According to this article, Viacom will be cancelling SmackDown on UPN once it's contract expires. The article discusses future plans for UPN, and notes that SmackDown is not included in those plans.

Leslie Moonves, co-president and co-chief operating office for Viacom says, "It still makes us a decent amount of money...When you think about the powerhouses of CBS and NBC on Thursday night, it's great counter-programming. (But) it doesn't fit into the overall (programming) strategy."

I hope USA or someelse picks up the Show.

I don't even watch it anymore. If I DO manage to catch it, I get insulted by something like this Kurt Angle kidnapping thing, and it makes me want to watch a replay of tNa. Way to go, writers! Way to chase off a 20+yr fan!

Maybe it will finally move to SpikeTV and become a live tv show. It might finally put it on par with Raw that way.

If it for some reason goes to the WB, then it will get the same ratings it does on UPN. Hopefully this will end the brand extension though. I'm getting a little sick of a fourth of Raw seeming watered down and stretched out and 3/4's of Smackdown being that way.
