Who Or What Built The Death Star?

I thought some of how the Death Star was built was covered in the book Darksaber. I believe in that book some Hutt wants to build a Superlaser but without the whole Death Star. I think it was built by these creatures who could communicate telepathically or something. It's been a few years since I read that book. The whole Superlaser thing they ended up buliding in the book was a hunk-o-junk and I think it ended up falling apart when they tried to use it.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Yeah I remember that book but it has nothing to do with how the two deathstars were built.

Here are some "official" bits from various guides made before Lucas decided to ignore all that has been done in the years before he made the prequals:

Death Star Prototype was built in the MAW installation, to test the theories behind the superlaser.

Death Star I was built by a penal colony (effectively using slave labor), which was then destroyed after the station was completed.

Death Star II was built in Endor orbit, my feeling is that droids and the Imperial equivalent to army engineers did most of the work, though I suspect large numbers of items (like Turbolasers and girding) were shipped in through Star Destroyers.

Now that Lucas is revising history, I'm not sure if the first two will still be "correct"

I'm still not happy that we haven't seen Z-95s or Dreadnoughts in the prequels.

I would think they will mention the Death Star again in the next movie. They introduced the plans for it in the last movie so presumably it will come up again in May. To what extent, we'll just have to wait and see.
