Real Issue #33 Spoilers, Read At Your Own Risk

I was at the Wizard Chicago Convention this weekend and picked up a copy of the issue.

First off, most everyone's prediction was right.  Hawk is not dead, was dreaming, and is paralyzed from the waist down.

Secondly, the paraplegia may be temporary as well as the bullet may be removed by some sort of specialist.

Thirdly, the mystery woman from the cover Hawk is carrying is his departed fiancee.  She apparently died in a car accident sometime before the Joe team was created when before Hawk was a General.

Lastly, no indication was given towards Cobra Commander or Destro's real status.

Additionally, the third part of the Phantom story reveals more of the origin of Charlie Halifax. It also shows Bludd and Scrap-Iron in apparent Iron Grenadier outfits.  It also shows a reaffirmed ruthless business side of Destro by having Wraith eliminate all potential competition.

The most important thing of this news is that the Joe Expert or whatever was dead wrong about most of things.  Happy reading to all!

There you go. #US1#

This was a pretty good issue. It was nice to see different Joes even though it was just a dream. Storm Shadow in the crowd of Joes was a dead give away, though the next panel was dead Joes.

I havent recieved it yet, storm shadow is in the dream?

I got to choose a couple people to be in the book and it turns out it was for that scene. I chose Hit N Run and Wreckage or Sabretooth (whatever you want to call him) so since he's just from the mask up he looks kinda generic but that's our little Tiger Force trooper! @propeller@

It was a good issue for one with no action. The opening dream sequence reminded me of the episode where Shipwreck gets stranded on and island and wakes up after a long coma but it it's actually all fake and everyone is a synthoid. It was all obviously a dream from the beginning of the issue. I'm glad Hawk isn't permanently paralyzed. I guess the bullett is just near his spinal cord causing swelling to squeeze it (as opposed to it being completely severed). I think we'll see Hawk up and around after a while (especially with that new figure coming out). I thought the Wraith story was awesome too. At first I thought it was an Army briefing about the guy who stole the suit. I didn't expect him to being hte room. That stealth technology is awesome (and based on some real stuff they are working on). I wasn't really digging Wraith ntil this issue. Great job!

I like the Wraith cover. I didn't care for the story.

Who cares about the General getting his balls cut-off by a bullet into his back and becoming paralyzed from the waste down because of it.

Everyone knows that he'll becoming back to the team.

I had hope they would've gone into some detail about Cobra Commander and Destro, and how effects that their situation will do to Cobra as a whole.

I guess we'll have to wait until the next issue.

I hope the writer will start writing more interesting stories and isolate them into a couple of issues that focuses on a single situation than on mutilple ones.

I am kind of getting tired of see the same characters and story format over and over again.

i thought it was a v1 SS in the panel w/ HnR...anyway, had to re-read this issue to appreciate it. it reads quick, and thta makes it feel like not a lot happens (and that's true in a sense, what with the wraith story taking up 7 or so pages...and they made him out to be badass, which is cool).

i'm not sure if they intended it to be, but (spoiler warning would go here if this wasn't a spoiler thread :) ) i thought the highlight of the issue was Hawk "confronting" cobra commander to have CC say that hawk made CC be what he is.

then reading over the old news clipping at the end and the part of the car accident...that made it sound like hawk's fiancee was CC's sister or something.

the only thing that the newspaper said is "LOCAL WOMAN KILLED IN AUTO ACCIDENT-Bank Clerk to wed Army Colonel in Less than a month"i have thought of the possibility that this is cobra commander's sister but that would not make sense because hawk was the one that told snake eyes that his family had been killed by the drunk driver(cobra commander's brother) he would have been very sad if his fiance had been killed in that same car crash. however, it would be cool if there was some connection somewhere...

Wraith....not so much. Just doesn't fit well in my joe-verse. I agree with JayC, a little too iron man or war machine. Before anyone jumps on my case about this title being full of unrealistic things, so Wraith is the next step, just let me say that I think its not that he's unrealistic, but rather that he is too superhero-ish.

As for the Hawk story, I love it. I think Jerwa created an issue that will stand out as a classic in the joe comic mythos. I also think its the first issue of the DD comic that will join that mythos.

The only thing I didn't like about the issue was the art. I like Tim Seeley, he's a friend of a friend, but I feel his art is too inconsistent. One page or panel looks great, and the next looks like those last few issues of the old Joe run. I hope he works to become more consistent.

Actually, on the subject of art, the art was really the only thing I liked about the Wraith segment.

I feel like these issues are so short now-a-days. It seems like I start reading them and 5 minutes later I'm done. Whenever I pick up a back issue from the eighties, it's at least a 15 minute read. I feel like we're getting gipped.

The Wraith ending was kinda cool, but the rest of the book was a waste for me. It was way to obvious that the whole thing was some kind of dream and the only surprise was if Hawk would live or not. This book was filler and that's all. Let's get on with the story.
