Changes You Would Make To The Original Trilogy

I would have posted this in the thread already open for the original trilogy being released on DVD, but seeing that thread is already almost a year old, I figured I would start fresh.

 

Anywho, we are just a little over a week from the release of the original trilogy being released on DVD, and know there have been more changes made to them. I know many fans would rather see them released in their original forms, but seeing that GL wants to change them to tie better with the new trilogy, I was thinking of some other changes I would have liked to see made, and wondered what additions you would have thought had been interesting.

 

Mine go like this:

 

Episode IV: A New Hope

-Temuera Morrison redub all lines by Stormtroopers

-Pit Droids added to the collection of droids the Jaws offer for sale to the Lars' homestead.

-Shmi Skywalker and Cliegg Lars's grave markers added to the Lars' Homestead

-Change the looks the the lightsaber hilts to look as they do in the new trilogy (Obi-Wan and Luke's should look the same as Obi-Wan and Anakin's in Episode III), assuming they don't

-Add an older Watto as a patron to the Catina scene, perhaps looking at Luke as though he sences something familiar about him.

 

 

Episode V: Empire Strikes Back

-Temuera Morrison redub all lines by Stormtroopers and Boba Fett

-Have Yoda refer to Luke as a Padawan

 

Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi

-Add Sebulba to Jabba's Palace, and killed when Jabba's Sail Barge explodes (Fitting to have Anakin's old nemesis killed by his children)

-Also have another Hutt in the scene in Jabba's Palace.

-As the Sail Barge is heading out toward the pit, have an old wreckage from a Pod Racer in the background

-New Line of dialog by Vader, refering to Palpatine as Darth Sidious

-After Luke turns to join the celebration after seeing the Jedi Ghosts, have Qui-Gon and Mace Windu appear behind the others, along with a few other Jedi

Those are all awesome ideas! Here are some of mine:

 

 

Episode IV: A New Hope

- They need some of the ships in Episodes 1 and 2 to appear in some of the outspace scenes (the ships in Episode IV look so outdated)

- Add some of the characters and landscape in Tatooine that were created in EP 1 and 2

- Add some speeders and ships from EP1 and 2 that are junked in Tatooine

- Cooler explosions. I know they made them better but they still need work

- Some more references to EP 1 and 2

 

Episode V: Empire Strikes Back

- Add in some Republic Walkers that appeared in the end of EP 2 to the snow scenes

- Yoda needs some souveniers from the Clone Wars in his pad...like some Clone Helmets, head of Jango, etc.

- The Bounty Hunters need more play in the movie

 

Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi

- Not sure yet

I would have also mentioned more references to the new trilogy, but given the age of the movies, it would be hard to change dialoge, or add new scenes featuring the nonmasked characters, such as Luke and Obi-Wan. Dialoge changes with Vader, Stormtroopers, and Boba Fett would work since their mouths are unseen. Characters like Yoda can be manipulated through CGI, or just reshooting with the old puppet.

 

I would have loved to see an extended scene in RotJ, where Obi-Wan goes into a little more detail about Anakin's past, maybe even about how Qui-Gon saw Anakin's potential to be a Jedi. Perhaps even telling Luke a little about Padme, in addition to telling him about Leia. Unfortunatly, even if they could CGI a scene so the Obi-Wan's mouth would match the words, it wouldn't sound right without the Late Sir Alec Guinness providing the voice.

I forgot about the battle droids. It would make sense that the Jawas might have a couple of them as well. Perhaps even a few functioning Battle Droids serving the Empire. Painted black, like the rest of the Imperial droids.

I'm not a particular fan of the idea that ALL the stormtroopers are clones by the time Ep IV starts. I'd bet the clone DNA would be deteriorating by that time. Keep their voices the same. I like to think that Stormtroopers in ep IV might be individuals who joined the army and have to work their way up the ranks.

 

Defininitely need to add in some droids and characters like Watto, maybe even an older, wiser Gungan leader in the Rebel Briefing before the Death Star II battle.

