Gijoe Newsletter From Mastercollector

JayC

Recommended Posts

Mr. Savage from MC has asked that all of you that have signed up for this newsletter and apprently signed something agreeing to keep confidential the info in said newsletter, that you not go and repost that information or images on public forums like these.

Now I personally feel its foolish to keep information of this type contained to such a small number and to expect things like that wont leak on the internet is also a bit naive, however if you who did sign-up for the newsletter did sign an agreement to not repost the said info, then you really should respect that agreement. If for nothing more than that you basically gave your word to not do so when you agreed to that stipulation, and a man's word is very important.

So I have to ask if you are privey to such information, that you not spread it hear till as such time as they give you permission to do so.

Jay- I'm sure that you are referring to me. I have contacted Brian Savage personally, and am pursuing this further with him. I resent the inferences of theft that were made in his email to you and Beav over at Joecustoms, and deny his allegations of "using illegally obtained information". I have (for the moment) removed the pictures in question, until I hear back from him.

BTW, there is NO signed or verbal agreement for confidentiality that I am aware of as a paying member.

I tried to tell ya guys last time..

I am not sure what this is all about this time.. but if it is referrring to pics of the 4 figures shown so far, I would think Brian would want the pics released so that more of us would be inclined to buy a set

another reason i'm not a fan of mastercollecter, if they had it there way, we wouldn't know joe was on haitus unless we paid em!

I think it's funny how proper everyone's posts get when something like this comes up.

Anyway I'm not scared of the big bad MC so if you people that get these images wanna just pm them to me or email me with them I'll post them myself. I will keep your idenity secret too so they won't come and take away your GIJoes for posting these images.

It's completely silly for MC to get mad about images of products they want to sell leaking out. What, is seeing those images first the perk for paying for a membership?! How about changing the perk to a lower membership fee? I'm sure everyone would like that better seeing as how the images take about six post to get out.

And J-sea if you don't want me to post the images I get from here on out on TNI let me know and I'll keep them off of here.

This is really DUMB! If someone post information of anykind in print, video, or internet and someone does not plagerize it, claming it as their own, it is fair game for further reporting and passing the word on! And knowing Aly he probably even stated where and in what context he got any alleged pictures. What else do we need, an APA style reference page when we post pictures or quote eachothers' information?

The only thing I remember ever signing for anybody at MC is my creditcard bill.

Getting information about all aspects of Joe collecting is important to me and I am sure other collectors as well. And as of the last 5 months or so that I have been a member of this forum; it has provided more news and information than MC has in the past year.

CASE POINTS:

1. Canceling, opps I mean hiatus, of joe line. TNI

2. TRU exclusive Moray. TNI

3. Wave 3 singles and Wave 7 arrivals. TNI

4. ICE SABERS at TRU. TNI (why would MC suggest a competitor?)

5. Custom contests? TNI

6. General help in finding Joes at reasonable prices. TNI

I pronounce TNI a clear winner.

MATT

I think they're getting desparate: they know the Hiatius is going to hit their membership levels hard and want to try to squeeze every subscriptuion they can as a consquence.

I have no sympathy whatever for Mastercollector: their membership charges aren't really that high, but their "shipping" Charges for international members are simply appalling, this won't affect their bottom line too much for the Gi Joe club (as there are comparitvely few non US joefans), but I strongly suspect they're really going to notice a drop in Non-US members in the Transformers club since they took that over as a result of their prices.

I won't ever join the "Offical" Joe fan club because of the way MC does things. Even if I had the largest collection of Joes ever and was on first name basis with everyone at Hasbro and had written several books on the subject I STILL would not join cause I have little to no respect for them based on their actions and the way they handle very important news, like the hiatus.

This is all silly! I would think MC would want to let us see these so there is a good enough chance to get these or at least think about gettin them. I love to see these pics and it never stops me from gettin them!

I just thought that I would post why I am a member, cheaper price for the convention set plus opportunity to get another loose set for a cheaper price, good customer service: they have always helped me out and do it professionally, getting the news first about the hiatus, getting first hand look at the con set pictures (which I consider a privlage in being a member), and last for the conventions: they work very hard at the conventions for all the collectors and members alike. Perhaps Brian and MC has something planned for members first to see for the con set as part of the membership, then post it on the sneak peak page at a later time?, Kind of like how George Lucas has they hyperspace (I think that is the name of the club) that offered the trailer to "members only". I just thought that I would add my opinion on this topic since no one seems to be saying anthing positive about the club that keep collectors collecting when GIJOE was not in all stores.

P.S. And for the exclusives ;)

Joe fanatics can really get on my nerves! The level of self important elitism constantly seems to reach new heights!

If the news of the "hiatus" doesn't cause enough people to boycott the convention, maybe the arrogant ass attitude of the folks at MC...WILL?

