I Just Played Transformers Aramda On Ps2

My local Game store where I work (Hemel, UK) had a PS2 booth with a demo of the new Transformers from Atari. I managed to get 45 mins play out of my lunch break and can say that it is truly awesome.

The demo allows play on the Amazon level with Hotshot. You start with just a blaster and missile launcher. The controls are a little confusing to start but only at the start - they feel so intuitive once you get into it.

The graphics as you've seen in the clips etc are among the best I've seen, the lighting effects, the zooming in is seamless, the transformation is cool, accompanied by the famous sound...

The enemies are easy at the start (hence first level) but the AI is very good, if you fire a shot they pick up where you are and approach you, hiding behind rocks and trees and circle you if there is enough of them, all the whole you can see and hear ships overhead that drop off reinforcements.

Driving in car mode is also very good. Hot shot is very quick and can destroy enemies by driving into them at speed, although this also damages him.

The first part of the level involves retrieving a minicon from inside the Amazon ruins, which is guarded by the clones while the decepticons arrive (Optimus relays instructions all the time - a well implemented touch). In the 45 mins I managed to die twice before retrieving the minicon. He gives you heat vision (actually the minicon scans energy signatures and relays them into Hot Shots optical sensors, according to the info on the minicon. TBH I didn't recognise the 'con from any seen so far. The heat vision is quite excellent, you assign it to a shoulder button and when activated, all energy sources within range are shown. Very handy indeed at picking off enemies

Overall its ALOT better than I was expecting, great graphics, great enemy AI and a (so-far) well implemented minicon attachment system

OK, so I only played for 45 mins on one level, but you can sense what a good game it is...wow I have waffled on. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know about the game from a TF fan perspective, and it is Ace. Can’t wait for the full game. :)

sounds like a good game. I'll still rent it though. I don't want to get stuck paying 50 bucks for a 9.99 game.

@loll@ @loll@ I'll probably do that first to see whether I like it or not before making that commitment.

I wish i could do that as well, but for some strange reason many rentals don't carry games.