As far as changes to the OT I would replace all computer screens and holos to match the prequels.

Oh yeah I forgot to say that was the only thing I didn't like. I prefer that not all Stormies are clones now. It makes it more interesting that some are regular guys imo. So no on the change of the voices.

While I'd love an Theatrical DVD, I am looking forward to seeing the changes and I love some of your changes.

 

I just don't like the fact that he will not give us the chance to choose. Or even to sell Thea. with Spec and make it so we have to buy his way if we want the original.

-Scenes of Luke hunting wamp rats..in his TC-14.

-Maybe Obi-won checking up on Luke in Tattooine, or Touche Station.

-A Sandtroopers attacking the Jawas...

-A battle between Jawas and the Tusken Raiders...

 

Episode V: Empire Strikes Back

-Snowtroopers attacking rebel troops through ground assualt with Vader behind them...

-More Jedi training between Luke and Yoda.

-More scenes with the Bounty Hunters

 

Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi

-Boba Fett not falling into the pit of Sarlak, or him fly out of it, so we can get a Boba Fett type movie or stories...

Well first of all before I put up my list, because it seems scarligse (sp) even to me, I would want Lucasfilm to release the orginal Trilogy as they were first seen back in 70s and 80s. Also I want to say that since the prequels where done the way they were, that is why my list is radical. It was Lucas crutch like dependance on CGI, instead of the more tradtional SFX that he used in OT that make me suggest some of the stuff that Im about too...So try not to bite my head off too bad. =P

 

 

Episode 4: A New Hope

 

-Gut the movie and remove all SFX post production shots. Replace with more Prequel like SFX. That means that every Spaceship, every dogfight...all that would be replaced. Also some production shots would need to tweaked a bit to fit into the new "Style."

 

- All Stormtroopers lines rerecorded by Temuera Morrison*

 

-Entrance into Mos Eisley should be shorten. It was too long and showy.

 

-Extend the Cantina Scene to show a more variety of Creatures. These could be added the say way that some of the orginal Cantina guys where added in 76. Build a Booth, and then shoot a varitey of alien and then have place holders for CGI creatures as well. These could then be intercut with the stuff we already saw.

 

-Maybe have a Battle Droid in the "Droid Auction"

 

-Destruction of the Death Star redone, to be more exciteing and get rid of the Praxus shockwave ring. Alderran redone in a simlar way.

 

- Greedo shoots first restored.

 

- Do some rescoreing, not a totally new Score, but just some minor changes here and there, plus new paceing for the newer special effect shots.

*= I've heard a lot of "The Stromtroopers are full of Recruits by the time of ANH, and also that the reason the voices were not changed wa because it would give Luke and Han away. But Lucas himself has said all Stormtroopers are clones...and their voices DO give them away. You'll note they do not talk untill they have too, the first time Luke and Han in disguise talk to an Imperial is in the Dentention block. And the Officer on duty suspects something is up almost as soon as Luke Speaks. Plus they get a lot of strange looks while walking around the Death Star. I always use to assume it was cause they were walking a Wookie around, but it might have been cause Luke was too short and Han was too tall, and had nothing to do with Chewy.

I'd like Jar Jar to be added into every other scene... you know, just plop him in there, in all three movies... even on degobah and hoth... hell, put him along side luke and vader on bespin...oh... and Dash Rendar too, add him everywhere...

I would like to see some droids and ships from the new movies in the older, and I like the idea about watto and sebulba, maybe even add some of the new animals on tatooine and in the cantina(actually I think this is hapening).

As far as redubbing all the voices, my bro downloaded some scenes where they were changed, one I can think of off hand is on bespin when 3PO runs into the stormtrooper... that was changed.

I really just want to see what George comes up with, I'll always have my originals to watch, so I dont mind the changes

Thanks guys....But like I said, I want the orginal unchanged movies on DVD as well. But since we are now commited to this new look from the PT the OT doesn't look the same and in order to bridge it drastic changes would have to be made. Although I don't like it...the PT should have looked "dated" to tie in with the OT.
