I Am Very Displeased

First before I begin my rant I would like to say I happen to like most of the Joe figures released over the last few years, even more so than alot of Rah figures but I just picked up the second wave of Valor vs Venom figures and I have to say I am very disapointed. I do like the new Destro figure but for the rest they are well lets say not that great. Baroness which I was looking forward to has terrible paint apps on it. The red paint on the cobra symbol on her cest looks like a 4 yr old painted it. Hi-Tecj actuallu looks decent but thanks to the sof plastic neither him or baroness can hold any weapons. Beachhead is cross eyed and his head seems to small for the body. The new Bat is the worst if any of the previous bast. If only it looked like the card art on the back. We wont even talk about Kamakura. Swamp Rat is fairly decent and well Alpine has shorts on. The Razor Trooper and Neurotoxin are just repains from the previous wave, there ok but a little soon for them to be re-relased already if you ask me. Anyway I have to honestly say this is the worst wave to be released since the 1st wave of non-oring Joe vs Cobra figures.

I thought we were in trouble again @smilepunch@ @loll@

Hey I'm with you on this JayC a friend of mine ordered wave 2 while I'm waiting for it to hit up in stores I'll be passing on the Destro cause I want a red collar one and plus I don't want that Kamakura. The High Tech is cool and I'll paint him up and the Swamp Rat I reall like and will army build him and at least fix up Alpine with a little custom magic and the Beachhead is pretty sweet, but overall I'm upset with the color application and choices and can only hope at Con time when our voices are heard this won't happen again

or at least this much..... @loll@

Well JayC, all I can say is welcome to the club.

It was very hard but after some careful consideration, I made the promise to myself.

If I don't like the product, I wont buy it.

This was very hard for me to do considering that I used to be a figure completist. The way I see it now is if we don't buy the crap that they make and we do buy the things that we like, they will sooner or later get the picture and hopefully, stop making crap.

I've not found any wave 2 VvV yet, but I've got that uneasy feeling about them, when I finally do.

The mood of the community has gone to crap lately anyway, so a lot of it, is probably more centered around the 'fun" being sucked out of the hobby for me than anything.

I'm totally uninspired with the figures right now, no customs, no dios, no pics, no nothin'! :(

A good shot of NEW 2-packs, always did the trick for me before, but I don't know about this one. Maybe the con will reveal some interesting, unpredicted surprises for the coming year.

Sorry to hear that JayC.

Some of the problems you mentioned,Baroness' Cobra logo,Beach Head's 'cross-eyes' are typical paint application problems...it's the luck of find figures with good ones.I have a Baroness that has a Cobra logo that is done quite nicely and a Beach Head that doesn't have the 'cross-eyes',but unfortunately he has some speckles along his sleeve of his glove's paint.

Alpine...I got no problems personally with him wearing shorts or the mold of the figure, even the plain yellow shirt.BUT,I think the color selection for the figure could've been better.Maybe a white-tan shirt with green and brown pants?Colors reminescent of his RAH version would've been awesome.

I like the new BAT,I intend to use them as 'stealth' BATs,not as heavily-armored as the typical 'infantry' BATs,but are a lot quicker and used for missions and attacks when speed is needed over brute strength and numbers.

Yeah I think its the baroness that runied it for me. I was in a hurry when I picked them up this morning and didnt look that closely at it. Then later I saw how bad a paint job she has. Is like they just dripped red paint on her chest and then let it run. PlayNiceOrDie is right I think its the size of their hands that makes it impossible for them to hold weapons.

I thought we were in trouble too. It's too bad that I haven't even seen wave 2 in person to judge them yet but so far they aren't sounding too good from what I have been hearing from members on these TNI forums. Sorry to hear about that JayC, I hope the next wave will be better.

Oh and I thought we were in trouble too. @loll@

I've got a full set of these plus an extra BAT, and I've not had any QC problems. Personally I like the BAT a lot, hes sleeker and smaller than the 3.2 BAT, has a ton of firepower and generally looks like a next generation of the same technolgy.

The Baroness's hands are a bit small, though mine doesn't seem to have problems holding the Iron Grenadier SMG she came with, and generally shes miles better than the wave 3 version. Beach Head and Destro are both great, their heads are a bit small, but not fatally so IMO.

Alpine: I can see where they were trying to go with the figure, though I don't think its the way I would have done it, Both Him and Hard Drive would have been helped a lot by different colour selection.

Nerotoxin and Razortrooper are just repaints, and not greatly interesting ones

From your lips to God's ears JayC my friend. It's no question that Hasbro has made some bone-headed mistakes, but what it frustrating is that they can't even balance their good decisions with their bad ones.

The fact that the representative of an official toy magazine/website is aware of some the enormous mistakes Hasbro has made with G.I. Joe gives me hope, because Hasbro won't always listen to the fans but they'll immediatly stand to attention when they hear bad press about their products.

I just wish for every step forward they take they didn't immediatly take two steps backward. For instance, when I saw the first painted prototype of the new VvV Viper I bought 53 of them when they first became available because I was so floored by the design and the color choices. But there isn't a single figure in Wave 2 that I'm even lukewarm towards.

Plus there's the fact that Hasbro is still packaging their figures in two packs making it impossible for the troop builders. The new Viper was slamming but the new Alley-Viper was a catastrophe.

Not to mention the fact that a lot of the new Cobra vehicle designs (HISS IV, FANG III, Venom Cycle, Crimson Command Copter, Night Adder, Pulverizer) have been so out there they've bordered on the ridiculous. And I won't even go into detail the botched job they did with the reissue of the Rattler.

