Imperial Set Alternatives

Lost Viper

Recommended Posts

Ladies and gentlemen,

I put forward to you that Hasbro have lost the plot.

Fact 1:

Cancelling the 3 3/4 line (when Sima Six would have made a fine set to AUGMENT not REPLCE the 3 3/4).

Fact 2:

This new Cobra set.

Ill thought out, badly executed, poorly armed (any one else noticed that??). Metallic red??? Are they insane?? Military terrorist organisation of evil - HELLO!!

Thus, assembled peoples, how about we list our alternatives to this set.

Customs - kit bashes - whatever - just post them!!

Okay, here's an idea to start with, more a thought - Range Vipers suck.

Full stop - they suck.

They sucked when they used the heads for Rock Vipers - they still suck now.

Another baroness and CC?

Please...

So, instead of them - lets try these figs.

1] Flag bearers x 3

How about the chest from this CC:

http://www.yojoe.com/action/03/images/cobr...r14_large.shtml

The head from either:

http://www.yojoe.com/action/04/images/infa...er3_large.shtml

OR - if you include trumpets - it's an Imperial Procession here people:

http://www.yojoe.com/action/90/rockviper.shtml

Legs from any of the Neo Vipers.

Upper Arms from the Sand Vipers (with those cool logos on the shoulders painted in either red or gold):

http://www.yojoe.com/action/05/images/sand...er4_large.shtml

Lower arms from Neo Vipers (cool gloves):

http://www.yojoe.com/action/03/images/neov...er6_large.shtml

Repaint in blue with black gloves and high gloss black boots - and there you have 2 flag bearers/ trumpeters.

2] Flag Bearer Commander.

As above - but with the red cape attached to the old CC body and a gold cobra logo in his chest.

3] The Cobra Emperor (makes sense - yes??)

Serpentor.

New Body scult from the comic packs (maybe a new head would be nice):

http://www.yojoe.com/action/05/images/serp...or3_large.shtml

Repaint darker green and a golder yellow - and an Emperor is born!!

4] Either Tele Viper or Major Bludd repaint: http://www.yojoe.com/action/00/majorbludd4.shtml

OR -

Something a bit out of left field.

CC's body guard and enforcer -

The old Croc Master (head and arms) - Funskool:

http://www.yojoe.com/action/87/crocmaster.shtml

Horrorshow's body:

http://www.yojoe.com/action/05/comicpack7/...showlarge.shtml

Rock Viper's arms:

http://www.yojoe.com/action/90/rockviper.shtml

CC's legs and crotch:

http://www.yojoe.com/action/03/images/cobr...r14_large.shtml

Repaint in blue with Red cobra logo or black with silver cobra logo!!

Accessories -

- Black AK-74s from the NeoVipers x 4

- Cobra Staff for Serps:

http://www.yojoe.com/action/03/cobracommander14.shtml

- Open to suggestions on the enforcer's weapon - maybe the staff from the Royal Guard:

http://www.yojoe.com/action/87/royalguard.shtml

... and an Imperial set is born.

Now i've never done a custom - but to be honest - this crappy Imperial set of Hasbro's which could have been AWESOME has got me in the mood.

Anyway - maybe some of you who do excellent customs could give this or your own idea a go - would love to see them!!!

... if you like the new set - then that's totally cool - if not this is an ALTERNATIVE.

Like it if you must, and that's fine, we're all differnet and stuff - but for those who don't this is an exercise to come up with something new...

They should have just threw in some more Siegies. Or maybe put the new Siegie head on the Battle Corps Crims Guard Commander body.

Awesome - like it!!

CG would be excellent!!

:)

2x of those and 2 flag bearers/ trumpety dudes...

I'm iffy about the colors, the more I look at it, looks like cheap costume jewelry or something, but that may be the brightness of the pictures.