I for one will never join, their exclusives are never that great, and I think that's one of the main reasons they don't want that info leaked.

They want you to join the club thinking you'll be suprised by something great, but most people are like me, and turned off by the poor figure choices year after year.

I think MC understands this, and try to keep the figures a secret so as to get colllectors to join for the "mysterious" new figure.

I understand collector's clubs have a great deal of overhead, etc, etc, etc. But the cost won't go down if more people join, if anything, they'll increase. Part of running a successful business is appealling to potential customers, and collector clubs seem to shoot themselves in the foot when it comes down to this part of the economics lesson.

Yeah...MC is being really cavalier about their "ownership" of information lately.

Truth be told, I was actually pretty "ho-hum" about these things until Alyosha posted what he did. Now, I might actually have enough time to save up whatever meager funds I can get from my work-study nightmare and, you know, BUY a set.

Then again, like Hasbro and, before them, Mattel, it seems that MC has a huge problem with people giving them money. Maybe it's something in the water, but I always thought that the idea was to /gain/ customers.

VH, I've got a couple of quotes from a reply from Brian Savage that might interest you as to how they feel about "online" collectors as compared to the club membership.  PM me and we'll talk.

I can't imagine WHAT "difference" they could possible think there is, other than you're either a member of the collectors club or you're NOT @hmmm@

Are they going to suggest that being a member of their exclusive club makes one just that much MORE a "REAL FAN"..?

Is there some sort of chip that gets inserted into a collectors club members brain after joining, that forces you to behave a certain way when discussing the hobby elsewhere online? @hmmm@

If I was to suddenly join, would my opinions suddenly have more weight?

This is the very kind of stuff that blows my mind about the hobby and some of the people I share it with. Spongebob states it best I think..

"GOOFEY GOOBERS!!"

.....spongebob9rm.png

@hmmm@ hmmmmm? doesn't look fanboy enough!

That's better! ^_^

I guess I'm not following the complete problem here, now that I've lurked around and caught others reactions to this notice.

There are already several posts HERE, regarding the images in the con set, which so far are the Anvils, Iron Grenadiers and Destro. Were we not to have seen those yet? @hmmm@

The posts either have a link to the mastercollector site, or a pasted image of the figures, after having been saved and hosted by the poster themselves.

Which part of this is all the hub bub about and causing the need for threatening notices from MC?

I'm not a member, yet if I go to the MC website, I can see the images as they're released. I don't see where any images have been posted BEFORE MC has officially posted them yet. Do the members get a 24 hour advance viewing before the figures become accessible by the poor peasant Joe fans?

I don't know that I've even seen that happen yet, so I guess I'm confused (once again) about what some Joe fanatics are boo hoo'ing and crying about!

Yeah Vh, that's basically it. They were pissed off because I saved the pics of Destro & the IG and put them up here a day before they "officially" put them on their site. As soon as my Jungle Viper arrives, I'm cancelling my membership. I've had it with elitist attitudes and people saying "I'm more of a fan than you are because _______ (insert stupid statement here)". Having the guy who ruins Mastercollector tell me in so many words that since he can't see that I've been to a Con that I don't know what I'm talking about (I was at Kansas City back in 2001), and that the opinions of people other than club members don't mean anything to him pretty much just brasses me completely off.

Oh, and to the croney who is on this board and reporting everything I say to Brian personally: Learn how to quote me directly if your going to be a brown-nosing sh*t head.

Dude...someone's been selling you out? What is this, the fourth grade?

To hell with MC if they want to be elitist tools. I guess I'll just spend that $200 for the convention exclusive on video games...Castlevania for the DS and Curse of Darkness for PS2 are coming out, and since Joe is effectively dead for me right now (with the last nail being driven by Master Collector's dictatorial behvaior), I have nothing better to do with it, so...

There is something called freedom of information. When someone buys a magazine, it is theres to do with as they please as long as they give credit to the source.

I have to say that is complete non-scence for someone to be ratting/telling on you. I would have thought they would have notice on their own and then responded (if they knew who you really were) instead of having someone tell on you. That is completly stupid! On these boards people should be allowed to express their opinions, BUT not get into other peoples business (like ratting on people).

I wonder how many members went and joined the club after it was talked about, "advertised & promoted" HERE and all around the other sites as well?

I doubt MC had to pay anyone to spread the word for them of the deadline in which to join, or it's extension till that Friday, yet now they're sending threatening notices to all the same sites that promoted their club, free of advertising fees, FOR them, and this is how they're going to treat everyone for keeping the interest in the convention and it's exclusive set ALIVE, by continually ADVERTISING the sets! <_<

I understand the little jolly fans can get from feeling "privileged" in receiving news and updates, about the secret underground world of G.I.Joe, the terrorist fighting organization, but to what ridiculous extent do these types of htings REALLy have to go?