And besides the new version of the Cobra Eel coming later this year I doubt there's going to be another G.I. Joe figure I'm going to be investing in for the rest of 2004. I'm hopping that the upcoming TRU Cobra Urban set and Ninja sets will follow in the vein of the Python Patrol and Infantry Squads that they will be loaded with mostly if nothing but Cobra troop builders but again with Hasbro '1 victory/5 loses' reputation I'm worried that G.I. Joe will likely be joining He-Man as another one of those 80's icons that tried for a 21'st Century revival but fizzled out fast.

I liked the Barroness fig (although I too am not that hard to please). I found them at TRU so like JayC said u might want to try there. I already have the Barroness/Harddrive and I think the only other pack I will be getting is the Razor Trooper/Neurotoxin to army build a little. Overall I am disappointed with Wave 2 but I did like Baroness.

I think the Baroness had potential, but the tiny tiny head is hard to paint right. Mine had messed-up lipstick on both Baroness's I bought, so I had to correct them with my own paint. Then there's her shoulders. If Hasbro is hell-bent on saving that penny-per-figure by using plastic rivets, they could at least use them the way BBI does with their 3-3/4" figures, which don't have the jumbo shoulders. Her emblem is stupid. It looks like they didn't decide between a sculpted emblem or a painted-on one, so they partially sculpted it, then painted it to try to add details, and did a poor job at both. Her hair, like all Joes with hair longer than a buzz-cut, needlessly sticks out from behind as if being held out by some invisible shoulder pads.

Overall it's still better than the S&M secretary Baroness that Hasbro released with the JvC line.

I finally found part of VvV wave 2 at TRU as well, they

didn't have the Baroness 2pack. I picked the best packs I

could, trying to limit the paint app short comings and was still

pretty disappointed. The plastic used for the lower arms and

lower legs seems to be softer than previous versions, this makes

holding weapons almost impossible for some of the figures namely

Alpine and Swamp Rat. Since I play with my toys this causes a

big problem; what good is a soldier that can't hold his weapon

but for 2 seconds? On a positive note, Swamp Rat's knife sheaths

hold his knives really well; I guess that’s some consolation.

I must be totally different. I actually believe wave 1 of VvV was more disappointing than Wave 2. Wave 2 is in my top 5 as best waves since 2002. I also realize Kamakura ruined this wave for lots of people. Storm Shadow ruined(if you can call it that, I still like most of the wave) Wave 1 for me and it ranks as my worst figure ever.

I've not seen any of the paint troubles you guys find. I bought mine from Master Collector but recently found them at my local Kmart. I've yet to see any that had paint troubles. Beach Head's eyes are a little close together on mine but he's surely not cross-eyed like you mentioned.

In fact, I've never found paint problems on my figures. Going back to Wave 1 of JVC, never any at all. Am I just lucky or are you guys just that unlucky?

While I'm here, I would like to mention that I've found a new variation. I picked up a second Scalpel figure to have around my house here and found that he has no scar over his right eye. I looked extremely close and couldn't find one. The first one I have which I bought in late 2002 has it clearly defined. Has anyone else seen this variation?

I don't mind Wave 2 all that much. Kamakura notwithstanding, the rest are ok. Destro is kind of a stiff with tiny feet and the BAT has bicycle shorts and slippers on, but other than that, they're alright. My Baroness looks pretty good and yeah, she holds the IG weapon well. Alpine is, well, a member of the Village People, but a little custom magic and he's pretty cool. Making the cap into a bandana and different paint colors and he's right as rain. I'm sorry, JayC, that this wave doesn't do it for you. I'm not as happy with it as I have been with previous waves (VvV was unimpressive!). Here's hoping the next few waves redeem themselves!

I stated this before, but I am sure you didn't notice it because the topic was locked soon afterwards, or it died, I cannot remember. Any who, If you look back through each line of G.I Joe figures, the first few waves always are pretty poor and VvsV has had the best start of all in my opinion with the exception, but back to my point, Look at the original wave of RAH, they all had no battle grip (I think that is the name of the swivel arms.) they all looked the same with the possible exception Scarlett and Snake Eyes, and all the molds were soft (Not in terms of plastic, but in terms of details.) then look at Wave 1 of JvsC all the way up to Wave 3, most of them were pretty bad, Spytroops had a lot of a good figures but it also had a quite a few stinkers in the three waves it had.

In my opinion, Wave 3 looks to be a real improvement, between Cobra Coil and Electric Eel, it shows the first use of AA that isn't pointless and in the case of the Eel, it is the first time, it will not affect artulation and really make the figure better. The new Dusty will be the best version of him yet and I could go on and on, but I won't bore you any more.

He-Man had like three waves that was filled with the likes of Wild West He-Man that nobody could find and then it went to Snake fighters and it had a single wave of that, that no one could find and then it died. That's a total of Four Waves. This is the Eleventh Wave of the G.I Joe revival.

I don't that is something that you have to worry about and I didn't even mention the fact that G.I Joe is very popular nowadays, it is selling great and there hasn't been figure that is short packed, female or not.

I only bought 2 of the BATs/Beachhead and a Destro/Kamakura. I used the Destro to make a Cobra Tank commander, with a CORPs head and different feet. Kamakura is in the box of toys for my son when he gets older. I did a little repainting of the BAT and made him look pretty cool, I did leave his purple shorts. Beachhead is lame, and will probably use him for some LBC. I have no use for any of the other figures from this wave.

I think this is one of the worst waves to date, and hope it starts turning around, or my cash will go towards spy troop army builders on ebay.
