Tru Var Night Creeper W/ Red White & Blue Camo?

While cruising Ebay I came across this auction:

Where does this guy come from? This definitely is not the Night Creeper from the recent Urban Strike Force set, which had a grey, white and black camo scheme.

Is this thing frankensteined from other Joes?

Edit: The same seller seems to have several other recent figures (Storm Shadow, Scrap Iron, Firefly etc. also in this came scheme. What's the deal? Was the Urban Strike Force originally going to come in these colors?)

The general consensus is that these are "factory made fakes" or "after hours specials" ie: made in the same factory with the same molds, but unofficially with the modified Colour schemes specifially make them more attactive on eBay as "rare vairants" on the collecting market.

These will almost always have the same paint patterns on them as a offical release, but with in different colours, sometimes only slightly different, other times signifcanlty so.

Hasbro heard our complaints about Firefly being included in the CG 6 packs, so they are substituting this figure - the Crimson Ninja! The Crimson Ninja will still have all of Firefly's gear however, making it useless as a ninja. :P

** The above was sarcasm and is not in any way indicitive of where that figure is really from **

Chances are, these figures were legitimate paint masks that were offered for the Urban set. However, they were rejected and we got the retail release versions instead. (Chances are, TRU nixed it due to their planned crimson exclusive and did not want so much red on all the Cobras.) The alternate Anti-Venom figures are probably the same.

Many figures in this seller's auctions are "Midnight Chinese" bootlegs that are not Hasbro approved paint masks. Those can be easier to spot as they are usually just color changes, not actual changes to a paint pattern.

Usually, these figures sell pretty cheap. They are an interesting addition to a collection, but nothing that I would consider to be rare. There are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of them and they are slowly making their way into collector hands.

Thank god they went with the one that they did for the Urban Strike Team.

Although, I must say that the two alternate AV colors weren't that bad; some nice sky blue/maritime camos.
