i understand customizing and recoloring, so whats the difference in the term kit bashing?

It's a form of customization - and originates in the field of plastic scale model kits - hence the term KIT bashing.

 

Basically, you would take two model kits, say two different types of tanks, and take pieces from one and add/replace on the other... For example, making a version with a bigger gun, or whatever.

 

When you talk about stuff like Transformers, basically you're talking about taking Optimus' head and hands or whatever, adding them to, say, a Smokescreen body, etc.

I've never done what many would call major kitbashes where making what looks like a completely different figure out of two or three or even using model kits/gundams for one but I have kitbashed weapons, basically make something that wasn't meant for a figure useable for said figure here are two examples

I consider kitbashing to be actaul changing of the toy it self... not just painting it like most... painting to me = just a custom

That's exactly true.

Like I consider my custom Megs more than just a repaint since I removed his shoulder cannon and gave him his G1 style fusion cannon.

 

However my Hoist in Devastator colours is just a repaint. As will be my La.......... actually, I'll keep my fingers on my lips until it's finished

Here's a good example of a kitbash. The creator of this masterpeice added articulation to the Constructicons individually aswell as Devastator.

 

They all still transform and are more or less cartoon-accurate now.

I was wondering how to customize ball-joints - Bionicles! Man, this website's great... I think I'll end up reworking that ol' Devastator after all.
