Not suprised with Mobile Suit Gundam and Neon Genesis Evangelion being 1 and 2 and i'm glad Tetsuwan Atom made it up there. Can't agree with placing Astroboy Tetsuwan Atom up so high though, same with

Medarot or Vision Of Escaflowne.

 

As for TF's ranking, I would have expected the original series to atleast make the top 20. Beast Wars I would have thought top 50.

Well, if I remember, this was a Japanese poll voted by Japanese. I am not surprised one bit at how high the various Gundams placed, and am surprised that Beast Wars even made the list.

Brain Powered at #4 is rather interesting. I just the entire 26 episode series for about $27 off of Rightstuf.com. I haven't seen it yet, but it's from the creator of the original Gundam series.

 

Escaflowne is good, but I have a problem calling it mecha.

I think the poll is pretty much dead on as far as placement of the original series goes, although I would swap a few series falling above it in the ratings with those below. For example, there's no way UFO Robo Grendizer should take a backseat to both G1 and BW. They're not even in the same class.

Medarot is good stuff, IMO. (Known as Medabots here in the states) The humans aren't drawn that well, but the bots rock. Gotta love the attitude of the main character's robot.

I agree with two out of the three: Mazinger Z blows away both Macross and the original Transformers. Getter Robo, however, deserves to be ranked higher than Mazinger Z. It's an all-around better show, IMO.

Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse cartoons aren't 'great' shows. 'but if you poll the general populace, they'll be ranked #1 and #2. Mazinger Z is the Mickey Mouse/Bugs Bunny of the 70s Super Robot genre, while Getter Robo is Donald/Daffy Duck.
