Shockblast's New Arm And His First Eye-test!

Was is easy to put the extra right arm in place of his huge left arm? Did you just have to unscrew them both and screw the new one it?

Yup.

You can't use the existing shoulder 'cause of the special ratchet-joint they used, but you can take the chest apart (4 screws on the bottom, surrounding the black waist swivel) and pull out the cannon shoulder.

The regular shoulder uses the exact same joint, so they're completely interchangeable.

I may or may not have to tighten the new arm's joints to support the cannon's weight, but I'll know for sure on that once I get the mods to the cannon done.

Dude - you have made Shockblast about 10 times better -

That kitbash totally rocks!

Color me highly impressed, and desiring that sort of custom level skill.... :)

Awesome work there - I would leave the cannon as it is though, since it's just an add-on at this point anyway.

This is true, but it isn't gonna just disappear into whatever little pocket-universe-hyperspace-black-hole-thing everyone else's accessories go to. ;)

When it isn't on his arm, it'll be mounted on his backpack. I'm also playing with the idea of connecting the cannon to the back of his shoulder (or something) via a cable/wire, to emulate G1's power-cabled arm.

If I do that, I'll probably connect the cannon LED to the eye's button. If not, I'm looking at making the new launcher trigger-lever operate a power switch for the LED when you press it to launch the missile.

So... since the cannon isn't really gonna be seperated from him, the green is still gonna clash a bit, I think.

Progress update!

I now have a soldering iron with extra tips! Two chisel-heads and one hot razor-knife. :D

Therefore, I've just completed the next stage of the cannon mod, and thought you guys might wanna see it. :)

I had been planning to make slots in the back of his arm to match these newly-cut tabs, then I realized that he already had holes to accomodate 'em!

Here, you can see the tabs inserted into the pre-existing holes, located immediately in front of the shield-gun mount:

I had to cut this hole in the battery-cover to accomodate his thumb. The thumb doesn't protrude past the surface of the cover, and won't be particularly noticeable after I paint the cannon black (with either chrome or purple chrome highlights). Also, I saw some liquid plastic (plastic dip for pliers handles and such) that I might be able to brush on around the edges of this and the arm hole.

The elbow joint is just ever-so-slightly too weak for this. It'll hold the cannon up in a pose, but the slightest jarring makes it drop. I've got a couple ideas for firming this up, but that can wait for now.

That's it, for now! Next step: cleaning up those ugly, jagged edges, then on to installing the new launcher mechanism and LED to light up the solar-panels and Energon "claw".
