Anti Venom/rah Reissues Thoughts

Well I opened my set tonight. Still loving this set. I love the helmets. Its really cool how they have the names on them imo. Plus the emblom and flag. The Mutt figure is a slight dissapointment. I wish he had his original legs and arms. There does seem to be some molding issues i'll get to later. Then Charbroil is the best version yet imo. Just wish his hose was softer. It won't work since its to hard. Barricade is also the best version of the character ever. Then we have Lifeline. He's a nice figure minus the fact that he's Stretcher gone Michael Jackson on us. I think we should all call him Jacko. @loll@ Then we have Duke who also seems to have some molding issues. Plus the fact that he has Roadblock v1 lower arms with someone elses upper arms! They are not RB! And the upper arm is smaller than the lower arm. Finally we have the crown jewel! Roadblock! I have never owed this mold. On of the few I haven't. Boy have I been missing out! This is the best damn Roadblock mold ever imo and best version. The only flaw is the earing isn't painted. I'll fix that soon enough.

Now onto something I have noticed lately. A lot of the older molds mid 80's or molds used a lot like Big Ben's have major mold problems. Parts not fitting right, slightly titlted waist, etc. This is because of mold deteriation folks. Its because Hasbro is using them to much. Duke v1 parts, Alley Viper, Bat/Viper, Firefly, Big Ben, etc molds that have all been used a lot in the last 7 years all seem to be suffering from this problem this last year. Then they have loss of detail. On the other end we have molds like RB, Chaitbroil in the Anti Venom, etc that have hardly been used and they do not suffer from these problems at all. Its because the have not used a lot over the years. This just hit me tonight when I was opening my Anti Venom set. It makes me sad as the molds will only get worse as they get older and used more. I hope Hasbro starts pulling out some of those molds we know they have and start using them and give some of the old favs a break!

Finally we come to the end of my long ranting. I have discovered a way to fix Duke from the Anti V set! The figures arms look horrible. Its the fact that they don't look like cloth at all. So i'm sitting there looking at the AV figs and it hits me that Lifeline's arms look very similar to the original lost v1 Duke's arms! Excep more mucsle. And the fact that most medics are not that built anyway, I switched the arms! Now we have a kick ass Duke who can bust some Cobra ass next to Roadblock! Plus it doesn't hurt Lifeline at all, the arms look better on him than Duke. Try it guys and let me know what you think! If I had my scanner with me I would show you all pics but that is not with me at the moment. And any thougts on the reissues are welcome. But I still say go buy the AV set! It rocks overall.

Best review ever.

@smilepunch@

@loll@ Gee and I thought it would be my Jacko comment that got me some laughs.

Nice review. You make a good point about the molds wearing down. It sucks, but isn't there something Hasbro usually does before and after casting that involves cleaning/prepping the molds?

Yeah but its the molds themselve that are breaking down. I don't think cleaning them will stop that sadly.

i wasnt gonna pick up this set to tell the truth but i think i might now (i forgot barricade was in there) one of the good later joes! imo. as for charbroils hose, draven you might try playing with it a bit for a while maybe it will soften up???? ;) just a thought!

@hmmm@ I don't know what your implying TM, nope I don't. ;)

Anyway get the set. The set is better than it looks, especially if you fix the Duke problem.

Cool thanks for the review Draven, I get my set next week and will have to form my own judgement, from the looks of it- I am going to love this set. It is too bad about the molds however- but good things have to come to an end (unfortunately) and that sucks. It is better to retire the mold than to put out less quality figures in the future IMO.

They will have to permitely retire some of these molds soon if they don't stop using them so much. That's why I won't them to start using molds they haven't used much, ie Charbroil, AV Roadblock, etc.

If they're gonna use some of these molds so often, then they should recast them. If they think they are so popular and fan favorites, they should shell out the cash to make'em again and then continue to reissue/repaint them.

Tunnel Rat has been used twice recently already. SE v1 has been reissued, and will be reissued more times than I care to remember. That chest piece has been and will be used even more times, what with all the Stalkers, Hawks, Breakers, Grunts... etc. With all the Franken-Joe-ing that's been going on, these newly retooled molds could pay for themselves sooner or later.

Alot of the Cobra army builders are gold mines. They could remake 10-15 of the best and most popular molds and they'd probably rake it all in like the Infantry set.

Got to agree with you 8speed. I think Hasbro needs to recast some of the mold pieces. I think as you said it would eventually pay for it themselves.
