higher, colors brightersupermandchangecomp.jpg

There!! That's perfect!! Why couldn't they do that? The original looks like that lame 30's show. Hell, I think Chris Reeve's logo was bigger then that one.

I honestly dont know what to say. Since i fell like it preserves the classic touch, it seems to 1980. Maybe a completely new look would of been maybe better, but then again, many would surely raise their voices with the dislike. But i am sure with time, they would come to love it.

Take He-man for example, 1980 look appeared great with the 2002 design, but according to MAttel, it didnt catch with todays generation. When the gave him the snake armor, many complaind but in time, ajust to it and loved it.

I love Glaken look if the classic costume remains.

not too mention I know Supes isn't a bodybuilder...but Routh just looks funny in this picture as Superman... like his legs are much wider than his upper body, makes Superman look strange. He doesn't look very imposing, and again I know he's not suppose to look like some muscle bound bad ass...but it's either the angle or Routh... he just looks bad in that suit.
