Why We Are Going To Keep Seeing Bats

There are currently nine different variations of BATs. And I don't know if you guys remember there was a post here or at Toy Ads where a Hasbro worker was hinting that the next Joe theme might be all about BATs. So the question is brought up, why so many friggin BATs? I think I know why they continue to pump out BATs.

Cobra Vipers and Infantrymen are humans, real people. We see Joes shootin up vipers and such and we don't think of the vipers as human but more as products of evil so its okay. But to people not thinking of them as evil products, it probably looks like ruthless man slaugter. Whereas BATs are just exagerrated computers and seeing them being mowed down, we know there is no pain or sadness. So I think thats why Hasbro puts out tons of BATs. That also may be why BATS were created in the first place.

This is what happens when you are stuck listening to an indepth analysis of the yellow car in the Great Gatsby for an hour. <_<

Wait a second... it wasn't until this new line that we got 7 different bats.... before the line started we only had the 86 and 91 bat. Bats are needed because you can't blow up a Cobra Viper the way you would a Bat. BATS to me personally are awesome but I wouldn't mind if they went back to the way things used to be (blue and red lazers flying around all over the place with no one being hit then they get up close and punch each other out.)

Actually, there are 12 B.A.T. versions (if you include the Star Brigade version and Over Kill).

As far as models though, there are only 6 (version 1, version 2, version 3, version 4, B.A.A.T., Overkill).

I like the idea of the B.A.T. because they ARE machines. They could be done interchangeably, more than just the hands. B.A.T.s with tank treads instead of legs or animal-shaped B.A.T.s.

I don't think we have really seen too many BATs. Sure the multipack, and BAT APC make it seem that way, but really, only one new BAT per line right now. Also a good size squad of BATs looks pretty cool storming the deck of the FLAGG!!!

Well, seeing as how human Cobras can be trained in certain specialties, it would make sense that there would be BAT's with specialized programming. Especially since hard drives that are mass produced to their extent can only hold so much data.

I could justify different types of BATs with specialty grades. Take that v3 BAT without the arm weapons for example. Those could be used for driving vehicles like the recent Transport. The v4 can be more for berserkers, with that sword and huge guns. The gold BATs can be unit leaders and can be controlled via uplink by satellite. The v4's are more dexterous and are used for labor and hazardous materials.

The upcoming 3V BAT can be... Er... Cobra's Extreme Bicycle Patrol, if those goofy ass shorts are any indica. I dunno. Looking at that thing makes my head hurt.

But you get the point. Sure Hasbro isnt putting THAT much thought into it, but coming up with devisions for them is part of the fun.

It makes sense from a cartoon standpoint. Note Samurai Jack, everything that is destroyed is robotic. If a mainstream cartoon were to be produced, it would allow the Joes to actually hit and "kill" Cobra troops without actually killing anyone.

That, and robots are cool.

Why not have more BATS? AND I don't agree with NC saying bats are the worst army builder. You're just jealous because you dont have any. @smilepunch@

BATs are terrific army builders. I have about 175 BATs and I use them very much for my dioramas. I am very glad to see the BATs finally having a role in the joe universe besides being target practice. Why not have the BATs overthrow Cobra and have Overkill become the new leader of the MACHINE army. That is my theme for the diorama and it makes a perfect story for the joe universe. Just think of it as a GIJOE version of Terminator: Rise of the Machines. @firedevil@

MAKE MORE BATS! @firedevil@
