Update Recap: Austin, Hogan, Goldberg, Dx, Nwo!

Recommended Posts

The following is an update on the possible returns/debuts of various wrestlers, as well as angles:

- At this point, most sources still expect Steve Austin and WWE to reach a deal for a return. While it may take longer than fans would hope, there are still optimists expecting Austin to work WrestleMania 21. On Off The Record, Vince McMahon passed the blame to Austin and also stated that Austin's only a shell of his former self and fans don't really want the current Austin.

- Goldberg has shown little interest in working with WWE, so is not likely to return over the short-term. He did not enjoy the day-to-day role in WWE.

- Vince McMahon still has no plans to bring back WCW in an angle, but has already used the Great American Bash name and is rumored to be using Road Wild or Halloween Havoc for the new October PPV. He has some ideas regarding WCW, but fears associating WWE with a failed brand will not work.

- Vince stated on Off The Record that he has no interest in re-signing Hulk Hogan, since he doesn't feel it's a worthy investment at this point.

- There are currently no plans at all for use of the ECW name; WWE has even let some copyrights run out.

- No plans are in the works regarding an nWo or DX return in WWE.

I'm glad to hear that they're going to let the WCW/ECW stuff go. They need to build new groups, not rehash the DX/NWO stuff again. The only thing I like is that they are bringing back some of the cooler PPV names: Great American Bash and Halloween Havoc (if that comes to fruition). I really want to see Starcade come back, just for the historical importance of what it was.
