What I'd Like To See From Hasbro

Recommended Posts

These are a few ideas I thought of for GI Joe if I were in charge. Let me know what you think of my ideas and feel free to post your own :)

1-Quit making figures like SE, Duke, Beach Head, etc... every 2-3 waves and start reintroducing lesser-know figures or making new ones (like new chars in the DD comic)

2-No more gimmicks unless it is relevant to the figure (examples: removable arms on BATs, Zartan's color change feature), and doesn't detract from articulation or appearance in any way.

3-Less sci-fi in the line, but there still needs to be SOME sci-fi for GI Joe to be viable. I sort of like what they did in the 80's; They sort of imagined the military the way it might be in 15-20 years and based their figures and vehicles on that. Many vehicles were based on real military vehicles, with modifications (the Rattler and Mauler to name a few)

4-Troop builder packs. I would also make generic troops on the GI Joe side as well. They would be based roughly off of real military soldiers. You might have Desert troops, Navy SEALS, Infantry, etc... If a Cobra trooper MUST be packaged with a Joe, it should be a troop-builder as well. My logic for this: GI Joe isn't always going to solo Cobra. It seems far more realistic to me that on large-scale battles, regular troops will make up the bulk of US forces with GI Joe being in the roll of "Special Forces" or even as advisors.

5-Rank. Very improtant in the military, it'd be nice to see some form of logical ranking system in both Cobra and Joe. I know the Joes sometimes are listed with rank but they really screw it up royaly. Example: Why is it that the orignal team members from 82 are still lower enlisted?? In the real military, if you're an E-5 for 20 years you are really really screwing up somewhere. (mandatory retirement kicks in before that I believe)

6-Have a seperate line of figures based off of real troops/historical figures. Sort of like what the 12" line has done for years and BBi is doing now. Wouldn't 3 3/4" WW2 figures be awesome? In any case, it would provide Hasbro endless material for figure design without having to go into wacko sci-fi stuff.

7-Use the new sculp style figures over RAH type, but make the figures proportionate. No Alley-Viper II type figures (there's no excuse for that Hasbro). I'd also add a bit of articulation, the swivle wrists especially are great and make posing with a rifle much better. The figures would also be scaled down a bit so they match the size of the RAH figures.

8-Repaints, We all (generally) hate them, but they are necessary to recoup the cost of making a sculpt. That having been said, make repaints logical, and don't go overboard with them. Examples:

For Cobra troop builders, a figure sporting a different-colored uniform might be a higher rank. Repaint figures for themed sets (like TRU is doing now) Night Force, Artic, Desert. Jungle, Urban, etc themed repaints would be nice. I thought the Walmart exclusive sets did an excellent job of this, even though the colors were a bit off.

Anyway that's my Ideas for fixing things in the line (Sorry so long!) Let me know what you think :)
