i've heard him referred to as "traitorous" (at General Joe's review site)... is he? I never heard this about him... :(

he was a traitor in one of the gi joe episodes of the cartoon, but redeemed himself in the second part.

Just to stave off confusion, Dusty was never actually a traitor. He went on a deep cover operation that only he and Duke knew about.. but when a Cobra attak left Duke in a coma, the rest of the Joe team assumed his change of allegiance was genuine.

I've always assumed that Dusty was offered the money by EE and went and talked to Duke about it before accepting their offer (by the phone booth call) Duke and Dusty planned the whole 'traitor' scheme before he accepted Tomax and Xamot's offer of money. It may not have seemed to occur this way in the progression of the two episodes, but wasn't their a flashback that revealed the truth somewhere in the second episode?

NO way!

Straight Edge is correct.

Dusty never turned traitor at all. Him and Duke had the plan the entire time.. The pictures he gave Extensive Enterprises were part of the plan and totally worthless.

Dusty's mother was very sick, but could not afford a doctor. Tomax and Xamot approached Dusty about paying for his mother's treatment, if he would steal secrets for Cobra. The episode leads you to believe that he does. When the Joe team starts to suspect they might have a traitor, a mission is sabatoged, and Duke is severely injured. Just before slipping into a coma (he does this alot) he manages to say the words "Dusty is the traitor" then he falls unconcious. Shipwreck then confronts Dusty, whom he catches snapping photos of classified files with a Cobra camera, and begins beating him up. Dusty is put on trial, and sentenced to life in prison. En route to Levinworth, Cobra attacks the Joe convoy that is transporting Dusty, and rescues him. It seems that Cobra Commander was quite grateful for all the secrets that Dusty provided him, and wanted to offer him a place in Cobra. Dusty ends up sabataging Cobra's plans from the inside, and ends up back with the Joes. When Duke wakes up from his coma, he is finally able to explain that the whole "traitor" incident was only to trick Cobra into paying for Dusty's Mother's medical treatment, and the "secret files" that Dusty gave them was actually worthless, and the missions that Cobra had claimed victory with, were only "dummy" missions to make Cobra think the information was actually working.

but one thing to squabble with Blackjack.. the point of the trick was not to get Cobra to pay for Dusty's mother's medical bills. It was to infiltrate Cobra. Don't you think Duke would have just offered to help Dusty's mom himself rather than put a whole lot of Joes at risk?

Man, those Joes.

They planned the whole traitor scheme just to get Cobra to pay for Dusty's Bills. Now thats a fun thought. I mean, what else did they really suceed in doing? LOL.

I enjoyed this thread a lot. It's great when conversations like these break out. That episode in the first season, right? I know it's not on the current disc. Excellent two-parter.