I'd have dumped the standard guys for 2 ye olde Cobra Officers (comic pack, since the TRU ones are MIA) in red and 2 Crimson Guard Immortal, and not in metallic red. I might have gone with 1991 CC instead of comic pack. I'd keep Baroness, I guess.

Or I'd have made 4 Cobra-La Royal Guards (recast as some sort of V-troop), Nemesis Enforcer (the same) and either Serpentor or Ven. Max. (made out of Street Fighter Blanka).

It'd be interesting if they had did like the CG pack, alternated characters in 2 different packs, one with CC and Baroness, the other with maybe Tomax and Xamot, or Serpentor and Interrogator or somebody. I'm surprised they didn't do something like that again with this set or the Joes.

the ak's handle is too thick for RAH. For some reason there's a thinner handled version, came with Scalpel, but they don't use it.

Im fine with the new set. Its not perfect but its nothing a change of gear and a smidge of paint cant fix.

Bring it on. It certainly could have turned out a lot worse.

Im curious as to what the troops are gonna be called. And as for "Another CC and Baroness" The word "Imperial" denotes the top leaders. And Baroness and CC *ARE* amoung the highest ranking characters in Cobra. So the name is applicable. The metallic red and gold might not be suitable for day to day operations, but this looks like a ceremony of some sort. So it would stand to reason an egomaniac like CC would be dressed flashy.

I don't like the Imperial Set at all.

Number one, it's not Imperial, because it has CC, not the COBRA Emperor.

Number two, I don't like the troops. I would have been fine with Cobra troopers, painted in red or something.

I DO like the red CC and Baroness though. But overall, this is a fairly uninspiring set. I like the custom ideas better.

Actually for all intents and purposes Cobra Commander *IS* figuratively Imperial. While he may not be called an emperor, he still is the highest power in Cobra, like an Emperor in a kingdom would have no one over him.

It would be in perfect accordance with Cobra Commanders megalomania to refer to a setup like this as an "Imperial Procession"

The name of the set fits it's intended context.

As for the only person to actually call himself Emperor, Serpentor's dead. (Devils Due continuity doesnt count) And Emperor was a more figurative rank, as he at best only commanded Cobra briefly, other than that he was little more than the head of a FACTION of Cobra that wanted to wrest control from Cobra Commander.

I think the set is garish and poorly put together. The red just doesnt work on the battle armor cc body, and the Range Viper heads are just silly. I feel like they just didn't spend any time thinking things out. The flags and stuff are cool but the figures blow IMO. I don't know why the refuse to fully frankenstein a figure, instead of just swapping heads most of the time.

Well said Doc! And I love the Range Viper head. One of my fav RA Cobra heads. I picture these guys like Royal Guard's in Star Wars. Still, silent but freaking deadly.

Thank you.

My only real nit to pick with the troops is they should have just used the entire armor CC body. It looks a little disjointed with the torso armored but not the legs.

Just say its based off Fred VIIs original design, but not as powerful, with self-destruct mechanisms CC can trigger vocally if the guard gets any funny ideas to turn on him. So they HAVE to give 110% to protect him, their lives lterally depend on it.

But otherwise I find it acceptable. You just gotta take the bad with the good. Otherwise youre gonna be miserable.

In case you didnt notice, the soldiers in the middle east wear turbans on thier heads!

i think thats alot more funnier than wearing metalic burgundy gear!

NOTE: THE IMPERIAL PACK is in the "celebration style" as if they were in a milatary march/parade/celebration.

I dont know what they are exactly celebrating, however.

perhaps the downfall of the 3 3/4" line?

You know I was nver really sold on the idea of the CG's as CC's bodyguard in the first place: if you're a power mad despot, your want the roughest, toughest close quarters fighting troops for you personal gaurds and so you choose to select them from the ranks of..... your undercover agents?

Actaully I rather like the new-series Python Patrol figures as CC's Bodygaurd, the gold, black and Red looks suitably flashy and Rock Vipers, Lamprey's and VVV Vipers are exactly the kind's of troops I'd want in my bodygaurd
